The Russell Sage Foundation/Carnegie Corporation Initiative on Immigration and Immigrant Integration seeks to support innovative research on the effects of race, citizenship, legal status and politics, political culture and public policy on outcomes for immigrants and for the native-born of different racial and ethnic groups and generations. This initiative falls under RSF's Race, Ethnicity, and Immigration Program and represents a special area of interest within the core program, which continues to encourage proposals on a broader set of issues. We are especially interested in novel uses of under-utilized data and the development of new methods for analyzing these data. Proposals to conduct laboratory or field experiments, in-depth qualitative interviews, and ethnographies are also encouraged. Smaller projects might include exploratory fieldwork, a pilot study, or the analysis of existing data. RSF encourages methodological variety and inter-disciplinary collaboration. Proposals for comparative, cross-national work will be considered only if they have strong implications for U.S.-centered issues.

The purpose of this FOA is to support investigator-initiated R21 applications that will inform our understanding of the typical and atypical patterns of language and literacy development of dual language learners (DLLs) in the United States. Applicants are encouraged to take advantage of advances in the language sciences and related fields to identify and clarify specific cognitive, linguistic, neurobiological, and sociocultural factors associated with normal and impaired language and literacy acquisition in young DLL populations.

The Native Arts and Cultures Foundation has issued a call for applications to established American Indian and Alaska Native artists to mentor an emerging American Indian and Alaska Native artist apprentice through its for its NACF Mentor Artist Fellowship program. Through the program, mentors will develop lesson plans intended to increase their apprentice's skill level, and provide an experience of intergenerational exchange of cultural knowledge within the apprentice's traditional arts or contemporary visual arts practice. To assist in developing lesson plans, awarded mentors and their apprentices are required to attend a training session before the mentorship begins. The training date will be announced upon notification of the awards. The fellowship provides a monetary award of $30,000 total - $20,000 for the mentor, $5,000 for the joint art project, and $5,000 for the apprentice's expenses.

As a national network, BMe Community places a spotlight on the many ways that inspirational black men bring out the best in their cities so that these cities present a more attractive image as well. Since 2012, BMe has awarded more $2 million to men who are deeply committed to the well-being of others and are making a substantial positive impact on communities across the country.

The Unitarian Universalist Association is accepting proposals from non-Unitarian Universalist groups in the U.S. and Canada for community organizing campaigns aimed at creating systemic change in the economic, social, and political structures that affect the lives of those who have been excluded from resources, power, and the right to determination.

Supported by the Elaine Schlosser Lewis Fund, the program annually provides an award of $15,000 to a child and adolescent psychiatry resident or junior faculty who has an interest in beginning a career in child and adolescent mental health research. The program is designed to support a young investigator at a critical stage of his/her development and encourage a future career in child and adolescent psychiatry research.

The Centers of Research Excellence in Science and Technology (CREST) program provides support to enhance the research capabilities of minority-serving institutions (MSI) through the establishment of centers that effectively integrate education and research. CREST promotes the development of new knowledge, enhancements of the research productivity of individual faculty, and an expanded presence of students historically underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and  mathematics (STEM) disciplines. HBCU-RISE awards specifically target HBCUs to support the expansion of institutional research capacity as well as the production of doctoral students, especially those from groups underrepresented in STEM,  at those institutions.

The American Film Showcase (AFS) is the State Department's flagship film exchange program and is implemented by the University of Southern California's (USC) School of Cinematic Arts. AFS supports the exchange of U.S. films, filmmakers, and film experts in support of foreign policy priorities. The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy South Africa announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to support the 2020 American Film Showcase in South Africa, with a specific focus on the use of documentary film for conveying human rights messages. Concept notes are requested from organizations that have the necessary capacity, experience, and knowledge to support the implementation of the AFS 2020 program in South Africa. Logistical and financial management capabilities, linkages with existing film events and programs, and a focus on innovative approaches will be critical components of a successful proposal. AFS brings award-winning contemporary American documentaries, independent films, and filmmaking know-how to audiences around the world, offering a view of American society and culture as seen by independent filmmakers. Funded by a grant from the State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and produced by the USC School of Cinematic Arts (SCA), the Showcase highlights the value of film in fostering understanding and cooperation, dialogue, and debate. AFS will include a visit from American documentary filmmakers to engage with local audiences, as well as a film collection for use in related activities. A U.S. government staff member must be present at all screenings of films provided through AFS, and Embassy officials will guide the selection of films for the activities implemented through this project.

