The NARSAD Young Investigator Grant provides support for the most promising young scientists conducting neurobiological research. Two year awards up to $60,000, or $30,000 per year are provided to enable promising investigators to either extend research fellowship training or begin careers as independent research faculty. Basic and/or clinical investigators are supported, but research must be relevant to serious brain and behavior disorders such as schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, or child and adolescent mental illnesses. A few NARSAD Young Investigators are selected each year to present at the foundation's annual Scientific Symposium in New York City. NARSAD Young Investigators are also eligible to be selected for the Foundation's Freedman Prize for Outstanding Basic research and Klerman Prize for Outstanding Clinical research. Selection is based upon outstanding research as outlined in the final progress report of the NARSAD Grant project.

The Society of Pediatric Psychology (SPP) is pleased to announce its Targeted Research Grant program. This annual program was established to fund Research projects that will contribute to priority and emerging areas in the field of pediatric psychology, and that will allow investigators to collect pilot data to aid in securing additional major grant funding. For the 2013 award cycle, the priority areas identified are: Technology ( eHealth interventions and information and communication technologies)Health care cost-offset ResearchPrimary care-focused practice or interventionsStudies of novel measurement/assessment strategies (e.g., validation of new questionnaires focused on patient-reported outcomes)Another novel or emerging Research area in the field of pediatric psychology. Applicant must demonstrate or document why this area is novel or emerging. SPP will award up to two grants in the amount of $20,000 each to cover one year of funding to those Research proposals demonstrating the greatest merit and potential for success. Although priority will be given to young investigators (within seven years of PhD), investigators at any stage of career are encouraged to apply for this funding. For example, a mid-career Researcher who is moving into a new emerging Research area would be eligible to apply. Only sole principal investigator (PI) applications will be accepted. The annual award recognizes a senior researcher who has made a significant contribution to research on the causes and treatment of schizophrenia as both a researcher and a mentor. A $1,500 award will be made to the senior researcher, and $20,000 will support the research career development of a young research psychiatrist working in a mentor-trainee relationship with the award winner on further research in this field.

The goal of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to provide a global outline of areas for innovative, targeted basic behavioral and social science research and intervention development research to reduce the number of new HIV infections and improve the overall health of those living with HIV and encourage research grant applications in these areas. This FOA encourages research designed to (a) conduct basic behavioral and social science research that is needed to advance the development of HIV prevention and care interventions, (b) translate and operationalize the findings from these basic studies to develop interventions and assess their feasibility and (c) conduct tests of the efficacy of HIV prevention and care interventions. The R21 mechanism is specifically intended to encourage new exploratory and developmental research projects. These studies should break new ground or extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications. These studies may involve considerable risk but may lead to a breakthrough in a particular area, or to the development of novel methodologies, tools, technologies, or interventions that could have a major impact on health research and practice. Unlike applications under the R01 mechanism, preliminary data are not required for R21 applications. Preliminary data may nonetheless be included if available.

The Society for Military Psychology (Division 19 of the American Psychological Association) announces its annual competition for Division 19 Student Research Grants. The purpose of the Division 19 Student Research Grant program is to assist graduate/undergraduate students of psychology with costs associated with conducting Research. Up to two (2) Student Research Grants of $1500 each will be awarded in fall 2014. This annual award will be presented to students whose Research reflects excellence in military psychology. The award winner(s) may request up to $750 in dedicated travel funds to aid with APA Convention attendance. While it is Division 19's goal that Student Research Grant award recipients receive the award at the annual convention and/or present their findings to Division 19 members, APA Convention attendance is not required.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports Research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nations biomedical, behavioral and clinical Research needs and advance the priorities outlined in the Office of AIDS Research (OAR) Annual Strategic Plan and the Research program priorities of the NIMH Division of AIDS Research (DAR).

