The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan is pleased to announce an open competition for eligible organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to create and broadcast via television and radio a multi-language drama series set a few years in Afghanistan's future showing what could be possible if the nation embraced peace and reconciliation. This cooperative agreement will support the development, production, and television and radio broadcast of a Pashto- and Dari-language television and radio drama series set in Afghanistan's future following successful peace and reconciliation. It will show possibilities for Afghans as individuals, as communities, and as a nation under a lasting peace and reconciliation process. The drama will attempt to foreshadow the positive results of a successful peace reconciliation process: harmony between ethnicities, safe travel between provinces, job creation, economic growth, foreign investment, construction in the capital and provinces, and Afghanistan's role as a peaceful and independent nation on the world stage. Through flashbacks, the drama will also show pivotal times in Afghanistan's history as well as difficult and complex past decisions made by individuals, communities, and the nation that resulted in this peaceful and prosperous future. The series should acknowledge that conflict between characters and groups will remain, but demonstrate how those conflicts are managed peacefully.

This project will provide two separate streams of English training, one for journalists and one for export-oriented business professionals, for the purpose of giving both audiences the necessary language skills to communicate more effectively. For journalists, the project will enable participants to more effectively research and develop stories in English, and to represent current events in Afghanistan to a larger international audience. For export-oriented business professionals, the course will enhance their ability to engage in relationship-building and transactions with other English speakers, with the intent of boosting international trade. The successful applicant is expected to administer and conduct English courses for each group, separately, over a 12-month period to at least 80 participants for each of the two separate streams. The courses will include topics and vocabulary relevant to each audience, and will improve participants' English ability in reading, listening, speaking, and writing. To target the skills development of women, gender balance among participants will be taken into consideration in the selection process.

To support the interest of journalists in developing their English language skills, the Embassy of the United States has supported English courses for journalists in six cities of Kazakhstan. On the basis of this experience, the Embassy intends to continue this program to help more Kazakhstani journalists enhance their knowledge of professional English and apply their knowledge of English to advance their careers.

The U.S. Embassy Baku Public Affairs Section (PAS) is pleased to announce that funding is available through its Annual Program Statement. U.S. Embassy Baku's Annual Program Statement solicits proposals for projects that further the U.S. Mission's public diplomacy goals of expanding and strengthening people-to-people ties between Azerbaijan and the United States, engaging with local media, and building and strengthening local partners through the specific objectives listed. Public diplomacy programming includes cultural programming, educational exchanges, workshops and training for entrepreneurs, English-language programming, innovation in and improvement of education systems, promoting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, and promoting professional journalism. All programs must include a connection with American culture, expert(s), organization(s), or institution(s) in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policies and perspectives.

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Yaounde, Cameroon announces an open competition for an assistance award through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). PAS Yaounde invites all eligible organizations to submit a proposal for a French-language television and radio entertainment drama series that addresses the issue of countering violent extremism among young people in contemporary Cameroonian society and highlights the power of civic engagement and peaceful community involvement to enact positive change and provide an alternative to violent extremism.

 We are seeking an organization that has experience in working in local languages and working with vernacular journalists, and especially organizations or institutions with linkages to India and specifically South India. The grantee would need to work with local partners in each of the three states in our district to develop online materials and coursework for vernacular journalists.

The Public Affairs Office of the US Embassy in Tirana, Albania, pending on availability of funds, accepting proposals for an "Investigative Journalism Exchange Program" that would: a) provide training for 6 to 8 Albanian journalism students and early career journalists at a U.S. journalism school for one week to ten days including classroom and field work on investigative reporting topics. Participants in the program would be identified by the U.S. Embassy, b) bring 6 to 8 U.S. masters-degree or senior journalism students for one week to Tirana to work with Albanian university journalists and young reporters on investigative reporting projects. The exchange will work closely with the existing Investigative Journalism Lab project, and reports will be featured on the projects website www.pse2017.com in both languages. The program will focus on how to conduct investigative reporting that increases government accountability and helps expose and fight corruption in the online era. Journalism students would work in teams on jointly agreed topics during the two respective trips. The exchange program would enhance improve journalism skills and produce actual investigations, enhanced with strong photo and video elements. Lecturers from the Journalism Lab and the hosting U.S. institution will help mentor the students before, during and after the exchange, until the time of the publication of the investigative pieces.

Collaborative Research Grants support interpretive humanities research undertaken by two or more collaborating scholars, for full-time or part-time activities for periods of one to three years. Support is available for various combinations of scholars, consultants, and research assistants; project-related travel and archival research; field work; and technical support and services. All grantees are expected to disseminate the results of their work to the appropriate scholarly and public audiences. Eligible projects include: -Research that significantly adds to knowledge and understanding of the humanities; -Conferences on topics of major importance in the humanities that will benefit scholarly research; and -Archaeological projects that emphasize interpretation, data reuse, and dissemination of results.
