The Eos Foundation is a private philanthropic foundation committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by investing in children's futures. It seeks an equitable and just society where the basic human needs of all individuals are met, and where children grow up well-nourished and healthy and have opportunities for high-quality education and the tools to achieve economic self-sufficiency. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications from Massachusetts schools/districts and charter public schools for its After the Bell (ATB), Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) program, which aims to combat childhood hunger and improve student learning.  ATB BIC is proven to increase access in and participation in school breakfast. Benefits of the program include lower absentee and tardy rates, fewer morning nurses visits and behavioral problems, and higher academic achievement. The majority of Massachusetts schools operating ATB BIC maintain 80 percent or more participation rates, drawing down USDA reimbursements that sustain the program beyond grants from private funders like Eos.  Through the program, Eos provides one-time grants of up to $10,000 to eligible Massachusetts schools/districts and charter public schools interested in making breakfast part of their school day by launching or expanding ATB BIC programming. Grant amounts are based on school enrollment: 1) $5,000 for schools with up to 300 students; 2) $7,500 for schools with between 301 and 600 students; and $10,000 for schools with more than 601 students. The Substance Abuse andMental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance AbuseTreatment (CSAT), isaccepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2019 Provider's Clinical SupportSystem - Universities (Short Title: PCSS-Universities) grants. The purpose of this program is toexpand/enhance access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT) services forpersons with an opioid use disorder (OUD) seeking or receiving MAT throughensuring the education and training of students in the medical, physicianassistant and nurse practitioner fields. This program's focus is to ensure students fulfill the trainingrequirements needed to obtain a DATA waiver to prescribe MAT in office-basedsettings. The desired outcomes include: 1) an increase in the number of individuals completing the trainingrequirements for the DATA waiver, 2) an increase the number of individuals witha DATA waiver, and 3) an ultimate increase in those prescribing.

The association advances its work by raising public awareness and fostering social acceptance; working to advance scientific understanding, treatment options, and care; educating professionals to better serve the needs of children, adults, and families challenged by Tourette and tic disorders; advocating for public policies and services that promote positive school, work, and social environments; providing help, hope, and a supportive community across the nation; and empowering its community to deal with the complexities of this spectrum of disorders. To that end, grants of up to $150,000 over two years will be awarded for basic and clinical studies on all aspects of Tourette syndrome. To be eligible, investigators are required to have an advanced degree such as a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent or be allied professionals with advanced degrees such as R.N.s, Drs. of O.T., social workers, and related fields. Investigators from nonprofit and for-profit organizations can apply.

The competitive research program emphasizes on maximizing the impact of these research efforts on the overall safety, health, productivity and competitiveness of Ohio's work force.  The program is an open competition for researchers in Ohio's not-for-profit higher education institutions and research organizations. The program provides funding for research projects up to $250,000 per project. The duration of each research project is limited to 12 to 24 months. The deadline for proposal submission is 5 p.m. EST on Jan. 25, 2019.

The primary goal of this Institutional Research Training Grant is to provide a short-term training for medical students to obtain necessary aging research experiences and technical expertise and skills early during their education to encourages them to pursue career in research.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) proposes to allocate funds to implement Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) PS18-1807, “Promoting Adolescent Health through School-Based HIV/STD Prevention.” The project period will be 5 years, with a 12-month budget period and an anticipated award date of August 1, 2018. This NOFO will provide support for education agencies and NGOs to help school districts and schools develop and implement sustainable program activities to: 1) Reduce HIV infection and other STDs among adolescents; and 2) Reduce disparities in risk for HIV infection and other STD infection. Throughout the 5-year cooperative agreement, awardees will conduct activities demonstrated to improve the health of middle school and high school students by collection and use of quality surveillance data, the implementation of effective prevention practices, and demonstration and evaluation of innovative strategies within their jurisdictions.

The purpose of this program is to make grants to the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Territories to assist them in operating their own state educational loan repayment programs for primary care providers working in HPSAs within their state. SLRP supports loan repayment awards to health care providers in exchange for service in underserved communities. SLRP recipients are afforded the flexibility to select the disciplines and HPSA sites that meet their unique workforce needs. To that end, HRSA is encouraging SLRP applicants to consider how SLRP funds might be used to support the clinical priorities of addressing opioid abuse and mental health conditions. Please note, this NOFO expands the disciplines supported by SLRP to include Masters-level, licensed alcohol and substance abuse counselors.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has released a Request for Proposals for its 2018 Future of Nursing Scholars program, an annual program designed to develop the next generation of PhD-prepared nurse leaders committed to long-term careers that advance science and discovery, strengthen nursing education, and bring transformational change to nursing and health care.

The TriService Nursing Research Program (TSNRP) was founded in 1992 and supports rigorous scientific research studies and evidence-based practice (EBP) projects in the field of military nursing. TSNRP is located within the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) which is authorized by 10 USC 2113(g)(1)(A) to make grants to any nonprofit entity for the purpose of carrying out cooperative enterprises in medical research, medical consultation, and medical education.

