    Focus on diversity among women faculty: The ADVANCE program is centrally focused on funding projects to support systemic change for gender equity in STEM academic careers. Barriers to gender equity may not be identical for all groups of women faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines, however. For example, African-American women, Hispanic/Latina women, and Native American women are underrepresented as tenured and tenure-track faculty in STEM disciplines compared to white women, and the challenges to recruitment, retention, and advancement may not be the same for these groups of women. Preventing Violence Against Women in Priority Communities through Expanded Services - 0 views

    Violence against women continues to affect millions of women and girls each year. Racial and ethnic minority women have a higher documented risk of violence victimization. Recent statistics have identified other priority communities at elevated risk such as the incarcerated, the elderly, and adolescents. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will encourage a focus on preventing and responding to violence against women in these and other priority communities. Harmful social norms, including social constructs around what it means to be a woman or a man, contribute to the risk of perpetrating violence against women. As such, this FOA encourages applications from organizations and coalitions working to prevent violence against women by transforming harmful gender norms through women's empowerment and male engagement efforts. Preliminary evaluation results of OWH's previous work to improve community responses to violence against women highlights the critical need to link women to services from multiple sectors including but not limited to legal assistance; law enforcement; mental health services; substance abuse treatments; and housing. This FOA also encourages applications from organizations and coalitions using multisectoral approaches to provide response services to affected women in their communities.

    For many decades, an increasing number of women have obtained STEM doctoral degrees, however, women, particularly women of color, continue to be significantly underrepresented in almost all STEM academic positions.  While the degree of underrepresentation varies among STEM disciplines, women's advancement to senior professorial ranks and leadership roles is an issue in all fields.  The underrepresentation of women is also a critical issue for the nation, at large, as its need to develop a globally competitive and diverse workforce increases. Research has shown that women's representation and advancement in academic STEM positions are affected by many external factors that are unrelated to their ability, interest and technical skills (Spencer, et al, 1999; Halpern and Tan, 2001; Hyde, 2005; National Academy of Sciences, 2007).  Such factors include, but are not limited to: stereotype threat, societal impacts, organizational constraints of academic institutions; differential effect of work and family demands; implicit and explicit bias; and lack of women in academic leadership and decision-making positions.  The cumulative effect of such diverse factors has been to create infrastructural barriers that impact the number of women entering, persisting and advancing in STEM careers. Thus, the goal of the ADVANCE program is to develop systemic approaches to increase the representation and advancement of women in academic STEM careers, thereby contributing to the development of a more diverse science and engineering workforce.  ADVANCE also has as its goal to seminally contribute to and inform the general knowledge base on gender equity in the academic STEM disciplines.

Mentors and advisors deployed to INL missions are in a unique position to help INL advance its objectives with respect to integrating women and women?s perspectives. In particular, they may have opportunities to offer suggestions concerning the participation of women to host country counterparts. L'Oréal USA For Women In Science Program - 0 views

    The L'Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program is a national awards program that annually recognizes and rewards five U.S.-based women researchers at the beginning of their scientific careers. Recipients receive up to $60,000 each that they must put towards their postdoctoral research. The program's partner, AAAS, manages the peer-review process. Launched in 2003 as the U.S. Fellowships component of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Fellowship program, the program aim to: Raise awareness of the contribution of women to the sciences Identify exceptional female researchers in the U.S. to serve as role models for younger generations An inter-disciplinary panel of scientists reviews all applications submitted. The top candidates chosen by the review panel are then forwarded for final selection to a distinguished Jury of career scientists and former North American L'ORÉAL-UNESCO For Women in Science Laureates. The Jury seeks candidates with exceptional academic records and intellectual merit, clearly articulated research proposals with the potential for scientific advancement and outstanding letters of recommendation from advisers.     Since 1881, the American Association of University Women has worked nationally to improve the lives of millions of women and their families. The organization currently is inviting applications for its American Fellowships program. Through the program, grants will be awarded to  women scholars who are completing dissertations, planning research leave from accredited institutions, or preparing research for publication. Three categories of awards are supported through the program and are open to women scholars in all fields of study. American Dissertation Fellowships - Grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded to offset a scholar's living expenses while she completes her dissertation. Fellowships are open to applicants in all fields of study, and women scholars engaged in STEM fields or researching gender issues are especially encouraged to apply. Fellowships must be used for the final year of dissertation writing, and applicants must have completed all course work, passed all preliminary examinations, and received approval for their research proposals or plans by November 1, 2019. The doctoral degree/dissertation must be completed between April 1 and June 30, 2021, and degree conferral must be between April 1 and September 15, 2021.