The Oberlin College Archives established the Frederick B. Artz Summer Research Grants Program in 1990. This research program, which is made possible by a grant from the Oberlin Historical and Improvement Organization, is intended to encourage and facilitate the publication of scholarly, humanistic studies based on archival and special collections sources at Oberlin College, with special emphasis on the history of the institution, Oberlin Community and liberal arts education. Studies of a local nature involving the resources of both archival and special collections departments are especially encouraged. 

Michigan State University Libraries invites applications for research grants for the summer of 2020. The grants are intended to help scholars who live more than 100 miles from East Lansing whose research would benefit from on-site access to the rich primary source collections housed in MSU Libraries' Special Collections. The 2020 grants are made possible through the generous support of Char Mollison and MSU Libraries Special Collections Endowment. Five grants of $3,000 will be awarded based on the overall promise of the research project and the significance of MSU's Special Collections to the work. The on-site research period must run for at least one week between May 1 and September 30 of the year awarded. Research strengths of MSU Special Collections are deep and varied, including an outstanding comic art collection; American radicalism on the extreme right and left; extensive holdings on Latino and Chicano activism and artists; popular culture; zines, Africana; exceptional rare book holdings in cookery, the history of science, veterinary medicine, Italian unification, conduct books; one of the country's oldest LGBTQ+ collections; a peerless collection documenting the contemporary men's movements; and the papers of numerous Michigan writers including Richard Ford, and Diane Wakoski. The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) invites civil society organizations (CSOs) to submit applications for projects that provide LGBTI individuals and communities with the tools to prevent, mitigate and recover from violence and crackdowns on fundamental freedoms, as well as programs that work to eliminate laws which criminalize LGBTI status and/or conduct.

CAREER:The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. Activities pursued by early-career faculty should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research. NSF encourages submission of CAREER proposals from early-career faculty at all CAREER-eligible organizations and especially encourages women, members of underrepresented minority groups, and persons with disabilities to apply. PECASE: Each year NSF selects nominees for the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) from among the most meritorious recent CAREER awardees. Selection for this award is based on two important criteria: 1) innovative research at the frontiers of science and technology that is relevant to the mission of NSF, and 2) community service demonstrated through scientific leadership, education, or community outreach. These awards foster innovative developments in science and technology, increase awareness of careers in science and engineering, give recognition to the scientific missions of the participating agencies, enhance connections between fundamental research and national goals, and highlight the importance of science and technology for the Nation's future. Individuals cannot apply for PECASE. These awards are initiated by the participating federal agencies. At NSF, up to twenty nominees for this award are selected each year from among the PECASE-eligible CAREER awardees most likely to become the leaders of academic research and education in the twenty-first century. The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy makes the final selection and announcement of the awardees.

An organization that applies to the Challenge America category, may not submit another application to the Grants for Arts Projects category. You may apply to other National Endowment for the Arts funding opportunities, including Our Town, in addition to Challenge America. In each case, the request must be for a distinctly different project or a distinctly different phase of the same project, with a different period of performance and costs. The Arts Endowment's support of a project may start on or after January 1, 2021. Grants awarded under these guidelines generally may cover a period of performance of up to two years. An organization that has received Challenge America grants in FY 2018, 2019, and 2020 may not apply for a Challenge America grant under these FY 2021 guidelines. That organization may apply for FY 2021 support under other National Endowment for the Arts funding opportunities including Grants for Arts Projects. Grant Program Description The Challenge America category offers support primarily to small and mid-sized organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations -- those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability. Age alone (e.g., youth, seniors) does not qualify a group as underserved; at least one of the underserved characteristics noted above also must be present. Provide details about the underserved audience you select in your application using relevant statistics and anecdotal information. Proposals should detail the efforts made to reach the identified underserved population. Grants are available for professional arts programming and for projects that emphasize the potential of the arts in community development

Founded in 1951, the Weingart Foundation seeks to achieve inclusion and opportunity for all Southern Californians, especially those who have historically been excluded due to their race, income level, gender, religion, immigration status, disability, age, sexual orientation, or zip code. To help strengthen this regional network of next-generation social change leaders in Southern California, the foundation is investing in a pilot of the John W. Mack Movement Building Fellows program, which is named after the late civic leader who began his lifelong career as a movement leader as student activist during the civil rights movement. Through the program, twelve emerging leaders with a deep commitment to social justice and racial equality will receive opportunities to develop their adaptive leadership skills, hone their leadership stance, improve their ability to develop more effective campaign strategies, and better access resources that support them as leaders of movement building organizations.
