Thanks to generous support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation The Phillips Museum of Art at Franklin & Marshall College invites applications for a one-semester post-doctoral fellowship beginning January 2014. The fellow will teach one course of their own design and develop an exhibition proposal relating to their area of expertise. The successful candidate will be an innovative scholar/teacher/museum professional with a Ph.D. in contemporary art history, with a preferred emphasis on the intersections of science, technology and gender. Must have museum/ gallery experience and at least three years, full-time college-level teaching experience. The candidate will demonstrate an ability to plan and conceptualize exhibitions on contemporary art and culture based on original research, and will possess an active record of professional and scholarly achievement in contemporary art. The position requires a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and the ability to communicate to a broad audience of faculty, undergraduates, and museum visitors.

Positions in Public Humanities are intended to reinvigorate the interpretation of the humanities at museums and historical organizations. As part of an AHCO grant request, organizations are invited to request a supplement for a Position in Public Humanities. This program supports two-year, entry-level positions at museums, historical societies, and historic sites for recent graduates of public humanities programs (MA or PhD) whose expertise is critical to a project's success. In funding these positions at selected museums and historical organizations, NEH seeks to strengthen AHCO projects by incorporating fresh ideas and perspectives. We also hope to give new graduates meaningful experience working in public humanities institutions. We anticipate funding up to ten two-year positions at a salary of $30,000/year. The next application deadline for America's Historical and Cultural Organizations is August 14.

The American Academy in Rome invites applications for the Rome Prize competition. One of leading overseas centers for independent study and advanced research in the arts and the humanities. The Academy offers up to thirty fellowships for periods ranging from six months to two years. Rome Prize winners reside at the academy's eleven-acre center in Rome and receive room and board, a private study or studio, and a stipend. Fellowships are awarded in the following fields: -Architecture -Design (including graphic, fashion, interior, lighting, and set design, engineering, urban planning, and other related design fields) -Historic Preservation and Conservation (including architectural design, public policy, and the conservation of works of art) -Landscape Architecture -Literature (** by nomination only) -Musical composition -Visual Arts -Ancient Studies -Medieval Studies -Renaissance and Early Modern Studies -Modern Italian Studies For further information, or to apply, visit the Academy's website at www.aarome.org. In September, Miami received notice from the government that our new F&A rates are: 44.5% for On Campus Organized Research 44.0% On Campus Sponsored Instruction 39.0% On Campus Other Sponsored Activities 26.0% Off Campus All Programs These rates are effective beginning September 1, 2014. Awards received beginning in September and all proposal submissions going forward will be required to use the new rates.

The Cummins Grant provides a stipend of $10,000 to support short-term historical research using Special Collections at GW's Jacob Burns Law Library, which is noted for its continental historical legal collections, especially its French Collection. Special Collections also is distinguished by its holdings in Roman and canon law, church-state relations, international law, and its many incunabula. The grant is awarded to one doctoral, LLM, or SJD candidate; postdoctoral researcher; faculty member; or independent scholar. Candidates may come from a variety of disciplines including, but not limited to, law, history, religion, philosophy, or bibliography.

The Medici Archive Project (MAP) wishes to provide graduate and doctoral students from diverse disciplines with the opportunity to have exposure to original source materials and training in their use. For this reason MAP is offering five short-term fellowships sponsored by the SAMUEL FREEMAN CHARITABLE TRUST (SFCF) for graduate students in any field of the humanities or social sciences who are in the early stages of their dissertation work. The SFCF fellowships have been developed to enable students working on their dissertations to conduct primary research using the Mediceo del Principato and other collections housed in the Archivio di Stato in Florence. This scholarly residence will be of considerable benefit in helping the students to gain the necessary skills, experience and confidence to continue independent academic research in the later stages of their graduate trajectory. While undertaking primary research for their dissertation in the Florentine state archives, the Fellows will benefit from the supervision of the MAP Staff, academics drawn from a variety of disciplines who are experts in archival research, paleography and the digital humanities. The Fellows will also have the opportunity to expand their academic networks through contact with the many international scholars who regularly visit and collaborate with MAP. Finally, Fellows will be enrolled in the annual MAP Archival Studies Seminar. The fellowships last for an uninterrupted period of two-and-a-half months, taking place at any point between 1 January 2014 and 15 July 2014. The SFCT Fellows will undertake their dissertation research on-site in the Archivio di Stato. The candidates will have the following qualifications: a completed M.Phil (or equivalent) in any field of early modern humanities and fluency in English and Italian.

Selected Fellows will participate in curatorial work and research for a period of four to twelve months at museums or art institutions (in China, Taiwan, Canada, Germany, U.K. or U.S.A.) outside their national borders. Young fellows with less experience will have the opportunities to work under leading curatorial professionals. Round-trip airfare, accommodation, and living expenses during the attachment period will be covered.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston seeks applicants for five Undergraduate Internships and three Graduate Fellowships for the Summer 2014 term. The available opportunities are in the Curatorial, Education, and Legal Administration Departments. Interns and Fellows are provided with a stipend. Applications are due March 3, 2014 at 6pm. The Summer 2014 term runs from June 2 to August 8, 2014 and takes place in Houston, Texas.

The National Historical Publications and Records Commission seeks projects that encourage public engagement with historical records, including the development of new tools that enable people to engage online. The NHPRC is looking for projects that create models and technologies that other institutions can freely adopt. In general, collaborations among archivists, documentary editors, historians, educators, and/or community-based individuals are more likely to create a competitive proposal.

The American Center for Mongolian Studies (ACMS), with funding support from the US State Department Educational and Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers, seeks applicants for a short-term directed fellowship in Textile Conservation to take place in Mongolia between August and December, 2020. The fellow will work with ACMS on a joint US-Mongolia textile conservation project sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar's U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) grant titled, "Conserving and Preserving Mongolia's Endangered Textile Traditions and Collections." The program will provide $4,000 to support the selected fellow's participation in the project, which will primarily take place at the National Museum of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar. The fellow will have the opportunity for in-depth examination and treatment of fabrics and textiles, costumes, and accessories representing Eurasian steppe cultures roughly spanning 2,000 years. Fabrics and textiles deriving from animal sources (silk, fur, wool, skin) feature prominently in combination with various other mediums. Most work will take place at the National Museum of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar. The fellow will work under the direction of a lead textile conservator, and in collaboration with a Mongolian fellow and cultural heritage/museum professionals with varying language proficiency. The fellow will conduct research and take part in all aspects of piloting and implementing a nationwide program aimed at advancing the professional development of textile conservation competencies in: Conservation examination and documentation methodologies, Improvement of atypical storage environments, Exhibition mounting and display, Archaeological textile salvage and stabilization, and Treatments including humidification, removal of previous repairs, cleaning, drying of wet/damp material, consolidation and stabilization of losses and tears, and compensation for loss.
