The Soros Justice Fellowships Program's Media Fellowships support writers, print and broadcast journalists, bloggers, filmmakers, and other individuals with distinctive voices proposing to complete media projects that engage and inform, spur debate and conversation, and catalyze change on important U.S. criminal justice issues. The Media Fellowships aim to mitigate the time, space, and market constraints that often discourage individuals from pursuing vital but marginalized, controversial, or unpopular topics in comprehensive and creative ways. Media Fellowships are 12 months in duration, and fellows are expected to make their projects their full-time work during the term of the fellowship. Projects can begin in either the spring or fall of 2014.

Preservation Assistance Grants help small and mid-sized institutions-such as libraries, museums, historical societies, archival repositories, cultural organizations, town and county records offices, and colleges and universities-improve their ability to preserve and care for their significant humanities collections. These may include special collections of books and journals, archives and manuscripts, prints and photographs, moving images, sound recordings, architectural and cartographic records, decorative and fine art objects, textiles, archaeological and ethnographic artifacts, furniture, historical objects, and digital materials.

The Academy Grants program directly supports the overall mission of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: to recognize and uphold excellence in the motion picture arts and sciences, inspire imagination, and connect the world through the medium of motion pictures. The program also supports the Academy's commitment to diversity in the industry. Diversity encompasses artists as well as audiences; the cultural and geographic communities to which they belong; their age, gender, race, ethnicity, disabilities, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, and gender identity. The Academy seeks to fund proven and rising institutions that open pathways for storytellers from a wide range of backgrounds, and especially those from underserved communities.

Grant applications are open to individuals and NFP educational, cultural and/or social justice organizations for projects meeting our Mission's objectives that utilize Fine Arts, Dance, Music, Theater, Creative Writing, Poetry, Photography, or those that create Educational Reels (only) with teaching guides of documentaries or have Public Interest Platforms/Forums such as Independent Journalists or those NFPs which engage in community non-partisan discussions.

The Japan Foundation New York office (JFNY) accepts applications from non-profit organizations for projects that take place within the 37 states east of the Rocky Mountains, plus Washington D.C., listed below for the JFNY Grant for Arts & Culture on a rolling basis throughout the year. This grant aims to support projects that will further understanding of Japanese arts and culture. Successful projects are granted up to $5,000. This grant also supports online projects related to Arts & Cultural Exchange that incorporate issues pertaining to the COVID-19 global pandemic such as virtual exhibitions, virtual performances, film streaming, online conference as well as webinar. Priority will be given to those projects that have secured additional funding from sources other than the Japan Foundation.

Mission Strengthen democracy by making independent voices heard. Description In his book The Media Monopoly Ben Bagdikian writes, "The object of reform is not to silence voices but to multiply them, not to foreclose ideas but to awaken them." Without a strong and diverse community of independent voices, we cannot build a global democracy much less protect our own. The goal of independent media is not to comfort or sell but to inspire and mobilize. It currently serves what Howard Zinn calls the "unreported resistance," the "permanent adversarial culture" - but its real ambition is to give voice to the world's silent majority.

A. Noam Chomsky Global Connections Awards celebrate the power of human connections. The awards recognize distinguished service to the global mission of the STAR Scholars Network. Several individuals with a deep impact on advancing global, social mobility are recognized every year. We live in a time when innovation and creativity in support of humanity are of great importance. The Star Scholars Network recognizes the commitment of concerned people able and willing to make a difference in the lives of others. Nominations for this award are solicited from around the world. The nominee can be from any field. Beginning in 2020, the Star Scholars Network is committed to promoting transnational research, or collaborative research between scholars of two or more countries (e.g., joint publications, research partnerships, etc.). The Global Connections Awards recognize STAR Scholars for their achievements and distinctive contributions to translational research that demonstrates the very best of scholarly collaboration among scholars around the world. In December 2020, the Star Scholars Network will provide awards in three categories: North Star Medal of Lifetime Achievement, Shining Star Achievement in Research Award, Rising Star Emerging Scholar Certificate

Guggenheim Fellowships are grants to selected individuals made for a minimum of six months and a maximum of twelve months. Since the purpose of the Guggenheim Fellowship program is to help provide Fellows with blocks of time in which they can work with as much creative freedom as possible, grants are made freely. No special conditions attach to them, and Fellows may spend their grant funds in any manner they deem necessary to their work. The application for the 2021 United States and Canada competition is now available. All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. or Canada at the time of application. The application deadline is Thursday, September 17, 2020.