The mission of the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders by funding, catalyzing, and driving Research of the greatest quality. The program is seeking applications for SFARI awards from individuals who will conduct bold, imaginative, rigorous, and relevant Research. Applications are invited for two categories of grants, including SFARI Pilot Awards and SFARI Pilot Awards. 1) SFARI Pilot Awards: These grants are intended for innovative, high-impact proposals requesting support for small-scale projects or early-stage experiments that will build on preliminary data or a prior track record and lead to competitive applications for funding by SFARI or other organizations. Investigators new to the field of autism are encouraged to apply. The maximum budget is $330,000 (including indirect costs) over two years. 2) SFARI Research Awards: Grants awarded through this category are designed for investigators with demonstrated expertise conducting compelling high-impact Research on an experimental hypothesis for which, in most cases, preliminary data have already been gathered. The foundation also will consider projects focused on a central hypothesis where success depends on close collaboration between two or more labs. The initiative expects to fund proposals for a maximum of $975,000 over to three years. All applicants and key collaborators must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree and have a faculty position or equivalent at a college, university, medical school, or other Research facility.

The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), through the Fertility and Infertility (FI) Branch, provides funding for a limited number of research centers in the reproductive sciences. These centers provide an arena for multidisciplinary interactions among basic and clinical scientists interested in establishing high quality translational research programs in this scientific area. The centers also serve as national resources for the training and career development of junior scientists electing to pursue biomedical research careers in reproduction and infertility. Finally, center investigators develop and participate in community outreach and education efforts to increase awareness and convey the importance and implications of their research activities to the general public. The purpose of this FOA is to announce the re-competition of the National Centers for Translational research in Reproduction and Infertility (NCTRI). The NCTRI will be administered through the Specialized research Center (P50) award mechanism. These centers will form a national network that facilitates and accelerates bidirectional knowledge transfer between the laboratory and clinic with the ultimate goal of improving human reproductive health through research excellence and innovation.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Young Faculty Award (YFA) program aims to identify and engage rising stars in junior faculty positions in academia and equivalent positions at non-profit Research institutions and expose them to Department of Defense (DoD) and National Security challenges and needs. In particular, YFA will provide high-impact funding to elite Researchers early in their careers to develop innovative new Research directions in the context of enabling transformative DoD capabilities. The long-term goal of the program is to develop the next generation of scientists and engineers in the Research community who will focus a significant portion of their future careers on DoD and National Security issues. DARPA is particularly interested in identifying outstanding Researchers who have previously not been performers on DARPA programs, but the program is open to all qualified applicants with innovative Research ideas.

The Fellowship Program for Advanced Social Science Research on Japan is a joint activity of the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission (JUSFC) and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Awards support Research on modern Japanese society and political economy, Japan's international relations, and U.S.-Japan relations. The program encourages innovative Research that puts these subjects in wider regional and global contexts and is comparative and contemporary in nature. Research should contribute to scholarly knowledge or to the general public's understanding of issues of concern to Japan and the United States. Appropriate disciplines for the Research include anthropology, economics, geography, history, international relations, linguistics, political science, psychology, public administration, and sociology. The Global Health Research Innovation Center (GHRIC) is pleased to announce a call for proposals for faculty Research grants. These grants are designed to foster the development of Research initiatives and partnership projects in global health. Grants will be made to Miami faculty to undertake small-scale, collaborative pilot Research projects in global health and/or travel (of Miami faculty or domestic/international collaborators) to cultivate Research relationships through establishing institutional linkages and jointly developing or writing Research proposals. The expectation is that at least one outcome of each project will be the submission of an external grant proposal. Proposed projects must involve at least two Miami faculty members from different departments. Budgets are expected to be between $4000-$8000. We expect to award at least 2 grants for the 2016-2017 academic year. If funded, additional funding of up to $1000 may be available to help support presentation of the proposed project at either the annual conference of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health or the Global Health and Innovation Conference (Unite for Sight).

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports Research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH.  The goal of this NIGMS R25 program is to support educational activities that enhance the diversity of the biomedical, behavioral and clinical Research workforce.  To this end, this funding opportunity announcement encourages the development of creative educational activities with a primary focus on Research Experiences and Courses for Skills Development.  Applications are encouraged from Research-intensive institutions that propose to develop recent baccalaureate science graduates from diverse backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral sciences so that they have the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue PhD or MD-PhD degrees in these fields.  The program provides support for well-designed courses for skills development and extensive Research experiences aimed at preparing individuals from diverse backgrounds to complete doctoral degrees.

The Conte Centers program is intended to support interdisciplinary basic and/or translational Research demonstrating an extraordinary level of synergy, integration, and potential for advancing the state of the field. This program is intended only for projects that could not be achieved using other, more standard grant mechanisms. The Conte Centers program also provides an opportunity to establish interdisciplinary basic and/or translational Research experiences for individuals in training.
