    The Filson fellowships and internships encourage the scholarly use of our nationally significant collections by providing support for travel and lodging. Internships provide practical experience in collections management and research for graduate students. Fellows as well as interns are expected to be in continuous residence at The Filson. Application deadlines for all fellowships and internships are October 15th and February 15th each year (or the Monday following the 15th if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday). Applications are reviewed two times a year. The Society's collections are especially strong for the frontier, antebellum, and Civil War eras of Kentucky history. The fellowships are designed to encourage research in all aspects of the history of Kentucky and the regions of the Ohio Valley and the Upper South. Applicants should indicate how The Filson's collections are relevant to their research topics and will have the opportunity to present the results of their research to scholars and the general public as appropriate. The Filson anticipates that fellows will publicize the results of their research in Ohio Valley History, a peer-reviewed journal published jointly by The Filson, the Cincinnati Museum Center, and the University of Cincinnati.

    We are currently seeking two graduate interns to work closely with editors and other staff of the Civil War Governors of Kentucky Digital Documentary Edition (CWG-K). Through this competitive internship opportunity, successful candidates will learn the basic principles of documentary editing; assist in the identification, data collection, scanning, processing and transcription of manuscript documents; and gain expertise in the use of the CWG-K project document control-and-editorial-management application. As time allows, interns may have the opportunity to learn, acquire and exercise additional skills associated with documentary editing. The overall goal of the internship is to provide a high-quality, supervised professional practicum that introduces second-year and advanced American history graduate students to the field of documentary editing in order to enhance their education and future employability. Participating graduate students will gain a broad understanding of the goals of, planning for and skills necessary to undertake large documentary-editing projects, as well as what is involved in their daily operations. The internship will consist of 250 hours over the course of 10 weeks. This is a temporary position, with stipend, based in Frankfort, Ky. Employee benefits are not available. Housing is not provided.

    The explosion of the digital age has made it possible for students anywhere to take advantage of the unique opportunity to become part of this fascinating and rewarding project by completing an internship through the Theodore Roosevelt Center. Dedicated Center staff members mentor students and provide them with valuable experience prior to entering the workforce. Our interns are a vital part of our work here at the Theodore Roosevelt Center. They hail from all over and study in some of the best library science and history programs in the country. They help Center staff catalog items, review items, and conduct copyright research, and they provide valuable input into some of the ongoing projects of the Center. They have worked in every collection in the Theodore Roosevelt Digital Library to date. Internships are usually posted in the early spring, and students complete their work between May and August. These are remote internships. All work is done online, from the student's preferred location.

    The Vanishing Treasures (VT) Program proposes to partner with the University of Pennsylvaniaâ¿¿s Department of Historic Preservation to develop an internship opportunity for an emerging professional interested in enhancing his/her knowledge and experience in historic preservation. The intern will complete a special project in the area of preservation craft and technology or preservation pedagogy in order to fulfill internship requirements.

Grant Support for History M.A.T. and Residency in Los Angeles "Promise Zone" - 0 views

    Prospective history teachers interested in a grant supported alternative to Teach for America that extends the Liberal Arts and Humanities to underserved populations can apply now for a one-year Master of Arts in Teaching degree and California credential through Bard College in the Los Angeles "Promise Zone," a recently designated federal anti-poverty area.  Consistent with the mission of Bard College, all candidates spend the bulk of their coursework studying historical content, historiography, and discipline-specific history pedagogy. Admitted applicants will complete classes and internship residencies at Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA), a dynamic community organization on Wilshire Boulevard in a diverse, largely Latino community challenged by high rates of childhood poverty.  Bard graduate students are expected to participate fully in the intellectual life of the Bard-HOLA community and complete coursework in their fields while building meaningful educative relationships with middle and high school youth.  Programs are offered in literature, history, mathematics, biology. Program residents will graduate with a deeper understanding of their subject area discipline, a master's degree, a California credential, and a year of instructional experience in one of the nation's most ambitious, place-based anti-poverty initiatives.

    The application for the 2018 Boren Awards is now open at www.borenawards.org! Boren Awards fund U.S. undergraduate and graduate language study and research abroad in world regions critical to U.S. national interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East). The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. The Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 for undergraduate students for language‐focused study abroad. The Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 for graduate students to fund language study, graduate‐level research, and academic internships abroad.
