The major aim of the DMS Infrastructure Program is to foster the continuing health of the mathematical sciences research community as a whole. Hence, the program supports projects that positively influence the entire community, most often those cutting across multiple sub-disciplines. Activities funded include working research sessions, such as conferences and symposia, as well as larger initiatives focused on enhancing and developing the mathematical sciences at the national scale. In addition, the Infrastructure Program will support a limited number of unsolicited training projects aimed at the undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral levels that include a core mathematical sciences research component for trainees. The Infrastructure Program seeks to fund novel projects that can have a large impact by promoting partnerships, broadening participation, and/or serving as models to be replicated.

This funding allows the Stakeholder Partnerships, Education and Communication (SPEC)organization within the IRS to provide grants to partner organizations to achieve the following program objectives:* Enable the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program to extend services to underserved populations in hardest-to-reach areas, both urban and non-urban;* Increase the capacity to file returns electronically;* Heighten quality control;* Enhance training of volunteers; and* Improve significantly the accuracy rate of returns prepared at VITA sites. The VITA Grant program supplements the work already being done in the VITA Program by providing support to help organizations grow their existing programs for free federal tax return preparation.

The Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Program offers FREE tax help to individuals who are age 60 or older. Section 163 of the Revenue Act of 1978, Public Law No. 95-600, 92 Stat. 2810, November 6, 1978, authorizes this cooperative agreement. The Act authorizes the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to enter into agreements with private or public nonprofit agencies and organizations, which will provide training and technical assistance to volunteers who provide FREE tax counseling and assistance to elderly individuals in the preparation of their federal income tax returns. This Act authorizes an appropriation of special funds, in the form of grants, to provide tax assistance to persons age 60 years of age or older. The IRS receives the funds as a line item in the budget appropriation. The total funds are distributed to the grant recipients for their expenses.

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is accepting applications to its Equity in Mathematics grant program from classroom teachers in grades 6-8. The purpose of the grant program is to help teachers incorporate middle school classroom materials or lessons that boost the achievement of students with a previous record of underachievement into their classrooms. Grants of up to $8,000 will be awarded to persons currently teaching math in grades 6-12, and proposals must address the following: the mathematics content as defined in NCTM's Principles and Standards for School Mathematics; the plan for improving achievement of the targeted students; and the anticipated impact on students' achievement. To be eligible, applicants must be a current full individual or E-member of NCTM or teach at a school with a current NCTM PreK-8 school membership and currently teach mathematics in grades 6-8 at least 50 percent of the school day.

The National Science Foundation's (NSF's) Directorates for Computer & Information Science & Engineering (CISE) and Mathematical & Physical Sciences (MPS) recently launched the Transdisciplinary Research in Principles of Data Science (TRIPODS) Phase I program with the goal of promoting long-term, interdisciplinary research and training activities that engage theoretical computer scientists, statisticians, and mathematicians in developing the theoretical foundations of data science. Twelve TRIPODS Phase I Institutes were established in FY17 (see https://www.nsf.gov/news/news_summ.jsp?cntn_id=242888). The Partnerships between Science and Engineering Fields and the NSF TRIPODS Institutes (TRIPODS + X) solicitation seeks to expand the scope of the TRIPODS program beyond the foundations community by engaging researchers across other NSF disciplines and the TRIPODS research teams in collaborative activities. TRIPODS + X projects will foster relationships between researchers in science & engineering domains and foundational data scientists by leveraging existing NSF investments in the TRIPODS organizations. Working in concert with a TRIPODS organization, a TRIPODS + X project would focus on data-driven research challenges motivated by applications in one or more science and engineering domains or other activities aimed at building robust data science communities.

The Toshiba America Foundation is accepting applications from teachers in grades 6-12 who are passionate about making science and math more engaging for their students. Proposals for grants of up to $5,000 or less will be accepted on a rolling basis. However, the foundation considers larger grants twice a year - on August 1 and February 1. Summer projects or afterschool programs will not be considered, nor will grant proposals for salaries, facility maintenance, the purchase of textbooks, video production, audio-visual equipment (e.g., electronic whiteboards, Smartboards, document projectors, student response systems), and education research.

This FOA will support projects to assemble diverse big data sources, conduct robust and reproducible analyses, and create meaningful visualizations of big data, as well as, engage ethical experts where appropriate to ensure the development of this scientific area is guided by ethical principles.

With the support of the Air Force Research Laboratory, Indiana University is hosting a forum for the U.S. Air Force and its research community to learn about innovative science ideas that have the potential to fulfill the goals of the USAF 2030 Initiative. We are reaching across six regional states to draw together faculty, research staff, and technology transfer personnel from institutions of higher education, along with industry research and development professionals. We seek to engage Air Force leadership around cutting-edge research ideas to apply toward the goals of the Air Superiority 2030 Flight Plan.

Cultivating Cultures for Ethical STEM (CCE STEM) funds research projects that identify (1) factors that are effective in the formation of ethical STEM researchers and (2) approaches to developing those factors in all the fields of science and engineering that NSF supports. CCE STEM solicits proposals for research that explores the following: 'What constitutes responsible conduct for research (RCR), and which cultural and institutional contexts promote ethical STEM research and practice and why?' Factors one might consider include: honor codes, professional ethics codes and licensing requirements, an ethic of service and/or service learning, life-long learning requirements, curricula or memberships in organizations (e.g. Engineers without Borders) that stress responsible conduct for research, institutions that serve under-represented groups, institutions where academic and research integrity are cultivated at multiple levels, institutions that cultivate ethics across the curriculum, or programs that promote group work, or do not grade. Do certain labs have a 'culture of academic integrity'? What practices contribute to the establishment and maintenance of ethical cultures and how can these practices be transferred, extended to, and integrated into other research and learning settings?