As a part of its current initiative, Standing Together: The Humanities and the Experience of War, the National Endowment for the Humanities offers the Dialogues on the Experience of War program. The program supports the study and discussion of important humanities sources about war, in the belief that these sources can help U.S. military veterans and others to think more deeply about the issues raised by war and military service. The humanities sources can be drawn from history, philosophy, literature, and film-and they may and should be supplemented by testimonials from those who have served. The discussions are intended to promote serious exploration of important questions about the nature of duty, heroism, suffering, loyalty, and patriotism.

This program helps safeguard the basic freedoms guaranteed in our Bill of Rights, to help eliminate all forms of prejudice and discrimination, and to assist government agencies to be more accountable to the public. The Herb Block Foundation will also consider contemporary societal issues that may arise.Grants are available nationwide.

"The Public Humanities Projects program supports projects that bring the ideas and insights of the humanities to life for general audiences through in-person programming.  Projects must engage humanities scholarship to analyze significant themes in disciplines such as history, literature, ethics, and art history. Public Humanities Projects supports projects in three program categories (Exhibitions, Historic Places, and Humanities Discussions), and at two funding levels (Planning and Implementation). Regardless of proposed activity, NEH encourages applicants to explore humanities ideas through multiple formats.  Proposed projects may include complementary components: for example, a museum exhibition might be accompanied by a website or mobile app. Small and mid-sized organizations are especially encouraged to apply.  We likewise welcome humanities projects tailored to particular groups, such as families, youth (including K-12 students in informal educational settings), underserved communities, and veterans. Applicants are advised to consider developing partnerships with other institutions, particularly organizations such as cultural alliances, broadcast media stations, cultural heritage centers, state humanities councils, veterans' centers, and libraries."

Summer Stipends support continuous full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two consecutive months. NEH funds may support recipients' compensation, travel, and other costs related to the proposed scholarly research. NEH staff hosted a webinar describing the program, including eligibility, the application and nomination processes, and suggestions for writing an effective application. The Institute for Humane Studies offers funding in the amount of $50,000 for semester-long sabbaticals for the study, research, and teaching of classical liberal ideas. Areas of interest for these highly competitive awards include research in the classical liberal intellectual tradition, free/open markets, individual rights, private property, peace, prosperity, self-determination/autonomy, decentralization, limited government, privacy, free speech, the cultural drivers and consequences of classical liberal ideas, and related themes. IHS welcomes applications for the Sabbatical Research Fellowship from permanent, full-time faculty at four-year degree granting institutions in the humanities and social sciences, but preference will be given to scholars in the early stages of their career.

Pillars Fund is dedicated to amplifying the leadership, narrative, and talents of American Muslims. Pillars aspires to put an end to bigotry, xenophobia, and other divisive tactics that keep our nation apart. Support is provided to nonprofit organizations throughout the United States that address the following issues: Rights, with a focus on social and policy change efforts that protect and expand the human and civil rights of us all; Wellness, with a focus on the growth and nurturing of whole, healthy American Muslim communities; and Understanding, with a focus on amplifying American Muslim voices and creating a deeper understanding of American Muslims.

The Short Documentaries program supports production of single films or a series of thematically-related short films addressing significant figures, events, or ideas.  The proposed film(s) must be intended for regional or national distribution, via broadcast, festivals, and/or online distribution.  The subject of the film(s) must be related to "A More Perfect Union": NEH Special Initiative Advancing Civic Education and Commemorating the Nation's 250th Anniversary.

The Laura Bassi Scholarship was established by Editing Press in 2018 with the aim of providing editorial assistance to postgraduates and junior academics whose research focuses on neglected topics of study, broadly construed, within their disciplines.

The SFFILM Westridge Grant is a fund that supports US-based, independent narrative feature films in the screenwriting phase. Grants are awarded twice annually to projects that address social issues and pressing questions of our time through creative and original storytelling. The SFFILM Westridge Grant is open to US-based filmmakers whose stories take place in the United States. A total of $200,000 will be granted annually through this program, with four or five $20,000-$25,000 grants awarded in each spring and fall. In addition to financial support, grantees receive a range of benefits through SFFILM's comprehensive and dynamic artist development programs, as well as support and feedback from SFFILM and Westridge Foundation staff.
