The program is a two-part initiative designed to foster new connections between scholars and journalists covering international affairs. To that end, it offers an interrelated set of awards, including programming grants for universities and fellowships for scholars in the humanities and social sciences who study religion in international contexts.

The annual program awards grants of up to $5,000 to support generative research collaborations between and among scholars located in different geographical regions who wish to pursue focused, joint projects in any area of the study of religion. Preference will be given to creative projects grounded in international research relationships that bring together scholars from disparate backgrounds and methodological approaches to advance critical research on and understanding of religious traditions, practices, and issues. Grant funding may be used for a variety of project expenses. Junior as well as more established scholars are encouraged to apply, as are independent scholars.

SEFER Center awards grants to support research projects in multiple disciplines on Russian Jewry. The subject of the research may comprise different aspects of Jewish history and culture within the territory of former Russian Empire during various historical periods from the ancient times till post-soviet contemporary period. The grant covers the entire variety of humanitarian and social areas (history, literature, linguistics, art history, education, philosophy, religion studies, sociology, political science etc.), as well as interdisciplinary studies. The Center provides researchers, teachers and PhD students with financial support for implementation of academic researches, preparation of monographs, articles and dissertation theses. The grant program is intended for researches from Russia and abroad, including Europe, USA and Canada, Israel and Australia.

The research remit of the BIAA covers Turkey and the Black Sea. BIAA research engages with Turkey as a crossroads, Turkey's interactions with the Black Sea region and its other neighbours as well as Turkey as a distinctive creative and cultural hub in a global and neighbourhood perspective. The overall focus of applications should be on History, Society and Culture. The BIAA has primary experience and resources, including a first-class library in Ankara, as an archaeological and historical research centre. It prioritizes research projects with a historical dimension, even when the prime focus is on contemporary Turkey or climate issues. In line with the mission of the BIAA as a centre of excellence for archaeological research, substantial funds will be set aside for selected field projects running over a number of years. Currently three or four projects of this type are supported. Applications for funding should fit within the five Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI) which define the current shape of BIAA research policy: * Climate and its historical and current impact * Migration, Minorities and regional identities * Religion and politics in historical perspective * Habitat and Settlement in prehistoric, historical and environmental perspective * Cultural heritage, society and the economy Proposals may relate to all historical periods up to contemporary Turkey.

MA, MRes and PhD scholarships, School of History and Anthropology, Queen's University Belfast Deadline: 17 February 2014 The School of History and Anthropology, Queen's University Belfast, is one of the leading schools for historical and anthropological study in the UK and Ireland. Anthropology is listed in the UK top ten in the Guardian (2013), while History is listed in the global top 100 in the QS World Rankings (2013). The School is offering scholarships for highly qualified students beginning its MA, MRes and PhD programmes in September 2014. The Center for Cultural Diplomacy Studies (of the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy) offers educational and professional development opportunities for individuals interested in pursuing further education and careers in academia, diplomacy, government, and/or the private sector. The CCDS focuses in particular on exploring the  balance between hard and soft power, the process of globalization in an interdependent world, international economics & business multiculturalism, intercultural dialogue & exchange, human rights, religion, and the ability for culturally based initiatives to further mutual understanding and in turn to foster global peace and stability.

Through the program, the foundation awards travel grants of up to $20,000 over an academic year to individual scholars for historical research on Venice and the former Venetian empire and for the study of contemporary Venetian society and culture. Disciplines of the humanities and social sciences eligible for consideration include but are not limited to archaeology, architecture, art, bibliography, economics, history, history of science, law, literature, music, political science, religion, and theater.

Travel grants of up to $2,500 are available to support research between August 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020 in the Special and Area Studies Collections of University of Florida. Proposals are due Friday, May 17, 2019, with award notifications expected to be made the week of June 17, 2019. Evaluation criteria include interdisciplinarity, use of more than one collection, and a tangible publication or scholarly outcome. Awardees must travel 100 miles or farther to be eligible. Grants are available for research in any of the department's collections and must be used for onsite research. A principal goal of U.S. assistance in Cuba is to empower Cuban civil society to demand effective democracy and respect for human dignity. To promote a peaceful transition to self-determined democracy on the island, U.S. assistance programs focus on providing humanitarian assistance to victims of repression, strengthening civil society, weakening the information blockade, and helping Cubans to create space for dialogue about democratic change and reconciliation. To encourage civic participation in Cuba, the U.S. program focuses on strengthening independent Cuban civil society groups, including professional associations and labor groups. Efforts are aimed at increasing the capacity for community involvement in, and networks among, civil society groups. The United States supports information sharing to, from, and within Cuba, including among civil society groups on the island. In an effort to advocate for human rights, enable expression of political and religious beliefs, and address community needs, civil society leaders create and maintain organized groups that will support a range of their concerns and interests. These associations contribute to an expanding public sphere and discourse in Cuba that includes political and non-political advocacy, youth empowerment, human rights, free press, art, religion, gender and sexuality, among other local issues. The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that support Religious Freedom globally. "Religious freedom" refers to the right set out in Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, including the freedom to adopt a religion or beliefs, change your beliefs, practice and teach your beliefs (which may include through publications, public and private speech, and the display of religious attire or symbols), gather in community with others to worship and observe your beliefs, and teach your beliefs to your children. Proposed programming must be responsive to restrictions on religious freedom and must be in line with the U.S. Government's religious freedom, democracy, governance, and human rights goals. Applicants will be responsible for ensuring program activities and products are implemented in accordance with the Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution. DRL programming will engage youth to foster an environment of greater inter-communal and intra-communal respect and peaceful coexistence among religious communities in Pakistan promoting the rights of all people to live free from discrimination, abuse, and violence on account of their religious identity, practices, or affiliation. Proposals should be gender inclusive and include religious minorities.

The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) in support of its objective to (insert larger bureau goal/objective), announces an open competition for a program which aims to respond to evolving opportunities and threats to the protection and advancement of the fundamental freedoms of association, assembly, expression, and religion.
