    The Mountain Societies Research Institute (MSRI) is a university-wide, interdisciplinary research center dedicated to addressing the challenges and opportunities within Central Asian mountain communities and environments. MSRI's goal is to support and enhance the resilience and quality of life of mountain societies through the generation and application of sound research. The Institutes should take place in the fall of 2018 and spring of 2019, pending the availability of FY 2018 funds. The YSEALI Academic Fellowship will provide up to approximately 250 undergraduate and recent graduates from throughout Southeast Asia with a foundation in one of three themes: Civic Engagement, Environmental Issues and Natural Resource Management, and Social Entrepreneurship and Economic Development. More information on the themes can be found in A.2. Institute Themes, in the Notice of Funding Opportunity. It is ECA's intent to award up to three Cooperative Agreements for the administration of up to twelve FY 2018 YSEALI Academic Fellowship Institutes.

    The Office of Citizen Exchanges, Youth Programs Division, of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announces an open competition for the Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program, pending the availability of FY 2014 funding. Public and private non-profit organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501c3, including accredited, post-secondary U.S. educational institutions, may submit proposals to provide a three-week, U.S.-based youth leadership program in April, 2014 for 60 youth and educators from the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The activities will focus on civic education, leadership, diversity, and community engagement and address ways youth can unite around their common goals. Support for individual or small group follow-on projects in the home communities of the exchange alumni will complete the program. It is the Bureau?s intent to award one cooperative agreeme nt for one base year plus two option years for an estimated total amount of $1,470,000.

The aim of the program is to build enduring partnership between the U.S. and Asia through the training of future Chinese academics and to encourage long-term collaborations between the two regions. The YSEALI Regional Workshop on "Future Workforce" in Singapore will help Southeast Asia strengthen economic development capacity by preparing their workforce to adapt to the needs of future job demands and highlight the value of U.S. companies in driving technology and innovation. Over the course of three days, workshop participants will gain the knowledge, skills, and resilience to ensure their enterprises remain viable into the future. The workshop will develop participants' leadership competencies in strategies for meeting the digital future, critical thinking skills required to adapt quickly, and upskilling/reskilling their workforce.
