The goal of the Energy for Sustainability program is to support fundamental engineering research that will enable innovative processes and solutions for the sustainable production of electricity and fuels, and energy storage. The Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act; P. L. 114-94, December 4, 2015) authorizes the Secretary of Transportation to make grants to eligible non-profit institutions of higher education to establish and operate University Transportation Centers (UTCs or Centers). Non-profit institutions of higher education may include qualifying two-year institutions (20 U.S.C. § 1001(a)).  The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology (OST-R) of the U.S. Department of Transportation (US DOT) will manage the UTC Program.

The U.S. Department of Energy's Building Technologies Office Emerging Technologies (ET) program is announcing the availability of up to $3 million for a new program focused on developing higher-efficacy and cost-effective replacement lamps in general illumination applications. ET's Lighting Alternatives Maximizing Performance and Suitability (LAMPS) program seeks to accelerate the development of replacement lamps that meet or exceed 45 lumens per watt, maintain the needed performance attributes of the incandescent lamps they replace, eliminate or minimize any performance compromises, and create suitable lighting options for incandescent lamps where none exist today.

Leidos will match high-scoring, unfunded National Institutes of Health (NIH) proposals with private biomedical foundations and/or industries seeking to fund promising research. Foundations will have access to peer-reviewed research proposals that directly relate to their funding priorities, industry will have access to a rich pipeline of early stage and translational research proposals that align with its priorities, while applicants with strong research proposals will be provided with a second opportunity to secure funding. Seeding will be of native species unless science and experience have proven non-native, non-invasive species are more effective. Layout of treatment unit boundaries under the direct supervision of BLM staff. Prescribed fire may be part of the overall project. Federal agency personnel will serve as the lead partner for any prescribed fire planning and operations. All personnel used for prescribed fire operations will meet NWCG requirements
