NARSAD Young Investigator Grant - 0 views

    The NARSAD Young Investigator Grant provides support for the most promising Young scientists conducting neurobiological research. Two year awards up to $60,000, or $30,000 per year are provided to enable promising investigators to either extend research fellowship training or begin careers as independent research faculty. Basic and/or clinical investigators are supported, but research must be relevant to serious brain and behavior disorders such as schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, or child and adolescent mental illnesses. A few NARSAD Young Investigators are selected each year to present at the foundation's annual Scientific Symposium in New York City. NARSAD Young Investigators are also eligible to be selected for the Foundation's Freedman Prize for Outstanding Basic Research and Klerman Prize for Outstanding Clinical Research. Selection is based upon outstanding research as outlined in the final progress report of the NARSAD Grant project.

    : The purpose of this program is to improve access to treatment and support services for youth and young adults, ages 16-25, who have a serious emotional disturbance (SED) or a serious mental illness (SMI), hereafter referred to as serious mental disorders. It is expected that this program will improve emotional and behavioral health functioning so that this population of youth and young adults can maximize their potential to assume adult roles and responsibilities and lead full and productive lives.Youth and young adults with SMI or SED between the ages of 16-25, including those with intellectual developmental disabilities, may not be working, in school, or in vocational and higher education programs. Some face the additional challenge of experiencing homelessness, or being in contact with the juvenile or criminal justice system, thereby increasing the likelihood of admissions to hospitals, mental health, and/or correctional facilities.

The MCH Adolescent and Young Adult Health Research Network - 0 views

    The purpose of this cooperative agreement opportunity is to support the creation and/or maintenance of a transdisciplinary, multisite Research Network that will accelerate the translation of developmental science into MCH practice, promote scientific collaboration, and develop additional research capacity in the fields of adolescent and young adult (ages 10-25) health.     The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Mental Health Services is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2013 National Resource Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention (YVP-RC) cooperative agreement. The purpose of this jointly funded program is to serve as a national resource and training center to increase the effectiveness of youth violence prevention, prevention of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders, and promotion of the healthy development of children and youth. The YVP-RC will also provide technical assistance for SAMHSA's Safe Schools/Healthy Students (SS/HS) and Linking Actions for Unmet Needs in Children's Health (Project LAUNCH) grant programs. Funding for this announcement is from the Youth Violence Prevention program in the amount of $4.599 million (74 percent) and $1.572 million (26 percent) from Project LAUNCH. It is SAMHSA's intent that the YVP-RC provide states/tribes, organizations, and communities with the resources they need to eliminate or reduce the impact of risk factors and promote positive and protective factors for children, youth, young adults, and their families. This program will advance the dissemination and use of prevention research to inform development and implementation of policies and programs across state and tribal agencies. Planning and implementation of statewide prevention programming and policies will be accomplished through the use of a public health approach. The YVP-RC also seeks to address health disparities among racial and ethnic minorities by ensuring that YVP-RC recipients are encouraged to develop and implement strategies to decrease differences in prevalence, access, service use, and outcomes among racial and ethnic minority children, youth, young adults, and families served.

    CHADD is now accepting applications for the 2014 Young Scientist Research Fund Awards.  The program recognizes researchers new to the ADHD field who are making contributions to the understanding of ADHD.  Through the Fund, CHADD supports researchers with: an unrestricted cash award of $5,000 each recognition at CHADD's Annual International Conference an allowance to cover most conference related expenses (travel, hotel, registration)  a one-year CHADD professional membership.     Society for Research in Child Development Victoria S. Levin Grant The grant serves the promising pre-tenured, junior investigator by: 1. Supporting release time from duties during which time the grantee writes and submits an application in the area of early childhood mental health to the NIH. This support compensates the grantee's unit/department for the work from which the grantee is released. Having adequate time to develop and submit a grant application is essential for early career success. 2. Providing travel funds for a trip to NIH to meet program staff. This support helps the grantee develop meaningful contacts with NIH program staff who can guide the application preparation and revision (funding usually requires two application submissions). 3.Providing a pre-review of the candidate's NIH application. This support allows the mentor and grantee to benefit from an external critique of the NIH application prior to its submission. In our experience, this pre-review heightens the chances of early success in the first round of review and the mentor is able to guide the grantee in responding to reviews. The purpose of the BCP is to provide an alternative for runaway and homeless youth who might otherwise end up with law enforcement or in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice systems. The BCP works to establish or strengthen community-based programs that meet the immediate needs of runaway and homeless youth and their families. Most basic centers can provide 21 days of shelter for up to 20 youth at a time. There are exceptions for jurisdictions that have different standards for licensing. This annual program was established to fund research projects that will contribute to priority and emerging areas in the field of pediatric psychology, and that will allow investigators to collect pilot data to aid in securing additional major grant funding.
