The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support observational or intervention research focused on reducing cancer health disparities in tobacco use in the United States. Specifically, this FOA is intended to stimulate scientific inquiry focused on innovative tobacco control policies. Applicants may propose projects in which the primary outcome of interest is on reducing tobacco use cancer health disparities in vulnerable populations by utilizing tobacco prevention and control strategies. The long-term goal of this FOA is to reduce cancer health disparities in health outcomes thereby reducing the excess disease burden of tobacco use within these groups. Applicants submitting applications related to health economics are encouraged to consult NOT-OD-16-025 to ensure that the research projects align with NIH mission priorities in health economics research.

The purpose of the R01 grant program is (1) to develop an understanding of the risks and conditions associated with occupational diseases and injuries, (2) to explore methods for reducing risks and preventing or minimizing exposure to hazardous conditions in the workplace, and (3) to translate significant scientific findings into prevention practices and products that will effectively reduce work-related illnesses and injuries. The Research Project Grant (R01) supports a discrete, specified, circumscribed project in scientific areas that represent the investigators’ specific interests and competencies and that fall within the mission of NIOSH. Applicants must concisely describe the occupational health burden addressed in their proposal and must link the need for the proposed research activities to planned outputs that will help alleviate this burden. The purpose of NIDILRR's Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP) which are funded through the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program, is to plan and conduct research, demonstration projects, training, and related activities, including international activities, to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities, and to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (Rehabilitation Act).Under this particular DRRP priority, applicants must propose a development project that is aimed at improving the health and function of individuals with disabilities. The Centers of Excellence will support interdisciplinary approaches to advance translational research on sex differences. The Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Fellowship for Students at Institutions Without NIH-Funded Institutional Predoctoral Dual-Degree Training Programs (Parent F30) award will support students at institutions without formal NIH-funded institutional predoctoral dual-degree training programs. The Department of Biomedical Informatics hosts an annual internship program each summer which provides high school, undergraduate, and graduate students opportunities to pursue research projects in the field of biomedical informatics under the guidance of research and operational staff and renowned faculty mentors in the Department of Biomedical Informatics. The Doctors Company Foundation was created in 2008 by the Doctors Company, the nation's largest insurer of medical professional liability for physicians, surgeons, and other health professionals. The purpose of the foundation is to support patient safety education for healthcare professionals in training and in practice, as well as patient safety research with clinically useful applications. To advance this mission, the foundation is accepting applications for research and education programs and projects designed to enhance patient safety. Grant amounts will be determined on an individual basis based on project budget and availability of funds. The foundation does not support clinical research projects primarily involving the provision of medical support services to patients. Construction projects and the purchase of equipment will not be funded. While general funding for medical meetings and conferences will not be considered, support for invited speakers when the principal focus of their presentation is on patient safety and support for the attendance of healthcare professionals in training at patient safety conferences will be considered.

NIJ is seeking rigorous research to evaluate promising practices and strategies that aim to promote effective management and supervision of offenders in both institutions and in the community. Specifically, NIJ is interested in receiving proposals for research and evaluation focused on: * Reducing violence and misconduct. * Provision of medical and mental health services. NIJ is particularly interested in receiving proposals addressing these topics in the context of jails, community corrections, and rural and tribal correctional systems. Every correctional setting has a unique operating environment and challenges. Yet jails, community corrections, and rural and tribal correction systems have received limited empirical attention relative to the number of jurisdictions they serve and the critical functions they provide in the delivery of correctional services. The research resulting from this solicitation supports the U.S. Department of Justice's priorities to reduce violent crime and to protect police and other public safety personnel.

With this solicitation, NIJ seeks proposals to strengthen the medical examiner/coroner (ME/C) system in the United States. This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) focuses on sensitivity and tolerance mechanisms underlying the development of alcohol use disorders. The intent of this FOA is to: (1) develop hypotheses about cellular, molecular or network mechanisms that regulate sensitivity and tolerance to alcohol, and (2) develop quantitative models to predict the development of tolerance and the progression to alcohol dependence. These objectives will be accomplished with a Phased Innovation (R21/R33) mechanism, in which secondary data analysis or pilot studies can occur during the R21 phase, and research testing the hypotheses can be expanded in the R33 phase. The transition to the R33 phase will be determined by NIAAA program staff after evaluation of the achievement of specific milestones set for the R21 phase.
