As part of broader university-wide diversity and inclusion efforts, the Office of the President and the Office for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship (OARS) have issued a special call for proposals to conduct research, scholarship, or creative activities in the areas of social justice, human rights, diversity, and inclusion. Proposals may be submitted in any of these areas, but must address a scholarly question that will lead to testable objectives or measurable outcomes.

Indiana University's African Studies Program invites applications for a short-term residency to conduct research in IU's Libraries/African Studies Collections. Indiana University's African Studies Collection ranks among the top tier of such collections in the U.S. It comprises more than 150,000 volumes of monographs and over 700 serial subscriptions as well as materials in other formats (e.g. posters, slides, film/video, audio tapes, etc). The focus of the collection is on the humanities and social sciences, supporting a wide range of students and faculty in such departments as history, anthropology, fine arts, theatre & drama, literature, folklore, ethnomusicology, communication and culture, linguistics, religious studies, education, political science, business, economics, journalism, and applied health science. This residency is intended for faculty members at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or at other U.S. colleges / universities with limited Africa collections, to conduct research in Indiana University's libraries and special collections in support of curriculum development or publications. The successful applicant will receive an award that covers domestic travel, accommodations in Bloomington, and a modest per diem for up to two weeks of research. The award will cover expenses up to a maximum of $2,000 and must be used before August 01, 2014. The recipient is expected to reside in Bloomington during the period of her/his award.

To be considered, a project proposal should include:   ·    R&D cooperation between two companies or cooperation between a company and a university/research institution (one from the U.S. and one from Israel). ·       Innovation in areas such as: Solar Power, Alternative Fuels, Advanced Vehicle Technologies, Smart Grid, Water-Energy Nexus, Wind Energy or any other Renewable Energy/Energy Efficiency technology. ·       Significant commercial potential; the project outcome should lead to commercialization.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits applications to address implementation questions facing World Bank designated low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in their efforts to scale up sustainable, evidence-based mental health interventions and thereby eliminate the mental health care treatment gap for children, women, and men. The mental health treatment gap refers to the proportion of persons who need, but do not receive care. Each awarded project is to conduct implementation research and research capacity-building activities in LMICs in any one of the following geographical regions: East Asia and the Pacific; Europe and Central Asia; Latin America and the Caribbean; Middle East and North Africa; South Asia; Sub-Saharan Africa. As a group, awardees will constitute a network for mental health implementation research in LMICs with capabilities for answering research questions about going to scale with mental health interventions, sustaining high-quality mental health care in resource-limited settings, and fostering evidence-based mental health policy and program development on an ongoing basis. This program is not intended to support research that can be conducted primarily in and/or by United States or other high income country institutions.

The purpose of the "Civil Society: Mutual Accountability Project" is to strengthen the enabling environment for Nepali civil society and media, enhance the capacity of Nepali Civil Society Organizations (CSO) to collaboratively and constructively engage in policy advocacy, and support broad-based, cross-sectoral initiatives that monitor, report, and demand greater effectiveness and accountability in governance and public service delivery.

The goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to facilitate the planning, designing and initial research focus of Regional Centers of Research Excellence (RCRE) for non-communicable disease, including cancer, in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). Activities in this FOA will be implemented through collaborative partnerships between investigators from institutions in high-income countries (HICs) or upper- middle-income countries (UMICs) and investigators, research administrators, and other stakeholders from LMICs. 

The goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to facilitate the planning, designing and initial research focus of Regional Centers of Research Excellence (RCRE) for non-communicable disease, including cancer, in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). 

This challenge focuses on innovations in vaccine manufacturing platforms designed to lower production cost for vaccines that target diseases of great global burden and that are among the most costly to produce with current technologies. The vaccines should target one of the following diseases: human papillomavirus vaccine; inactivated poliovirus vaccine; measles-rubella vaccine; pentavalent vaccine (diphtheria, tetanus, whole-cell pertussis, hepatitis B, Hib); pneumococcal vaccine; or rotavirus vaccine. The target production cost of ≤ $0.15 per dose should represent the fully-loaded cost, which ensures that all relevant costs are accounted for.

The USAID/Ghana Democracy Rights and Governance (DRG) and Economic Growth Offices' new cross sectoral governance project seeks to accelerate governance improvements and manage conflict in support of enhanced agricultural development in Ghana's Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions. The purpose of the activity is to increase the capacity of Ghana's decentralized agricultural structures at the regional and district levels, improve accountability and performance efficiency of these decentralized agricultural structures, build community consensus, and strengthen civil society's demand for better service delivery in agriculture in partnership with the private sector.

