    The CDS&E-MSS program accepts proposals that confront and embrace the host of mathematical and statistical challenges presented to the scientific and engineering communities by the ever-expanding role of computational modeling and simulation on the one hand, and the explosion in production of digital and observational data on the other. The goal of the program is to promote the creation and development of the next generation of mathematical and statistical theories and tools that will be essential for addressing such issues. To this end, the program will support fundamental research in mathematics and statistics whose primary emphasis will be on meeting the aforementioned computational and data-related challenges. This program is part of the wider Computational and Data-enabled Science and Engineering (CDS&E) enterprise in NSF that seeks to address this emerging discipline. The research supported by the CDS&E-MSS program will aim to advance mathematics or statistics in a significant way and will address computational or big-data challenges.

Surveillance and response to recent HIV transmission among persons newly diagnosed with... - 0 views

    The purpose of this NOFO is to provide funding and technical assistance for PEPFAR countries to establish HIV recent infection surveillance to detect recent infections, monitor trends in the HIV epidemic, identify hot spots associated with recent HIV transmission, and inform programmatic interventions to reach epidemic control. Point-of-care tests for recent infection distinguish between recent (HIV seroconversion in the last 6 months, on average) and non-recent HIV infection and provide results within minutes. These data may be linked to HIV case-based surveillance for ongoing epidemic monitoring and used by programs to provide enhanced counselling for immediate ART initiation, prioritize index testing, and intervene to prevent HIV transmission. This NOFO will require a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in surveillance, laboratory, prevention, HIV testing services, health informatics, data management, data analytics, and supply chain to support the planning, implementation, and impact evaluation of this PEPFAR priority activity.

To that end, NCTM is accepting applications to its Connecting Mathematics to Other Subject Areas Grants for Grades 9-12 Teachers program, which supports senior high classroom materials or lessons that connect mathematics to other areas of study. This seeks applications for the optimization of existing and emerging technologies and approaches that have potential to address major challenges associated with recording and manipulating neural activity, at or near cellular resolution, at multiple spatial and temporal scales, in any region and throughout the entire depth of the brain. This FOA is intended for the iterative refinement of emergent technologies and approaches that have already demonstrated their transformative potential through initial proof-of-concept testing, and are appropriate for accelerated development of hardware and software while scaling manufacturing techniques towards sustainable, broad dissemination and user-friendly incorporation into regular neuroscience practice. Proposed technologies should be compatible with experiments in behaving animals, and should include advancements that enable or reduce major barriers to hypothesis-driven experiments. Technologies may engage diverse types of signaling beyond neuronal electrical activity for large-scale analysis, and may utilize any modality such as optical, electrical, magnetic, acoustic or genetic recording/manipulation. Applications that seek to integrate multiple approaches are encouraged. Applications are expected to integrate appropriate domains of expertise, including where appropriate biological, chemical and physical sciences, engineering, computational modeling and statistical analysis.

    The NIDCR-funded FaceBase data repository and knowledgebase (www.facebase.org) was established to advance craniofacial research by creating comprehensive datasets on craniofacial development and dysmorphologies and disseminating them to the wider craniofacial research community. Since FaceBase's inception, the data management and integration hub has been charged with the critical functions of collecting datasets and analytic tools developed by dataset-generating spoke projects, curating and integrating those resources, and disseminating them. This Request for Applications (RFA) is a limited competition for renewal applications for the Data Management and Integration Hub. As in the past, the FaceBase 3 hub will continue to be responsible for integration and presentation of existing FaceBase datasets, development or adoption of new approaches for data search and visualization, and outreach to the wider craniofacial research community. In addition, the hub will assume an important new mission that of working with investigators within the craniofacial research community to make their datasets compatible with FaceBase's data models, curating and integrating these new datasets with those already held by FaceBase.
