This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) encourages the submission of applications that propose to conduct research that is of high-priority to NCCAM that requires synergistic collaboration between outstanding scientists and the synthesis of multiple research approaches by multi-disciplinary research teams. The Center of Excellence for Research on CAM (CERC) program is designed to support research in which the funding of three or four synergistic, highly meritorious projects as a group offers significant scientific advantages over support of the same projects as individual research grants. Each CERC must consist of, throughout the duration of the award, a minimum of three research projects, focused on basic, mechanistic, and/or translational research questions relevant to the research priorities described in the current NCCAM Strategic Plan.

DARPA is soliciting innovative research proposals of interest to the Defense Sciences Office. Proposed research should investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in science and technology. Specifically excluded is research that results primarily in evolutionary improvements to the existing state of the art.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to identify strategies to engage stakeholders through shared decision making that can be used to effectively implement interventions specific to health care delivery systems, clinicians, and/or patients that focus on the reduction of racial/ethnic healthcare disparities in under-resourced settings. The effective strategies will incorporate the translation, dissemination, and implementation of patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) findings for racial/ethnic minority populations. Successful applicants are required to demonstrate an ability to leverage the capacities of relevant and diverse stakeholders in their strategies to reduce healthcare disparities in under-resourced settings.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to emphasize the importance of coordination and collaboration across agencies, partner, and organizations to: * Develop standards and best practices * And to expand the use of electronic data reporting. Specifically, the purpose of this program is to: * Support the development, promotion, maintenance, and communication of data standards for population-based central cancer registration * Improve central cancer registry operations through the development and dissemination of documented best practices. * Increase reporting via electronic mechanisms and meaningful use implementation. The expected outcomes of this FOA are: * Standardized data reporting guidelines and best practices * Improved registry operations * Enhanced national cancer surveillance data * Improved data timeliness, quality, and completeness Approximately $2,250,000 is available to fund one (1) program approximately $450,000 per year for a project period of up to five (5) years. Cost sharing or matching funds are not required for this program. Although there is no statutory match requirement for this FOA, leveraging other resources and related ongoing efforts to promote program continuity is strongly encouraged.

The INSPIRE awards program was established to address some of the most complicated and pressing scientific problems that lie at the intersection of traditional disciplines.  It is intended to encourage investigators to submit bold, exceptional proposals that some may consider to be at a disadvantage in a standard NSF review process; it is not intended for proposals that are more appropriate for existing award mechanisms.

Healthy Eating Research: Building Evidence to Prevent Childhood Obesity is a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). The program supports research on environmental and policy strategies with strong potential to promote healthy eating among children to prevent childhood obesity, especially among lower-income and racial and ethnic populations at highest risk for obesity. Findings are expected to advance RWJF's efforts to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic by 2015.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits Research Program Cooperative Agreement (U19) applications from organizations that propose a Research Center in outcomes and effectiveness research and focus in one of two programmatic themes:patients served by (1) Medicare; or (2) State Medicaid and/or Childrens Health Insurance (CHIP) programs.

Grants of up to $1.62 million over five to seven years will be awarded to support investigators with an innovative basic, clinical, translational, epidemiological, or health services research initiative relevant to any diabetes type, diabetes-related disease state, or diabetes complication. The program seeks to bring new perspectives to diabetes research by offering three types of funding: support for the transition from trainee to independent investigator, support for early-career diabetes investigators, and support for established investigators new to diabetes research.

The purpose of this FOA is to provide support for innovative research into the role of extracellular RNA (exRNA) in the development of alcohol-related diseases and end-organ injuries. As used here, the term exRNA refers to RNA molecules circulating outside of cells, either within vesicles or associated with carrier molecules. It is anticipated that this FOA will generate data that may lead to breakthroughs in our understanding of the role of exRNA communication in the initiation, progression and maintenance of the diverse medical disorders caused by excessive, long-term alcohol consumption. In the future this knowledge may be critical in the diagnosis, treatment and management of vulnerable patient populations debilitated by the vast array of alcohol-induced pathologies and enable clinicians to improve disease outcomes and, consequently, public health. In addition, research supported by this FOA may also provide information on the mechanistic basis of the health benefits of moderate alcohol consumption.

This program (formerly, New Investigator Research Grants) is offered by The Obesity Society (TOS), as a member service, to foster and stimulate new research ideas in any area of investigation related to obesity. The program targets junior-level investigators and post-doctoral trainees by funding proposals that demonstrate a high likelihood of resulting in new and innovative approaches in obesity research. Early-career investigators are defined as individuals who have received a PhD within the past five years or MD within the past eight years and who currently hold full-time, entry-level positions (e.g., post-doctoral fellow, instructor, assistant professor) at an established academic/research institution. Applicants may request up to $25,000. No indirect cost will be paid from this grant. Applications (Letters of Intent) are due April 15, 2013, with funding available September 3, 2013. The award may be expended over a period of up to one year.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages cooperative research project grant (U01) applications aimed at developing and determining, prospectively, the sensitivity and specificity of approaches to screening and stratifying youth (under age 18) who are at risk for suicide in order to improve the overall care of these individuals in the Emergency Department (ED) setting. To optimize the generalizability of improved ED care to reduce suicidality, applications should develop screening and risk stratification approaches that can be tested across multiple general medical emergency department settings. Improved screening would inform subgroup-by-intervention pairing to increase impact and future intervention development to target modifiable risk factors within specific high risk groups.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) invites Exploratory/Developmental Phased Innovation (R21/R33) grant applications to support research and/or infrastructure needs leading to more accessible and affordable hearing health care (HHC). The proposed research aims should lead to the delivery of better healthcare access and outcomes and be directed to solutions that are effective, affordable and deliverable to those who need them. Outcomes and health services research are also responsive to this FOA. This FOA provides support for up to two years (R21 phase) for preliminary/development studies, followed by possible transition of up to four years of expanded research and development support (R33 phase). The total project period for an application submitted in response to this FOA may not exceed five years. This FOA requires measurable R21 milestones.

This FOA will utilize the R21 grant mechanism and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope that encourages applications under the R01 grant mechanism.
