The Botstiber Institute for Austrian-American Studies (BIAAS) is accepting applications for the Botstiber Fellowship in Austrian-American Studies. The fellowship will be awarded to a scholar or professional who seeks funds for a project that promotes an understanding of the historic relationship between Austria and the United States. A grant of up to $30,000 will be considered for support for salary, travel, or other necessary expenses. Applications from (i) graduate students, (ii) early-career professionals and (iii) mid-career professionals will be accepted. Fellowship applications must be submitted by March 31, 2014. Applicants will be notified of the result of their applications in June 2014.

The Woolf Institute in Cambridge, UK, has been dedicated to the provision of graduate and postgraduate study for more than 15 years. In partnership with the Cambridge Commonwealth, European and International Trust, the Woolf Institute established the Woolf Institute Cambridge Scholarships. These scholarships are intended to support outstanding research students at the University of Cambridge who have the potential to become exceptional leaders of the future.  Scholars will be selected from amongst applicants in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Their research must be relevant to the focus of the Woolf Institute - the multi-disciplinary study of relations between Jews, Christians and Muslims.

The Myer and Rosaline Feinstein Center for American Jewish History announces a new fellowship, the Frederic Fox Memorial Summer Fellowship, to support pre- and post-doctoral researchers' use of the Philadelphia Jewish Archives Collections in the Special Collections Research Center, Temple University Libraries. While the grant is for research that primarily uses the Philadelphia Jewish Archives Collections, applicants are encouraged to explore other Temple University resources in the Special Collections Research Center as well. Grantees are required to spend a minimum of one month at the SCRC facility over the course of the year.  Graduate students or recent Ph.D. graduates are eligible to apply for a grant of $2,000.  Smaller grants may also be awarded to help defray research expenses.

Submissions are being accepted for the Annals of Science best paper prize 2014. This prize is awarded annually to the author of an original, unpublished essay in the history of science or technology, which is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. The prize, which is supported by Taylor & Francis, is intended for those who are currently doctoral students, or have been awarded their doctorate within the past four years.

Academic scholars (including graduate students), independent scholars and professional and non-professional writers are encouraged to apply. Awards would provide a maximum of $1,000 and can be used to offset travel expenses and other research related activities excluding large equipment purchases. The applicant should state clearly the research topic and chronological period to be covered in the study. In addition, the applicant should state whether the research project is for a degree program or a manuscript being prepared for publication. The grant is designed to promote interest in the prisoner of war experience and encourage scholarly research which leads to documentation of the prisoner of war experience in a variety of media including theses, publications and audiovisual productions. Especially encouraged are projects that cover subjects not well represented in the published record. This includes an administrative history of the park from the Civil War to the present, prisoners of war during early conflicts in American history, individual prisoner of war camps and the experiences of minorities as prisoners of war.Subject matter can also extend to relevant aspects of the prisoner of war experience, such as the families of POWs and the guards at prisoner of war camps.

The Virginia Center for Civil War Studies and Virginia Tech's Special Collections invite applications for the 2014-15 Virginia Center for Civil War Studies Research Grants. Each grant recipient will visit Virginia Tech's Special Collections in order to conduct research on some aspect of the American Civil War era. An honorarium of $100 per business day will be provided, up to a maximum of $1,000. Recipients will also have the opportunity to give an informal presentation on their projects during their visit. Graduate students, faculty members, and independent scholars are all eligible.

The Mining History Association (MHA) Research Grant Program is open to all who are currently engaged in or who plan to conduct mining history research, including graduate students, academic scholars, public sector professionals in related disciplines, independent scholars, writers, and educators. Research may focus on technology, business, social and cultural life, the environment, or any other aspect of mining, its associated industries, and its communities. The MHA does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, age, national origin, sexual orientation or disability. Funds are awarded on a competitive basis. The Grants Committee, at its discretion, may make up to two grants per year. Funding may vary, up to a maximum of $750 per grant.

The Schlesinger Library offers small grants to aid those needing to use the library's holdings. Research Support Grants are available to postdoctoral and independent scholars. Dissertation Grants are available for students enrolled in relevant doctoral programs, who must have completed doctoral course work and have the dissertation topic approved by the application deadline. Oral history grants are offered to support new oral history interviews.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Historical Society of the Episcopal Church, travel reimbursement grants are available to individuals who would like to use the African American Episcopal Historical Collection (AAEHC) for research. Faculty, graduate students, undergraduates, independent researchers, and Episcopal clergy and laypersons are encouraged to apply. Funds may be used for transportation, meals, lodging, photocopying, and other research costs.

We are looking for students and scholars to submit original, unpublished article-length essays (maximum 10,000 words plus endnotes) that explore the place of family, both literal and rhetorical, in shaping the historical lived experiences of people with disabilities and the history of concepts of disability itself.

Intensive and demanding, the Humanity in Action Fellowship brings together international groups of college students and recent graduates to explore national histories of discrimination and resistance-including the political foundations of racial hierarchies, Antisemitism, Islamophobia and colonial domination-as they affect different minority groups today. The Fellowship seeks to educate, connect and inspire the world's future leaders in the fields of human rights and social justice. 

