Each year, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center offers a limited number of research stipends for promising and established visiting western scholars in our fellowship program. Scholars research, write, and develop ideas and manuscripts that expand the horizon of western studies. Fellows may pursue field research in the Cody area (i.e., the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem or the Big Horn Basin and Mountains), or work in the collections of the McCracken Research Library or one of our museum galleries.

The Filson fellowships and internships encourage the scholarly use of our nationally significant collections by providing support for travel and lodging. Internships provide practical experience in collections management and research for graduate students. Fellows as well as interns are expected to be in continuous residence at The Filson. Application deadlines for all fellowships and internships are October 15th and February 15th each year (or the Monday following the 15th if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday). Applications are reviewed two times a year. The Society's collections are especially strong for the frontier, antebellum, and Civil War eras of Kentucky history. The fellowships are designed to encourage research in all aspects of the history of Kentucky and the regions of the Ohio Valley and the Upper South. Applicants should indicate how The Filson's collections are relevant to their research topics and will have the opportunity to present the results of their research to scholars and the general public as appropriate. The Filson anticipates that fellows will publicize the results of their research in Ohio Valley History, a peer-reviewed journal published jointly by The Filson, the Cincinnati Museum Center, and the University of Cincinnati.

The Reynolds Associates, in conjunction with the Historical Collections (HC) unit of the Lister Hill Library, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), are pleased to announce the availability of short-term awards of up to $1,000 to individual researchers studying one or more aspects of the history of the health sciences during the 2015 calendar year. Intended to support research using the HC unit as a historical resource, the fellowship requires the on-site use of at least one of the unit's three components, which are the Alabama Museum of the Health Sciences, Reynolds Historical Library and UAB Archives.

The U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) supports the preservation of cultural sites, cultural objects, and forms of traditional cultural expression in more than 100 developing countries around the world. AFCP-supported projects include the restoration of ancient and historic buildings, assessment and conservation of rare manuscripts and museum collections, preservation and protection of important archaeological sites, and the documentation of vanishing traditional craft techniques and indigenous languages.

The Association of Historians of American Art (AHAA) offers two grants of $500 each to defray College Art Association conference expenses, including transportation, housing, and registration fees, for presenting members. The first grant is for an ABD graduate student in American art history who is currently enrolled in a graduate program and will travel to CAA's annual conference to appear on the meeting program. The second grant is to support a contingent faculty member or museum staff person whose work engages with the art of the United States, does not have access to travel funds from their institution of employment, and will travel to CAA's annual conference to appear on the meeting program. Applications for Travel Grants are due by December 1 and must include a short cv and letter of interest. The letter should indicate which award is being applied for - Professional or Graduate Student - and must include the applicant's paper and session title as they appear on the CAA program. For the Professional award, applicants should also address their institutional affiliation. The two winners of the AHAA Travel Grant must be members of AHAA at the time of their application. All qualified candidates will be entered into a lottery and the winners selected at random. Applicants will be notified via email by December 15. Travel grants of up to $2,500 are available to support research between August 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020 in the Special and Area Studies Collections of University of Florida. Proposals are due Friday, May 17, 2019, with award notifications expected to be made the week of June 17, 2019. Evaluation criteria include interdisciplinarity, use of more than one collection, and a tangible publication or scholarly outcome. Awardees must travel 100 miles or farther to be eligible. Grants are available for research in any of the department's collections and must be used for onsite research. Working in conjunction with the U.S. Army, the Army Heritage Center Foundation seeks to leverage the efforts of the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, an educational resource, museum, library, and archive dedicated to safeguarding and making available to the public the tangible materials of soldiers during their time of service. To that end, the foundation is currently accepting applications for the Robert L. and Robert C. Ruth Fellowship program. Through the program, one graduate student will receive a research fellowship of $1,500 to engage in a three-week summer research program at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle, Pennsylvania Research topics need not be limited to military history and can include any subject with the potential to be supported by the vast material collection available at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center. Potential candidates must identify the resources they intend to use during their period of study and are encouraged to consult the online catalog.

The program awards grants for the digitization of important visual resources (especially photographic archives) in the area of pre-modern European art history and primary textual sources (especially the literary and documentary sources of European art history), as well as for promising initiatives in online publishing and for innovative experiments in the field of digital art history. The program does not typically support the digitization of museum object collections.

