    Applications for the Cushwa Center's five research funding programs are due December 31, 2018.  Grants and awards fund research in repositories at the University of Notre Dame and beyond.  Research Travel Grants assist scholars visiting the Notre Dame Archives and Hesburgh Libraries.  Peter R. D'Agostino Research Travel Grants support research in Roman archives for projects on U.S. Catholic history.  Mother Theodore Guerin Research Travel Grants support research focused on Catholic women in modern history.  Hesburgh Research Travel Grants support projects using the Theodore M. Hesburgh Papers and related collections at the Notre Dame Archives.  Hibernian Research Awards provide travel funds for the scholarly study of Irish and Irish American history.

ARIT NEH Fellowships for Research in Turkey - 0 views

    The American Research Institute in Turkey takes pleasure in inviting applications for one to three advanced long-term fellowships for research in Turkey made possible by support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The fields of study cover all periods of history in the general range of the humanities and include humanistically oriented aspects of the social sciences, prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics, as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history. The fellowships tenures range from four to twelve continuous months during 2018-2019. Stipends of $4,200 per month are awarded on the basis of individual proposals. Scholars who have completed their formal training by the application deadline and plan to carry out research in Turkey for four months or longer may apply. They may be U.S. citizens or three-year residents of the U.S. Please consult ARIT U.S. office for questions of eligibility. Advanced scholars may also apply for ARIT Fellowships in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Up to 500 communities across the nation will receive a packaged set of NEH-funded films on Civil Rights history, accompanied by programming resources to guide public conversations about the changing meanings of freedom and equality in U.S. history. NOTE: Each participating site will receive an award of up to $1,200 to support public programming exploring the themes of the Created Equal project. The films featured in the set are The Abolitionists, Slavery by Another Name, The Loving Story, and Freedom Riders. Applications are open to museums and historical societies; humanities councils; public, academic, and community college libraries; and nonprofit community organizations.

    The student will learn about developing a public program. The series they will be focusing on celebrates the legacy of Afro-Latinos in the United States. For example, Arturo Schomburg, a black Puerto Rican bibliophile who African-American scholars like Carter G. Woodson, The Father of African-American History, benefitted from his collection of Pan-African scholarly works. Summer 2013 - $6,000/400 hours {10-20 weeks}. We are looking for students (undergraduate or graduate) who are enrolled in a degree seeking program. Recent graduates (no earlier than January 15, 2013) are eligible to apply. *Goldman Sachs Multicultural Junior Fellows program targets applicants who are part of a U.S. minority group (i.e. African-American, Latino-American, Asian Pacific Islander-American, Native American). Applicants should have a background in African-American Studies, Latino Studies, American Studies, History or something closely related. They should be able demonstrate knowledge of Pan-African and or Pan-Latino history and culture or something closely related. Public program experience is highly regarded.

BLM-CO Archaeology and Cultural Resources Study Project, Tres Rios Field Office - 0 views

    Archaeological resources belong to all Americans and provide the history and context of our society. A primary goal of the BLM cultural resource program is to work in the public's interest so that archaeological knowledge may be shared and learned. The objective of this agreement is to share an appreciation for American history and culture, through a variety of strategies, such as through social media platforms, in order to increase public awareness, knowledge and support for historic preservation, stewardship, and interpretation of the nation's cultural and historical heritage. The Mesa Verde Escarpment is located on Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) lands and is immediately adjacent to the iconic Mesa Verde National Park and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site. Limited past fieldwork in this region has revealed highly significant sites that are critical to understanding the prehistoric Ancestral Puebloan lifeways across the Mesa Verde cultural landscape. The Mesa Verde Escarpment has a rich archaeological record spanning over 10,000 years and possesses the densest concentration of Ancestral Puebloan habitation sites on public lands, and retains areas of traditional and scared values to over 27 Native American tribes found in the region today. The temporal span and distribution of sites indicate the area was consistently inhabited from Basketmaker III period through Pueblo III (A.D. 600-1,300). More specifically, the Tres Rios Field Office (TRFO) seeks a partner for the purpose of developing and implementing cultural resource projects to amplify public education and outreach efforts, with a specific emphasis on the Mesa Verde Escarpment region.

