The Professional Development for Arts Educators (PDAE) program supports the implementation of high-quality model professional development programs in elementary and secondary education for music, dance, drama, media arts, or visual arts, including folk arts, for educators and other arts instructional staff of kindergarten through grade 12 (K-12) students in high-poverty schools. The purpose of this program is to strengthen standards-based arts education programs and to help ensure that all students meet challenging State academic content standards and challenging State student academic achievement standards in the arts. 

Thanks to generous support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation The Phillips Museum of Art at Franklin & Marshall College invites applications for a one-semester post-doctoral fellowship beginning January 2014. The fellow will teach one course of their own design and develop an exhibition proposal relating to their area of expertise. The successful candidate will be an innovative scholar/teacher/museum professional with a Ph.D. in contemporary art history, with a preferred emphasis on the intersections of science, technology and gender. Must have museum/ gallery experience and at least three years, full-time college-level teaching experience. The candidate will demonstrate an ability to plan and conceptualize exhibitions on contemporary art and culture based on original research, and will possess an active record of professional and scholarly achievement in contemporary art. The position requires a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and the ability to communicate to a broad audience of faculty, undergraduates, and museum visitors.

The College Art Association is accepting applications to its Millard Meiss Publication Fund. The program supports book-length scholarly manuscripts in the history of art, visual studies, and related subjects that have been accepted by a publisher on their merits but cannot be published in the most desirable form without a subsidy. Commercial, university, and museum publishers of all nations are encouraged to apply. Applicant authors and presses must be institutional CAA member, however.

To that end, grants will be awarded to museums and cultural institutions in support of efforts to conserve works of art that are in danger of deterioration, including works that have been designated as national treasures. To qualify for the program, works of art must be significant to the cultural heritage of the country or region, or important to the history of art; on view to the public (or will be on view once conservation is complete); and be a painting, work on paper, photograph, sculpture, architectural or archeological piece, important book or manuscript, tapestry or work of decorative or applied art in danger of deterioration.

Applicant organizations for NEA Big Read must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; a division of state, local, or tribal government; or a tax-exempt public library. Eligible applicants include organizations such as literary centers, libraries, museums, colleges and universities, art centers, historical societies, arts councils, tribal governments, humanities councils, literary festivals, and arts organizations. Note: K-12 schools, school districts, boards of education, or other school governing bodies, whether public or private, are not eligible applicants, but may partner with eligible applicants. NEA Big Read supports organizations across the country in developing community-wide reading programs which encourage reading and participation by diverse audiences. These programs include activities such as author readings, book discussions, art exhibits, lectures, film series, music or dance events, theatrical performances, panel discussions, and other events and activities related to the community's chosen book or poet. Activities focus on one book or poet from the NEA Big Read library.

The American Academy in Rome invites applications for the Rome Prize competition. One of leading overseas centers for independent study and advanced research in the arts and the humanities. The Academy offers up to thirty fellowships for periods ranging from six months to two years. Rome Prize winners reside at the academy's eleven-acre center in Rome and receive room and board, a private study or studio, and a stipend. The History of Art program supports scholarly projects that will enhance the appreciation and understanding of European art and architecture. Grants are awarded to projects that create and disseminate specialized knowledge, including archival projects, development and dissemination of scholarly databases, documentation projects, museum exhibitions and publications, photographic campaigns, scholarly catalogues and publications, and technical and scientific studies. Grants are also awarded for activities that permit art historians to share their expertise through international exchanges, professional meetings, conferences, symposia, consultations, the presentation of research, and other professional events.

To encourage and enrich international partnerships between art museums, and to enable curators outside the United States both to learn more about historical American art and to develop exhibitions of American art at their home institutions, the foundation offers two types of Exhibition Research and Development Grants: Convening Grants for Internationally Collaborative Exhibitions and Curatorial Travel Grants to the United States. Applications will be judged competitively on an annual basis beginning in spring 2011.

The Caxton Club, founded in 1895 to support "the literary study and promotion of the arts pertaining to the production of books," extends its call for entries for its 2019 - 2020 grants. Grants are awarded for expenses of up to $2,500 (each) for book-related projects to be completed during academic year 2019 - 2020. Grants totaling up to $10,000 will be awarded. Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled in a Midwestern university graduate program during the academic year 2019 - 2020 with a project in one of the following areas:   Bibliography Book arts History of the book Library studies Print culture studies Zines Library workers and other professionals seeking additional training in the above fields are encouraged to apply. Applicants are required to submit samples of work in support the grant application. Book arts applicants should submit either a mock up dummy of the project, if available, or previous work. Bibliography and history applicants may include samples of their previous written work.

The Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts, aims to restore reading to the center of American culture. Managed by Arts Midwest, the program provides organizations with grants and comprehensive resources that support efforts to inspire their community to read and discuss a single book or the work of a poet. Community organizations participating in the Big Read develop and produce reading programs that encourage reading and participation by diverse local audiences. These programs include activities such as author readings, book discussions, art exhibits, lectures, film series, music or dance events, theatrical performances, panel discussions, and other events and activities related to the community's chosen book or poet. Activities must focus on a book or poet from the Big Read Library. Previous grantees must select a different reading choice from their previous programming. The program is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations to develop reading programs between September 1, 2018, and June 30, 2019. Organizations selected to participate receive a grant, educational and promotional materials, and access to online training resources and opportunities. Approximately seventy-five organizations will be selected from communities of varying size in the United States. Eligible organizations may apply for grants ranging between $5,000 and $15,000. Grants must be matched on a one-to-one basis with non-federal funds. Grant funds may be used for such expenses as book purchases, speaker fees and travel, salaries, advertising, and venue rental.

The purpose of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts is to foster innovative artistic expression and the creative process by supporting cultural organizations that, in turn, support artists and their work. Grants are provided to curatorial programs at museums, artists' organizations, and other cultural institutions to originate innovative and scholarly presentations of contemporary visual arts. Projects may include exhibitions, catalogues, and other relevant activities. Proposals that highlight women, artists of color, and under-represented practitioners are encouraged. The Foundation has designated one of its grants, The Wynn Kramarsky Freedom of Artistic Expression Award, to recognize the work of organizations with a deep-seated commitment to defending the First Amendment rights of artists. The Conservation program supports the professional practice of art conservation, especially as it relates to European art of the pre-modern era. Grants are awarded to projects that create and disseminate specialized knowledge, including archival projects, development and dissemination of scholarly databases, documentation projects, exhibitions and publications focusing on art conservation, scholarly publications, and technical and scientific studies.  Grants are also awarded for activities that permit conservators and conservation scientists to share their expertise with both professional colleagues and a broad audience through international exchanges, professional meetings, conferences, symposia, consultations, the presentation of research, exhibitions that include a prominent focus on materials and techniques, and other professional events.

An open competition for proposals from U.S. based non-profit organizations including museums, galleries, visual arts centers and schools to organize the official U.S. presentation at the 56th International Art Exhibition to be held in Venice, Italy, June through November, 2015.

The American Association of Museums' (AAM) Center for the Future of Museums (CFM), EmcArts and MetLife Foundation have launched a major new initiative designed to enable selected museums to design, research and prototype innovations, testing novel approaches to field-wide challenges in a laboratory-like setting. The Innovation Lab for Museums is an 12- to 24-month program for each of the participating institutions, utilizing the expertise of CFM and the proven experience of EmcArts in incubating organizational innovations in the arts field. In this inaugural round of the Lab, three proposals have been accepted focusing on innovation in the realms of: * Youth Education: exploring how museums can play a key role in a rapidly changing educational landscape * Demographic Transformation: how museums can close this gap and serve a broader, more representative sample of American society * Participatory Experiences: how museums can meet the desire of audiences for participatory and social activities in museums.

The grant will cover expenses, such as travel, materials, and tuition fees. In the 2018-2019 academic year, Caxton Club grants were offered to Midwestern graduate students with projects in the following areas: bibliography, book arts, history of the book, literary studies, pring culture studies, and zines.

This project provides a museum conservation focused educational work experience opportunity for participants interested in art and artifact conservation, as well as recent graduates from art conservation training programs, which complements classroom instruction. The participants will acquire and apply diverse skills related to best practices in preventive care and conservation treatment in relation to preparing collections for storage, research, and potential exhibit in a National Park Service setting. They will be exposed to the technical experience of surveying and treating archeological collections. The training and practical work experience this project provides will enhance the studentsâ¿¿ employability in the public or private sector.

Each year, the Rome Prize is awarded to thirty emerging artists and scholars in the early or middle stages of their careers who represent the highest standard of excellence in the arts and humanities. Prize recipients are invited to Rome for six months or eleven months to immerse themselves in the Academy community where they will enjoy a once in a lifetime opportunity to expand their own professional, artistic, or scholarly pursuits, drawing on their colleagues' erudition and experience and on the inestimable resources that Italy, Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Academy have to offer. Rome Prize winners are the core of the Academy's residential community, which also includes Residents and Visiting Artists and Scholars. Fellows are encouraged to work collegially within and across disciplines in pursuit of their individual artistic and scholarly goals. The Academy gratefully acknowledges the National Endowment for the Humanities for its support of the Rome Prize competition.

Selected Fellows will participate in curatorial work and research for a period of four to twelve months at museums or art institutions (in China, Taiwan, Canada, Germany, U.K. or U.S.A.) outside their national borders. Young fellows with less experience will have the opportunities to work under leading curatorial professionals. Round-trip airfare, accommodation, and living expenses during the attachment period will be covered.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston seeks applicants for five Undergraduate Internships and three Graduate Fellowships for the Summer 2014 term. The available opportunities are in the Curatorial, Education, and Legal Administration Departments. Interns and Fellows are provided with a stipend. Applications are due March 3, 2014 at 6pm. The Summer 2014 term runs from June 2 to August 8, 2014 and takes place in Houston, Texas.