Through the program, grants will be awarded in support of projects that create and disseminate specialized knowledge, including archival projects, development and dissemination of scholarly databases, documentation projects, museum exhibitions and publications, photographic campaigns, scholarly catalogs and publications, and technical and scientific studies. The program also supports activities that permit art historians to share their expertise through international exchanges, professional meetings, conferences, symposia, consultations, the presentation of research, and other professional events.

The National Endowment for the Humanities offers the Dialogues on the Experience of War program as part of its current initiative, Standing Together: The Humanities and the Experience of War. The program supports the study and discussion of important humanities sources about war, in the belief that these sources can help U.S. military veterans and others think more deeply about the issues raised by war and military service. Although the program is primarily designed to reach military veterans, men and women in active service, military families, and interested members of the public may also participate. The program awards grants of up to $100,000 that will support * the convening of at least two discussion programs for no fewer than fifteen participants; and * the creation of a preparatory program to recruit and train program discussion leaders (NEH Discussion Leaders). Discussion programs may take place on college and university campuses, in veterans' centers, at public libraries and museums, and at other community venues.

"The Public Humanities Projects program supports projects that bring the ideas and insights of the humanities to life for general audiences through in-person programming.  Projects must engage humanities scholarship to analyze significant themes in disciplines such as history, literature, ethics, and art history. Public Humanities Projects supports projects in three program categories (Exhibitions, Historic Places, and Humanities Discussions), and at two funding levels (Planning and Implementation). Regardless of proposed activity, NEH encourages applicants to explore humanities ideas through multiple formats.  Proposed projects may include complementary components: for example, a museum exhibition might be accompanied by a website or mobile app. Small and mid-sized organizations are especially encouraged to apply.  We likewise welcome humanities projects tailored to particular groups, such as families, youth (including K-12 students in informal educational settings), underserved communities, and veterans. Applicants are advised to consider developing partnerships with other institutions, particularly organizations such as cultural alliances, broadcast media stations, cultural heritage centers, state humanities councils, veterans' centers, and libraries."

Grants from the National Trust for Historic Preservation's African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund are designed to advance ongoing preservation activities for historic places such as sites, museums, and landscapes representing African American cultural heritage. The fund supports work in four primary areas: Capital Projects, Organizational Capacity Building, Project Planning, and Programming and Interpretation.

The Baird Society Resident Scholar Program was established to support the study of some of SI Libraries' most unique and valuable holdings: its Special Collections. Stipends of $3,500 per month for up to six months are available for individuals working on a topic relating to these collections. Historians, librarians, doctoral students, and post-doctoral scholars are welcome to apply. Scholars must be in residence at the Smithsonian during the award period. While the Libraries' extensive general collections may be used to support scholars' research, the focus of their projects must center around Special Collections. The National Historical Publications and Records Commission seeks proposals that promote the preservation and use of the nation's most valuable archival resources. Projects should expand our understanding of the American past by facilitating and enhancing access to primary source materials. The Commission will support such activities as establishing archives programs, processing archival collections at the basic or detailed levels, surveying and accessioning archival records, and converting existing archival collection finding aids to new online formats.

The NPS is the lead federal agency assigned the principal responsibility for administering three federal historic documentation programs: the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), and the Historic American Landscape Survey (HALS). The documentation programs and their associated collections are among the largest and most heavily used in the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. The collections document achievements in architecture, engineering, and design in the United States and its territories through a comprehensive range of building types and engineering technologies.These federal documentation programs have recorded America's built environment in multi-format surveys comprising more than 556,900 measured drawings, large-format photographs, and written histories for more than 38,600 historic structures and sites dating from Pre-Columbian times to the twentieth century. Through this agreement, the NPS , Intermountain Region, is seeking to work with a cooperator to expand the documentation of heritage sites to include: producing 3D high definition digital documentation of resources through LiDAR scanning, photogrammetry and other state-of-the-art technologies, including 3D point clouds, 3D visualizations, 3D models, 3D reconstructions, 3D virtual tours and 3D animated fly-throughs; training and employing students to produce 3D digital documentation; developing educational and interpretive content associated with the 3D digital images; creating virtual learning opportunities through web-based applications for research; archiving and managing digital data in accordance with National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) standards; providing free access to the data via a website designed for use by the general public; and hosting and maintaining that website.