    Building mutual understanding is a cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy abroad. Through the explanation and presentation of U.S policies, values, culture and history, U.S. embassies and consulates abroad seek to tell America's story. To that end, the U.S. Mission to China (Embassy Beijing and Consulates General Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenyang, and Wuhan) seeks to support activities that, whether through existing partnerships between eligible U.S. institutions and their Chinese counterparts or through new ties, explain American foreign policy, values and culture to the people of China. Such programming will enhance and broaden the outreach of the U.S. Mission in China. The U.S. Embassy in Beijing seeks to ensure that programming is representative of the depth and breadth of U.S. foreign policy, history values and culture. The U.S.-China relationship is one of the United States' most important bilateral relationships and much work remains to enable mutual understanding between the peoples of the two nations. Proposals should increase overall understanding of U.S. policy, society, and values by the people of China.

    "The Public Humanities Projects program supports projects that bring the ideas and insights of the humanities to life for general audiences through in-person programming.  Projects must engage humanities scholarship to analyze significant themes in disciplines such as history, literature, ethics, and art history. Public Humanities Projects supports projects in three program categories (Exhibitions, Historic Places, and Humanities Discussions), and at two funding levels (Planning and Implementation). Regardless of proposed activity, NEH encourages applicants to explore humanities ideas through multiple formats.  Proposed projects may include complementary components: for example, a museum exhibition might be accompanied by a website or mobile app. Small and mid-sized organizations are especially encouraged to apply.  We likewise welcome humanities projects tailored to particular groups, such as families, youth (including K-12 students in informal educational settings), underserved communities, and veterans.     Indiana University's African Studies Program invites applications for a short-term residency to conduct research in IU's Libraries/African Studies Collections. Indiana University's African Studies Collection ranks among the top tier of such collections in the U.S. It comprises more than 150,000 volumes of monographs and over 700 serial subscriptions as well as materials in other formats (e.g. posters, slides, film/video, audio tapes, etc). The focus of the collection is on the humanities and social sciences, supporting a wide range of students and faculty in such departments as history, anthropology, fine arts, theatre & drama, literature, folklore, ethnomusicology, communication and culture, linguistics, religious studies, education, political science, business, economics, journalism, and applied health science. This residency is intended for faculty members at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or at other U.S. colleges / universities with limited Africa collections, to conduct research in Indiana University's libraries and special collections in support of curriculum development or publications. The successful applicant will receive an award that covers domestic travel, accommodations in Bloomington, and a modest per diem for up to two weeks of research. The award will cover expenses up to a maximum of $2,000 and must be used before August 01, 2014. The recipient is expected to reside in Bloomington during the period of her/his award.

AHAA CAA Travel Grant - 0 views

    The Association of Historians of American Art (AHAA) offers two grants of $500 each to defray College Art Association conference expenses, including transportation, housing, and registration fees, for presenting members. The first grant is for an ABD graduate student in American art history who is currently enrolled in a graduate program and will travel to CAA's annual conference to appear on the meeting program. The second grant is to support a contingent faculty member or museum staff person whose work engages with the art of the United States, does not have access to travel funds from their institution of employment, and will travel to CAA's annual conference to appear on the meeting program. Applications for Travel Grants are due by December 1 and must include a short cv and letter of interest. The letter should indicate which award is being applied for - Professional or Graduate Student - and must include the applicant's paper and session title as they appear on the CAA program. For the Professional award, applicants should also address their institutional affiliation. The two winners of the AHAA Travel Grant must be members of AHAA at the time of their application. All qualified candidates will be entered into a lottery and the winners selected at random. Applicants will be notified via email by December 15.