The BIGDATA program seeks novel approaches in computer science, statistics, computational science, and mathematics leading towards the further development of the interdisciplinary field of data science. The program also seeks innovative applications in domain science, including social and behavioral sciences, education, physical sciences, and engineering, where data science and the availability of big data are creating new opportunities for research and insights not previously possible.

What we will consider funding: Innovative ideas for improving measurement of coverage and equity data for use by program staff and managers. Specifically, their ability to collect and deliver the right data at the right time to the appropriate audiences would benefit from: Incorporating advances in technology to support decision makers in planning and executing program strategies Integration of immunization data systems, as well as the ability to address data use demands from multiple stakeholders. Enabling a culture that supports data quality and use e.g. provides feedback on data at multiple levels. Alignment of incentives to promote reporting of accurate data above coverage estimates. Innovations in process efficiency toward improved service delivery. These may stem from lean healthcare, or other approaches, but should have the end goal of improving the experience of healthcare workers, caregivers, or both.

The Global Engagement Center (GEC), an interagency entity within the U.S. Department of State, invites organizations that can implement programming to counter foreign state and non-state propaganda and disinformation efforts aimed at undermining United States national security interests to submit applications by April 11, 2018. All submissions or applications will be reviewed against the evaluation criteria outlined below. GEC expects to make multiple awards with a floor of $200,000 and a ceiling of $500,000 for each, constituting a planned total award volume of approximately $5,000,000. GEC reserves the right to award more or less funding or no funding at all as it deems in the best interest of the government. U.S.-based and foreign non-profit and non-governmental organizations (NGO), public international organizations (PIO), media outlets, for-profit entities, and institutions of higher education are eligible to apply by submitting an application as described in this announcement.

The Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) of the SC, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), hereby invites applications for basic research that address fundamental challenges within DOE's mission areas of energy, environment and security, and from a perspective that requires new integrated efforts across multiple mathematical, statistical and computational disciplines. This solicitation is for new Mathematical Multifaceted Integrated Capability Centers (MMICCs) to enable greatly enhanced scientific discovery, design, optimization or decision-support capabilities for the increasingly complex systems, processes, and problems that arise in science and energy research. Proposed research tightly focused on the solution of a particular science or engineering problem are outside the scope of this solicitation.These MMICCs will enable applied mathematics researchers to work together in large, collaborative teams to develop the mathematics needed to address significant scientific computing research challenges. The MMICCs allow researchers to take a broader view of the problem as a whole, and devise solution strategies that attack the problem in its entirety by building fundamental, multidisciplinary mathematical capabilities and tools cognizant of both existing and emerging computing paradigms. The MMICCs teams will have the flexibility and technical expertise to consider all aspects of the problem-solving process simultaneously - ranging from the mathematical formulation to the development, analysis, integration of appropriate models and methods, and demonstration of results and capabilities.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to promote initial establishment of basic science-clinical collaborations by providing small grants to teams of basic scientists, physician scientists, and/or clinicians. These interdisciplinary teams may include but are not limited to the following: developmental biologists, cell biologists, geneticists, genomicists, physician scientists including individuals with DVM/VMD degrees, clinicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and/or bioinformaticists.

The purpose of this project is to develop, test, and improve survey and data collection instruments and methodologies for OJJDP’s corrections data collections, the Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement (CJRP) and the Juvenile Residential Facility Census (JRFC).

The program in Foundations supports research in mathematical logic and the foundations of mathematics, including proof theory, recursion theory, model theory, set theory, and infinitary combinatorics. Conferences Principal Investigators should carefully read the program solicitation "Conferences and Workshops in the Mathematical Sciences" (link below) to obtain important information regarding the substance of proposals for conferences, workshops, summer/winter schools, and similar activities. Conference and workshop proposals should be submitted eight months before the requested start date.

The Statistics Program supports research in statistical theory and methods, including research in statistical methods for applications to any domain of science and engineering. The theory forms the base for statistical science. The methods are used for stochastic modeling, and the collection, analysis and interpretation of data. The methods characterize uncertainty in the data and facilitate advancement in science and engineering. The Program encourages proposals ranging from single-investigator projects to interdisciplinary team projects.

The Mathematical Biology Program supports research in areas of applied and computationalmathematics with relevance to the biological sciences. Successful proposals are mathematically innovative and address challenging problems of interest to members of the biological community. Some projects of interest to the Mathematical Biology Program may include development of mathematical concepts and tools traditionally seen in other disciplinary programs within the Division of Mathematical Sciences, e.g., topology, probability, statistics, computational mathematics, etc. To receive appropriate and timely review, such proposals should be submitted directly to the relevant disciplinary program that has the earliest deadline, with other program(s) selected as secondary. Note that proposals that use established mathematical and computational tools to address problems in the biological sciences are typically not appropriate for submission to DMS. In general, if a proposal is appropriate for review by more than one NSF program, it is advisable to contact the program officers handling each program to determine when the proposal should be submitted and to facilitate the review process.
