The application for the 2018 Boren Awards is now open at www.borenawards.org! Boren Awards fund U.S. undergraduate and graduate language study and research abroad in world regions critical to U.S. national interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East). The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. The Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 for undergraduate students for language‐focused study abroad. The Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 for graduate students to fund language study, graduate‐level research, and academic internships abroad. Webinars on aspects of the Boren Awards, including special regional initiatives and components of the application are scheduled throughout the fall and spring. The Research Grant Program is designed to stimulate new and diverse lines of discourse on topics that deserve greater attention within the regions of the Middle East and Africa. Grants of up to $2500 will be awarded. Program guidelines and qualifying research topic areas can be found on the ASMEA website here.

The Council for European Studies is this year holding its 50th Anniversary meeting in Reykjavik, Iceland from the 22nd to the 24th of June 2020. The CES membership has traditionally been primarily centered around the Global North. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Council for European Studies (CES) and the World Society Foundation (WSF) are committed to engaging participants from traditionally underrepresented  communities by awarding a limited number of travel grants covering airfare and accommodation to researchers from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The year 2020 marks a moment for reflection, given recent and ongoing changes in the boundaries of European citizenship, the fragile institutional arrangements of the European social model, the postcolonial analysis of Europe in the world, the population dynamics that define who is European, Europe's changing relationships with other regions and parts of world society, including the Global South, and the configuration of global hegemony.

To explore Anatolian kilim fragments in an Ethiopian monastery? The Ancient & Modern Research Prize is awarded to candidates under age 27 or over age 60 to support research and exploration. The Ancient & Modern Prize was established in 2000 to provide support for scholars who miss out on funding because they are either too young or too old. The winner of the Ancient & Modern Prize receives £1,000, and the runner-up receives the Godfrey Goodwin Prize of £500. The project should relate to any of the subject areas covered by the sponsoring journals: Halı (www.hali.com) and Cornucopia (www.cornucopia.net).  These areas include textile arts of all cultures and periods (Halı) and the art, archaeology, culture, history, and cultural heritage of civilizations in Turkey (Cornucopia). As long as it pertains to one of the above subject areas, there is no restriction on geographic location or time period.
