To recognize and support excellence in patient/public education. Nominees for this award will be oncology nurses who are involved in offering creative public or patient education.

Award: A $2,000 award, a plaque, and travel reimbursement to attend the Opening Ceremonies at ONS Congress. The paper will be published in the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing. Purpose: To recognize and support excellence in clinical nursing practice. The lecture is presented at the ONS Annual Congress.

Award: $500 certificate for ONS educational resources/publications donated to the recipient's employer institution. (No cash prize to the individual recipient), a plaque, and travel reimbursement to attend the Opening Ceremonies at ONS Congress. Purpose: To recognize a Registered Nurse (RN) (or equivalent) who has contributed to the improvement of cancer care in a country outside the United States.

The purpose of the NHLBI Career Pathway to Independence in Blood Science Award for Physician Scientists (K99) is to increase and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented, NHLBI supported, independent investigators in blood science. This program is designed to facilitate a timely transition of outstanding blood science researchers with a clinical doctorate degree from mentored research positions to independent, tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions. Applicants who receive this award may submit an application for R00 funding, in the separate funding opportunity associated with this program, to help awardees launch competitive, independent research careers in blood science.

The Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Fellowship for Students at Institutions Without NIH-Funded Institutional Predoctoral Dual-Degree Training Programs (Parent F30) award will support students at institutions without formal NIH-funded institutional predoctoral dual-degree training programs. The purpose of this FOA is to enhance the integrated research and clinical training of promising predoctoral students, who are matriculated in a combined MD/PhD or other dual-doctoral degree training program (e.g., DO/PhD, DDS/PhD, AuD/PhD, DVM/PhD), and who intend careers as physician/clinician-scientists. Applicants must propose an integrated research and clinical training plan and a dissertation research project in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers. The fellowship experience is expected to clearly enhance the individuals' potential to develop into a productive, independent physician/clinician-scientist. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is designed specifically for applicants proposing research that does not involve leading an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or an ancillary study to a clinical trial, but does allow applicants to propose research experience in a clinical trial led by a sponsor or co-sponsor.

Although all of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) use this support mechanism to support career development experiences that lead to research independence, some ICs use the K01 award for individuals who propose to train in a new field or for individuals who have had a hiatus in their research career because of illness or pressing family circumstances. Other ICs offer separate K01 FOAs intended to increase research workforce diversity.

The Idea Development Award promotes ideas that have the potential to yield high-impact findings and new avenues of investigation. This award mechanism supports conceptually innovative research that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries in TSC research and/or improvements in patient care. Research projects should include a well-formulated, testable hypothesis based on strong preliminary data and scientific rationale.

The awarded VBSN applications will:                        ·          Reduce barriers that prevent veterans from transitioning into nursing careers;                        ·          Develop BSN career ladder programs targeted to the unique needs of veterans;                        ·          Explore innovative educational models to award academic credit for prior health care experience/training or other relevant military training;                        ·          Address the growing national demand for BSN prepared Registered Nurses; and                        ·          Improve employment opportunities for veterans through high demand careers training as outlined in the Veterans Opportunity to Work under the VOW to Hire Heroes Act of 2011, www.benefits.va.gov/VOW. For FY13, the Division of Nursing (DN) seeks four-year cooperative agreement applications that propose to develop and implement career ladder programs to increase the enrollment of veterans in BSN programs. 

To recognize an outstanding nephrology nurse researcher.