The project will empower citizens of the Guatemalan Western Highlands to identify and address their own development needs. Through a rigorous community-based development (CBD) approach, the project will strengthen the voices of underrepresented groups (including women, poor, indigenous, youth, and others) and actively engage community members as participants and leaders in the full cycle of design, management, and evaluation of development activities. The project will work to dismantle the social, cultural, and historical divides that have marginalized indigenous Mayans in the Western Highlands.

The National Marine Fisheries Service Southeast Region (Fisheries Southeast Regional Office) is seeking proposals under the Gulf of Mexico B-WET Program. The Gulf of Mexico B-WET program is a competitive, environmental education, grants program that promotes locally relevant, experiential learning in the K-12 environment. Funded projects provide Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs) for students, related professional development for teachers, and help to support regional education and environmental priorities in the Gulf of Mexico. 

The Study of the U.S. Branch, Office of Academic Exchange Programs, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), invites proposal submissions for the design and implementation of five different Study of the U.S. Institutes for Scholars and Secondary Educators to take place over the course of five to six weeks at U.S. academic institutions beginning in June 2016, pending the availability of FY 2016 funds. These Institutes should provide multinational groups of experienced foreign university educators, scholars, teachers, and other professionals with a deeper understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions. Four of these Institutes will be for groups of 18 foreign university level faculty, focusing on the themes of Journalism and Media, U.S. Culture and Society, U.S. Foreign Policy, and U.S. National Security Policymaking, each with a total duration of six weeks.

The Professional Fellows Program is a two-way, global exchange program designed to enhance leadership and professional skills, and build lasting and sustainable partnerships between mid-level emerging leaders from foreign countries and the United States. The defining program activity for 250 foreign participants is a substantive five-week U.S.-based fellowship, including an individualized placement in a U.S. workplace, complemented by collaborative programming with American outbound participants in the foreign participant's home country.

The Kennan Institute seeks fellowship applicants from diverse, policy-oriented sectors such as media, business, local government, law, civil society, and academia to examine important political, social, economic, cultural, and historical issues in Russia, Ukraine, and the region. Among the aims of the new fellowships are to build bridges between traditional academia and the policy world, as well as to maintain and increase collaboration among researchers from Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S.

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi (PAS New Delhi) seeks proposals for a project entitled "Leadership through Sports for Jammu and Kashmir." The project, a week-long workshop for local community leaders in the sports field from Jammu and Kashmir, will share best practices on how to build sports and leadership programs in underserved communities. The grantee will identify five American sports mentors/coaches (three female and two male) and bring them to New Delhi to implement the week-long program for 20 local coaches, school administrators, sports association leaders and sports administrators, at least half of whom are female. The American sports mentors/coaches should have experience working with disadvantaged/underserved populations on sports programs, and will focus on building capacity in sports and leadership program development. Upon completion of the week-long workshop, the grantee will organize and oversee a six-month virtual mentoring program between the American sports mentors/coaches and the participants. The Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) will provide Federal assistance to support innovative projects seeking to promote and ensure the inclusion and use of minority enterprises. This Announcement is a mechanism to encourage new activities, education, outreach, innovative projects or sponsorships that are not addressed through other MBDA programs. MBDA has established key priorities designed to overcome the unique challenges faced by minority business enterprises (MBEs). MBDA is now initiating new approaches to serve MBEs that compliment Presidential priorities and U.S. Department of Commerce goals. The purpose of the Health Workforce Improvement Program (HWIP) is to address critical human resources challenges in Ethiopia's health sector. The program will build on the work carried out under the Strengthening Human Resources for Health (HRH) Cooperative Agreement (AID-663-A-12-00008) that was awarded to Jhpiego in 2012. The Health Workforce Improvement Program will work with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MOSHE) at the national level and their respective structures at the sub-national levels (regional, zonal and woreda levels), Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) levels that provide healthcare education at national and sub-national, and targeted health worker professional associations to improve the quality of Ethiopia's health workforce. The focus areas of this Activity are: 1. Institutional and individual capacity building to improve the quality of pre-service education for priority clinical cadres to improve the competency of clinical health workers, 2. Improve the human resource for health management and regulation capacity of national and sub-national entities. The program will target program managers at MOH, Regional Health Bureau (RHB) and District Health Office; and faculty at HEIs, building their leadership, management and governance capacity for human resource development and management. 3. Improve the generation and utilization of evidence to inform HR planning, development and management

The workshop will bring together 40 young leaders (ages 20-35) from the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) network, from all ten ASEAN Member States (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.) Under the theme "A Generation of Advocates - Developing Issue-based Campaigns", the workshop will provide participants with digital literacy and communications skills, as well as skills to develop issue-based campaigns on transnational crime and security. Upon returning to their home countries, participants will implement follow-on projects using the skills they learned during the workshop. Eligibility for this NOFO is limited to not-for-profit organizations and social enterprises.