The M. Louise Carpenter Gloeckner, M.D. Summer Research Fellowship is offered annually by the Drexel University College of Medicine Archives and Special Collections on Women in Medicine. A $4,000 stipend is awarded to one applicant for research completed in residence at the Archives and Special Collections. The term of the fellowship is no less than four to six weeks to begin on or after June 1. The deadline for applications is March 1, annually. A short essay summarizing research findings is required upon completion of the fellowship. This essay may be published in a University publication or online via the Archives website. This fellowship was established in memory of M. Louise Carpenter Gloeckner, M.D. by her husband Frederick Gloeckner in recognition of her key leadership role in the medical profession. This is a competitive annual fellowship open to scholars, students and general researchers. In addition to materials related to the history of the Woman's Medical College/Medical College of Pennsylvania, the collections have particular strengths in the history of women in medicine, nursing, medical missionaries, the American Medical Women's Association, American Women's Hospital Service, and other women in medicine organizations. The majority of the collections fall within the period 1850 to the present.

The Dibner Library of the History of Science and Technology Resident Scholar Program, supported by The Dibner Fund, awards stipends of $3,500.00 per month for up to six months for individuals working on a topic relating to the history of science and technology who can make substantial use of collections in the Dibner Library. Historians, librarians, doctoral students, and post-doctoral scholars are welcome to apply. Scholars must be in residence at the Dibner Library during the award period. Scholars wanting to do research in other areas of SI Libraries' Special Collections should apply for the Baird Society Resident Scholar Program.

The Baird Society Resident Scholar Program was established to support the study of some of SI Libraries' most unique and valuable holdings: its Special Collections. Stipends of $3,500 per month for up to six months are available for individuals working on a topic relating to these collections. Historians, librarians, doctoral students, and post-doctoral scholars are welcome to apply. Scholars must be in residence at the Smithsonian during the award period. While the Libraries' extensive general collections may be used to support scholars' research, the focus of their projects must center around Special Collections. To promote the use of collections housed at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Department of History and Geography is pleased to announce the Jamie Guilbeau and Thelma Guilbeau UL Lafayette Collections Research Grant in the amount of $2,000 for a researcher who is not a faculty member, staff member, or student at UL Lafayette. Applications should indicate promise of publication or reaching a broad audience in some other form and must require work in the collections of the University Archives and Acadiana Manuscripts Collections (http://library.louisiana.edu/Spec/policy_SAMC.shtml), the Ernest J. Gaines Center (http://library.louisiana.edu/Gaines/), the Cajun and Creole Music Collection (http://library.louisiana.edu/Spec/CCM/index.shtml), the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum (http://www.hilliardmuseum.org), the Center for Louisiana Studies (http://cls.louisiana.edu/Research-Division.shtml), or in other UL Lafayette collections. The grant is intended primarily to defray travel expenses, therefore preference will be given to researchers beyond commuting distance of UL Lafayette. Particular consideration will be given to applications that speak broadly to Louisiana and its history, heritage, cultures, and identities.

The Association for Computing Machinery History Committee is preparing groundwork for a special ACM history workshop in 2014. Aiming at the workshop, we will support research projects related to ACM's professional and educational activities and/or to ACM's rich institutional history including its organization, publications, SIG activities, and conferences. We may also consider support for wider synthetic projects, analyzing existing research on ACM and outlining themes to illuminate ACM's nearly seven-decade history. We will support up to four projects with awards of up to $4,000 each. Successful candidates may be of any rank, from graduate students through senior researchers. All awardees must be willing to present their work to a two-day ACM History Committee-sponsored workshop, to be held during the spring or early summer of 2014. Workshop travel, lodging, and meals will be paid by ACM History Committee, in addition to this project award.

The Osler Library of the History of Medicine of McGill University sponsors a travel grant designed to assist scholars who need to travel and establish temporary residence in Montreal in order to use the resources of the Library. The Library has the largest collection of rare and secondary material in medical history in Canada, manuscripts and archives of such notables as Sir William Osler, Wilder Penfield, Norman Bethune and Maude Abbott, medical ephemera and 2,500 medical prints. Our monographic, serials and ephemera holdings are listed in the McGill Library Catalogue. The grant is available to historians, physicians, graduate students and others interested in medical history. It carries an award of $1,500 (Canadian), and must be held for 2-4 weeks during calendar year 2012. $2,000 will be made available to those requiring 4 weeks to complete their research.

Travel bursaries are available to participate in this project, which uses Rachel Carson's 'Silent Spring' to explore the relationship between arts and science research through two workshops at the University of York and Birkbeck, London in 2013, the first at York on Friday 1st March 2013. We can offer a limited amount of bursaries for up to £50 (on provision of receipts) to post-graduates and early career researchers for travel to York. We welcome applications from students across the Humanities and Sciences and hope this will be a lively day full of discussion, inviting participants to share an informal five-minute summary of their work in a final roundtable.