This announcement solicits applications for the Nursing Workforce Diversity (NWD) Program. NWD grants are awarded to increase nursing education opportunities for individuals who are from disadvantaged backgrounds (including racial and ethnic minorities under-represented among registered nurses) by providing (1) student scholarships or stipends for diploma or associate degree nurses to enter a bridge or degree completion program, and (2) student scholarships or stipends for accelerated nursing degree programs, pre-entry preparation, advanced education preparation, and retention activities. The goals of the NWD program and the purposes of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) are consistent with the statutory authority provided in Title VIII to support projects that assist underrepresented students throughout the educational pipeline to become registered nurses, facilitate diploma or associate degree registered nurses becoming baccalaureate-prepared registered nurses, and prepare practicing registered nurses for advanced nursing education. For FY 2014, the Division of Nursing will solicit three-year grants that support innovative efforts by schools of nursing to recruit, retain, and graduate disadvantaged students.  Disadvantaged populations for this award include: racial and ethnic minorities underrepresented among registered nurses and individuals who are educationally and economically disadvantaged. 

he purpose of the NAT award is to provide traineeship support for licensed registered nurses enrolled as full-time students in an accredited graduate-level nurse anesthesia program.  Traineeship grants are awarded to accredited institutions that educate registered nurses to become nurse anesthetists and gives funding preference and special consideration to schools whose graduates work in areas that address rural, underserved and public health nursing needs. 

The award program, which was created in 2004 to acknowledge nurses who have made a significant contribution to nursing education or practice through the development and/or adoption of a new technology, offers two prizes of $10,000 each, one to a nursing educator or a practicing nurse whose innovation leads to improved nursing education and student outcomes, and the other to a nurse educator or practicing nurse whose innovation leads to improved patient care and patient-care outcomes.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to encourage modular budget R01 grant applications from nurse scientists who are currently or were recently supported by an NIH Career Development (K) award. This opportunity is limited to those K awardee nurse scientists who have not yet earned an R01 equivalent award. Through this opportunity, NINR seeks to enhance the transition of nurse scientists to independent investigator status.

The American Psychological Foundation provides financial support for innovative research and programs that enhance the power of psychology to elevate the human condition and advance human potential, both today and for generations to come. As part of this mission, APF is accepting applications for its APF Trauma Psychology Grant. Through the annual program, a single grant of up to $3,000 will be awarded in support innovative work aimed at alleviating trauma. To be eligible, applicants must be an early-career psychologist (no more than ten years postdoctoral); be affiliated with a nonprofit charitable, educational, or scientific institution, or governmental entity operating exclusively for charitable and educational purposes; have a demonstrated knowledge of trauma and trauma research; have demonstrated competence and capacity to execute the proposed work; and, if human participants are involved, have IRB approval from his/her host institution before funding can be awarded.

The Sofja Kovalevskaja Award allows you to spend five years building up a working group and working on a high-profile, innovative research project of your own choice at a research institution of your own choice in Germany.

Through its Global Medical Grants program, pharmaceutical giant Pfizer supports independent initiatives (research, quality improvement, education) of the global healthcare community to improve patient outcomes in areas of unmet medical need that are aligned with its medical and/or scientific strategies. To that end, Pfizer has issued an RFP for its Managing the IBD Patient initiative. Through the RFP, grants of up to $250,000 will be awarded for the design of educational programs that reach nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who care for patients with irritable bowel disease. Pfizer will award up to four projects through this RFP.

The award program, which was created in 2004 to acknowledge nurses who have made a significant contribution to nursing education or practice through the development and/or adoption of a new technology, offers a $10,000 prize to an educator or practicing health professional whose innovation leads to improved patient care and patient care outcomes, and to an educator or practicing health professional whose innovation leads to improved health professions education and student outcomes. Entries will be judged on the technology's innovativeness and its impact on nursing education or direct patient care. The innovation must be new and be in use for six months or longer prior to submission of application. Applications must be submitted under one of the following categories: 1) Patient Care: improving efficiency of healthcare delivery, preventing/reducing errors, and improving outcomes, 2) Healthcare Education (both didactic and clinical): innovation in curricular delivery methods and improving student competency and learning outcomes.

This award is intended to stimulate the entry of early-career scientists into areas of research related to eczema, as they seek to become an independent research investigator with a commitment to this field. Catalyst Research Grants provide promising early investigators with seed grants to help establish a novel and promising line of eczema research, and gather a preliminary, yet meaningful body of data to carry this area of study forward. Data from Catalyst awards can then be used to seek additional, larger-scale funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or other funding entities to conduct additional investigations.