The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is seeking applications from qualified organizations for Injury Control Research Center (ICRC) grants. These centers will conduct high quality research and help translate scientific discoveries into practice for the prevention and control of fatal and nonfatal injuries and violence that support NCIPC’s priorities and mission. ICRCs are expected to blend Outreach, Training and Education, and Research activities into a program to reduce the number, risk, and public health impact of injury and violence in the U.S. The over-arching goals for the NCIPC ICRC program are to: Build the scientific base for the prevention and control of fatal and nonfatal injuries and violence. Integrate, in the context of a national program, professionals from a wide spectrum of disciplines of epidemiology, behavioral and social sciences, medicine, biostatistics, public health, health economics, law, criminal justice, and engineering to perform research and provided technical expertise in order to prevent and control injuries and/or violence more effectively. Encourage investigators to propose research that involves intervention development or translation of effective programs among individuals, organizations, or communities. Provide technical assistance to injury and/or violence prevention and control programs in their geographic region, including other researchers; universities; medical institutions; community groups; state and local government agencies, public health agencies; and policy makers. Act as sources of injury and/or violence prevention and control information for their constituents and stakeholders at the local, state, tribal, national, and global levels.

In exchange for full-time, post-graduation employment as nurse faculty, the program authorizes cancelation of up to 85 percent of any such loan (plus interest thereon).

Prevention Education for Youth Best Practices in Pain Medication Use and Patient Engagement: Community-Level Response to the Opioid Crisis: The Cardinal Health Foundation has engaged content specialists to provide technical assistance to grantees and to create learning communities. We also anticipate convening grantees within the next 12 months for further learning.

Specifically this program aims to strengthen the public health workforce through tailored training and technical assistance involving collaborative, community-based projects. Training curricula will provide skill-based, interactive instruction and quality education using multiple modalities (i.e., synchronous, asynchronous, distance-based, bi-directional video), underscoring the following eight cross-cutting core public health competency domains in the primary areas of (1) systems thinking, (2) change management, and (3) persuasive communication; and secondary areas of (4) data analytics, (5) problem solving, (6) training a "health work force [sic] that reflects and responds to the cultural diversity of populations served" as supported by section 766(b)(1),[1] (7) resource management, and (8) policy engagement. Each PHTC must develop trainings in the three primary areas and may develop trainings in the secondary areas and beyond based on the results from local health needs assessments.

The purpose of the Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) program is to stimulate research in educational institutions that provide baccalaureate or advanced degrees for a significant number of the Nation's research scientists, but that have not been major recipients of NIH support. AREA grants create opportunities for scientists and institutions otherwise unlikely to participate extensively in NIH research programs to contribute to the Nation's biomedical and behavioral research effort. AREA grants are intended to support small-scale research projects proposed by faculty members of eligible, domestic institutions, to expose undergraduate and/or graduate students to meritorious research projects, and to strengthen the research environment of the applicant institution.   

Through the program, the foundation will award grants of up to $5,000 in support of research projects focused on school nurses' impact on health disparities, students with chronic health conditions, and student safety; innovative models of school nursing practice; cost-benefit analyses of school nursing; and/or the impact of school nurse activities on student health and education outcomes.

The purpose of this Indian Health Service (IHS) cooperative agreement is to recruit, retain, graduate and increase the number of registered nurses, certified nurse midwives and nurse practitioners who deliver health care services to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities. The primary objectives of this cooperative agreement grant award are to: (1) recruit and train AI/AN individuals to be baccalaureate prepared nurses; (2) facilitate associate degree registered nurses becoming baccalaureate prepared registered nurses; (3) provide a program that prepares practicing registered nurses for advanced nursing education; (4) provide a program that encourages registered nurses and advanced practice nurses to provide or continue to provide, health care services to AI/AN communities; and (5) provide scholarships to AI/AN individuals that will cover tuition, books, fees, room and board, stipend for living expenses, or other expenses incurred in connection with baccalaureate level nursing or advanced practice nursing programs. This notice of funding opportunity solicits applications that provide a preference to AI/AN students and a curriculum with a rural health and public health focus.

Established in 1986, the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association represents the specialty of palliative nursing and provides support for the profession through education programs, research initiatives, and advocacy. In support of this mission, the association is accepting applications for its HPNF Certification Research Grant. Studies done in the acute-care setting suggest that care environments with a higher proportion of certified nurses have better patient outcomes. Replicating this research in the hospice or palliative care environment has potential to advance the understanding of the value of palliative nursing certification. Through the program, a single grant of up to $15,000 will be awarded to an exploratory, pilot, or feasibility study with the potential to lead to a larger-scale project that can help build a better understanding of the impact of palliative nursing certification on patient outcomes.

Through this RFP it is our intent to support patient-focused programs that help patients and providers address the heightened medical and educational needs of patients with PI during this pandemic. Priority will be awarded to projects that leverage the utilization of innovative technology platforms for distant learning to reach the intended audience with a focus on patient outreach, medical support and telework.