    The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate in Kolkata (PAS Kolkata) seeks proposals for a project entitled "Women for Women: Supporting Each Other to Build Sustainable Careers." Under this project, a grantee will partner with PAS Kolkata to host weekly mentoring workshops at the American Center for 20 women between the ages of 20-25 pursuing undergraduate studies in STEM fields in Kolkata who have little to no exposure to the U.S and the American higher education system.     Global instability and violent extremism threaten U.S. and global security. The U.S. WPS Act of 2017, further expanded upon by the U.S. Strategy on WPS, have identified women's leadership and participation as crucial to sustainable peace and security. Promoting women's meaningful inclusion and participation across efforts to prevent conflict and build peace is not simply a women's issue; it is a national security issue and vital for human progress. Though women provide essential contributions to lasting solutions to conflict, terrorism, and crisis, their perspectives and leadership are often absent from places where decisions are made about their countries' and communities' future. In addition, violence against women and girls remain pervasive before, during, and after conflicts - which prolongs conflict and inhibits the meaningful participation of women in political and security processes. A growing body of evidence demonstrates that women are partners we cannot afford to ignore, as their participation leads to better outcomes not only for women, but also for entire societies.

U.S. Consulate General Basrah seeks to engage southern Iraqi women who are in positions of increased financial responsibility due to the loss of a family member to armed conflict, violent extremism, and/or sectarian violence. The goal is to enable Iraqi women to meet their essential economic needs and those of their families. Participants will receive training and access resources as part of a local network of mentors that can provide them real-time tailored feedback and offer ongoing support, advice, and resources to overcome the challenges businesswomen face in the context of southern Iraqi society. The program should also incorporate virtual mentoring sessions with American entrepreneurs - particularly women, and those fluent in Arabic - who can speak to their experiences, offer best practices, and promote linkages between Iraqi and American businesspeople.

    The Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) announces the availability of administrative supplements to support interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research focused on the effect of sex/gender influences at the intersection of several social determinants, including but not limited to: race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, education, health literacy and other social determinants in human health and illness. This research includes preclinical, clinical, behavioral and translational studies with the specific purpose to provide Administrative Supplements to active NIH parent grants for one year to address health disparities among women of populations in the US who are understudied, underrepresented and underreported in biomedical research. The proposed research must address an area specified within Goal 1 and 2 of the new Trans-NIH Strategic Plan for Women's Health Research "Advancing Science for the Health of Women". These goals focus on advancing rigorous research that is relevant to the health of women (Goal 1) and developing methods and leveraging data sources to consider sex and gender influences that enhance research for the health of women (Goal 2). Projects must include a focus on one or more NIH-designated health disparities populations, which include Blacks/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, underserved rural populations, and sexual and gender minorities (SGM). Combinations of one or more populations is also encouraged, e.g. socioeconomically disadvantaged sexual and gender minorities.

    The Office of Citizen Exchanges, Professional Fellows Division, of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA or "the Bureau") invites proposal submissions for the FY 2018 TechWomen program to empower, connect, and support the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The exchange program uses a mentorship model to support emerging STEM leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa, South and Central Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa. Organizations applying for this federal award should demonstrate the capacity to recruit, select, and place in mentorships a total of approximately 100-110 women from select countries in these regions to participate in a five- to six-week intensive peer-mentoring program in the United States. The mentoring experience should focus on advancing the status of professional women in the STEM fields through project-based peer mentorships, skill building, networking opportunities, and enhancement activities. Funding will also support follow-on activities in the participants' home countries that inspire and encourage girls and university-age women interested or working in STEM-based careers, engage young women using technology in their professions, and support former participants of the program ("alumnae"). Special emphasis should be placed on finding creative ways to involve alumnae in strengthening a network of female STEM professionals, building professional standards and capacity, and inspiring the next generation of girls interested in STEM careers by exposing them to female role models. Award applicants must exhibit their ability to manage all program logistics and overseas follow-on programming.

DRL Combatting Gender-Based Violence in Morocco - 0 views

    The most recent survey by the Moroccan High Commission for Planning, published in 2011, found that 62.8 percent of women aged 18 to 65 had experienced physical, psychological, sexual, or economic violence within the prior 12 months. Further, 55 percent of women surveyed reported domestic violence and 13.5 per cent reported family violence. Less than 3 percent of women who had experienced domestic violence had reported it to the authorities. Both national and international civil society reports indicate that of women who do report abuse to authorities, many do not receive the assistance required by existing Moroccan law and procedure. This has been attributed to a lack of a clear legal framework specific to gender-based violence (GBV) - draft law 103-13 on combatting violence against women remains pending - as well as social stigma, and limited awareness and implementation of existing GBV protections and reforms. The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that help combat gender-based violence in Morocco. DRL's objective for this program is to enhance the ability of Moroccan government and civil society stakeholders engaging on GBV to advance survivor-centered protections. All proposals should include efforts that bring together key stakeholders, including justice and security sector actors, to promote effectiveness and accountability in gender-based violence prevention and response.
