One-year grants of up to $40,000 will be awarded for projects that investigate various aspects of hearing and balance disorders related to the inner ear. Priority will be given to investigators early in their careers who need seed funds to generate results and data that can be used to support applications for larger grants (i.e., NIH grants) in the future.

The National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) seeks to fund an RERC on Technologies to Promote Exercise and Health Among People with Disabilities. This RERC must investigate access to exercise by people with disabilities in both recreational and clinical settings and evaluate the impact of exercise on health outcomes of people with disabilities

he desired outcomes include: 1) an increase in the number of admissions for MAT; 2) an increase in the number of clients receiving integrated care/treatment; 3) a decrease in illicit opioid drug use at six-month follow-up; and 4) a decrease in the use of prescription opioids in a non-prescribed manner at six-month follow-up. For the purpose of this FOA, integrated care/treatment is defined as the organized delivery and/or coordination of medical (including the use of Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved drugs [buprenorphine, methadone, extended release injectable naltrexone] for addiction), behavioral, social, peer, and other recovery support services provided to individual patients who have multiple healthcare needs in order to produce better overall health outcomes.

Local governmental entities include, but are not limited to, municipal corporations, counties, cities, boroughs, incorporated towns, and townships. The purpose of this program is to allow first responders and members of other key community sectors to administer a drug or device approved or cleared under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act for emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose. Grantees will train and provide resources to first responders and members of other key community sectors at the state, tribal, and local governmental levels on carrying and administering a drug or device approved or cleared under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act for emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose. Purpose of Program: The purpose of the RERC program is to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act by conducting advanced engineering research on and development of innovative technologies that are designed to solve particular rehabilitation problems or to remove environmental barriers. RERCs also demonstrate and evaluate such technologies, facilitate service delivery system changes, stimulate the production and distribution of new technologies and equipment in the private sector, and provide training opportunities. NIDILRR seeks to fund an RERC on Technologies to Promote Exercise and Health Among People with Disabilities. SAMHSA will award OD Treatment Access funds to a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Opioid Treatment Program, or practitioner who has a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine to expand access to Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved drugs or devices for emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose. The grantee will partner with other prescribers at the community level to develop best practices for prescribing and co-prescribing FDA-approved overdose reversal drugs. After developing best practices, the grantee will train other prescribers in key community sectors as well as individuals who support persons at high risk for overdose

The two required strategies are: 1) Enhance and maximize a state PDMP and 2) Implement community or insurer/health system interventions aimed at preventing prescription drug overdose and abuse. The two optional strategies are: 3) Conduct policy evaluations and/or 4) Develop and implement Rapid Response Projects. The targeted outcomes of each strategy will vary and may include programmatic outcomes, as well as changes in behaviors thought to be linked to drug overdose morbidity or mortality. Awardees will be expected to implement robust evaluations of their program activities using timely data from a variety of sources.

The infant mortality rate (IMR) is a widely used indicator of the nation's health. In 2012, the United States ranked 25th among 29 industrialized nations, with an overall IMR of 5.98/1,000 live births.1 Most notable, the IMR for infants born to non-Hispanic black mothers was 11.19/1,000, more than double the non-Hispanic white IMR of 5.04/1,000.2 State public health departments lead infant mortality reduction efforts within their states with support of the Title V Maternal and Child Health Services Block Grant Program.3 At the local level, Healthy Start grants are provided to communities with high annual rates of infant mortality (i.e., at least 1½ times the U.S. national average) and high rates for other adverse perinatal outcomes (e.g., low birthweight, preterm birth, maternal morbidity and mortality) in order to address the needs of high-risk women and their families before, during, and after pregnancy. To advance the mission of Healthy Start and contribute to state infant mortality reduction efforts, this announcement solicits applications for the Collaborative Improvement and Innovation Network on Infant Mortality (IM CoIIN).

The activities undertaken under this Cooperative Agreement would be targeted to training FDA's regulatory counterparts who commit to doing further training in their respective countries, academia, and industry representatives. By training regulators, IICA would be providing up-to-date information on FDA FSMA requirements, as well as good agricultural practice knowledge. If regulators or appropriate government institutions become trainers of the Alliance curriculum, they could possibly offer the training at lower costs, which can be a prohibitive factor for smaller business entities in understanding and implementing FSMA produce safety standards.

In celebration of the Human-Canine Bond, the Fund awards five scholarships per year, totaling $10,000 annually, payable as tuition assistance to accredited institutions to full-time students enrolled in courses of study that contribute to the well-being of dogs and responsible pet ownership. The "3-D Retina Organoid'' Challenge (the "Challenge''), is an ideation Challenge in which the National Eye Institute (NEI; http://www.nei.nih.gov/), part of the National Institutes of Health (http://www.nih.gov(link is external)), is asking for ideas to maximize the physiological relevance of 3-D human retina culture systems. Currently, retina culture models do not capture the complexity of the human retina. The goal of the Challenge is to transform innovative ideas into concrete concepts to develop new in vitro 3-D human retina models that recapitulate the organization and function of the human retina. NEI intends to follow this challenge with a follow-on but distinct Reduction to Practice Challenge, which will aim to invoke scientific and technological development of the model system. Technological breakthroughs in this arena could allow researchers and physicians to better understand, diagnose, and treat retinal diseases.

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) will award National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Research Training Grants (T32) to eligible domestic institutions to enhance predoctoral and postdoctoral research training and ensure that a diverse and highly trained workforce is available and committed to the generation, translation and dissemination of new scientific evidence and analytical tools that will be used to improve health care delivery in the United States.
