The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan is pleased to announce an open competition for eligible organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to create and broadcast via television and radio a multi-language drama series set a few years in Afghanistan's future showing what could be possible if the nation embraced peace and reconciliation. This cooperative agreement will support the development, production, and television and radio broadcast of a Pashto- and Dari-language television and radio drama series set in Afghanistan's future following successful peace and reconciliation. It will show possibilities for Afghans as individuals, as communities, and as a nation under a lasting peace and reconciliation process. The drama will attempt to foreshadow the positive results of a successful peace reconciliation process: harmony between ethnicities, safe travel between provinces, job creation, economic growth, foreign investment, construction in the capital and provinces, and Afghanistan's role as a peaceful and independent nation on the world stage. Through flashbacks, the drama will also show pivotal times in Afghanistan's history as well as difficult and complex past decisions made by individuals, communities, and the nation that resulted in this peaceful and prosperous future. The series should acknowledge that conflict between characters and groups will remain, but demonstrate how those conflicts are managed peacefully.

Now in its thirty-third year, the annual program provides financial support to developing or established professionals for projects that are pivotal to the advancement of their career as artists. Because such projects may happen at different stages of a career, Emerging Artists grants are not restricted to new or emerging artists. Grants of up to $1,500 will be awarded in support of artistic projects in the areas of painting/drawing, photography, installation, film/video, drama, literature, printmaking/mixed media, craft, sculpture, dance, and music.

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Yaounde, Cameroon announces an open competition for an assistance award through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). PAS Yaounde invites all eligible organizations to submit a proposal for a French-language television and radio entertainment drama series that addresses the issue of countering violent extremism among young people in contemporary Cameroonian society and highlights the power of civic engagement and peaceful community involvement to enact positive change and provide an alternative to violent extremism.

The Professional Development for Arts Educators (PDAE) program supports the implementation of high-quality model professional development programs in elementary and secondary education for music, dance, drama, media arts, or visual arts, including folk arts, for educators and other arts instructional staff of kindergarten through grade 12 (K-12) students in high-poverty schools. The purpose of this program is to strengthen standards-based arts education programs and to help ensure that all students meet challenging State academic content standards and challenging State student academic achievement standards in the arts. 

The Gene D. Cohen Award, sponsored by the National Center for Creative Aging (NCCA), recognizes and honors the seminal work of Dr. Gene Cohen, whose research in the field of creativity and aging has shifted the conceptual focus from a problem paradigm to one of promise and potential. Dr. Cohen has inspired us to approach longevity asking what wonders can be achieved, not in spite of age, but because of age. The award is presented annually to a professional whose research in the field of creativity and aging demonstrates these positive attributes. Indiana University's African Studies Program invites applications for a short-term residency to conduct research in IU's Libraries/African Studies Collections. Indiana University's African Studies Collection ranks among the top tier of such collections in the U.S. It comprises more than 150,000 volumes of monographs and over 700 serial subscriptions as well as materials in other formats (e.g. posters, slides, film/video, audio tapes, etc). The focus of the collection is on the humanities and social sciences, supporting a wide range of students and faculty in such departments as history, anthropology, fine arts, theatre & drama, literature, folklore, ethnomusicology, communication and culture, linguistics, religious studies, education, political science, business, economics, journalism, and applied health science. This residency is intended for faculty members at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or at other U.S. colleges / universities with limited Africa collections, to conduct research in Indiana University's libraries and special collections in support of curriculum development or publications. The successful applicant will receive an award that covers domestic travel, accommodations in Bloomington, and a modest per diem for up to two weeks of research. The award will cover expenses up to a maximum of $2,000 and must be used before August 01, 2014. The recipient is expected to reside in Bloomington during the period of her/his award.

All projects must be grounded in humanities scholarship in disciplines such as history, art history, film studies, literature, drama, religious studies, philosophy, or anthropology. Projects must also demonstrate an approach that is thoughtful, balanced, and analytical (rather than celebratory). The approach to the subject matter must go beyond the mere presentation of factual information to explore its larger significance and stimulate critical thinking. NEH is a national funding agency, so the projects that we support must demonstrate the potential to attract a broad general audience. Film and television projects may be single programs or a series addressing significant figures, events, or ideas. Programs must be intended for national distribution, via traditional carriage or online distribution.
