This Funding Opportunity Announcement's (FOA) objective is to invite private industry, universities, water utilities, and other research sponsors to submit proposals to cost share laboratory scale and pilot scale projects that address DWPR program goals and objectives. Funding Group I: Laboratory scale projects are typically bench scale studies involving small flow rates (less than 2 gallons per minute). They are used to determine the viability of a novel process, new materials, or process modifications. Research at this stage often involves a high degree of risk and uncertainty. Funding Group II: Pilot scale projects test a novel process at a sufficiently large scale to determine the technical, practical, and economic viability of the process and are generally preceded by laboratory studies (funded previously by DWPR or others) that demonstrate that the technology works.

Mission Effects Analysis of Multi-domain Sensing (MEAMS) will help develop understanding of the multi-domain mission sensing environment and analyze the potential mission effects through cross domain integration of capabilities. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) is soliciting investigator-initiated research that will further the understanding of potential risk factors for ALS, while supporting the National ALS Registry’s mission. The National ALS Registry's goals are to estimate the number of new ALS cases each year, estimate the number of people who have ALS at a specific point in time, better understand who gets ALS, and identify what contributing factors, including environmental, may affect ALS.

This solicitation is being conducted under the procedures for competitive subcontracts established by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). NREL will award a subcontract based on the following. All Statement of Work (SOW) requirements being met with the best combination of: · Technical factors (based on qualitative merit criteria), and · Evaluated price (or cost) It is the intent of NREL to award one (1) firm fixed price with price participation subcontract(s) under this solicitation. The anticipated period of performance is twenty-one (21) months (eighteen (18) months to complete the technical work plus an additional three (3) months to complete the final reports), with an estimated budget of approximately $350,000.00 per award amount from NREL. A minimum price participation of 20% is required for this solicitation. Price participation is defined as a percentage of the total allowable and allocable costs under this subcontract, which may be met by contributions by the Offeror and / or by contributions from the Offeror's lower-tier Offerors or suppliers at no cost to NREL. All costs must be allowable and allocable under the terms of the Federal Acquisition Regulations and DOE Acquisitions Regulations.

The Coupling, Energetics, and Dynamics of Atmospheric Regions (CEDAR) program is a broad-based research program with the goal of understanding the behavior of atmospheric regions from the middle atmosphere upward through the thermosphere and ionosphere into the exosphere in terms of coupling, energetics, chemistry, and dynamics on regional and global scales. These processes are related to the sources of perturbations that propagate upward from the lower atmosphere as well as to solar radiation and particle inputs from above. The activities within this program combine observations from ground based and space based platforms, theory and modeling.

Geospace Environment Modeling (GEM) is a broad-based research program investigating the physics of the Earth's magnetosphere and the coupling of the magnetosphere to the atmosphere and to the solar wind. The goal of the GEM program is to make accurate predictions of the geospace environment by developing physical understanding of the large-scale organization and dynamics from observations, theory, and increasingly realistic models.

The Course Hero-Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching will support rising stars in the academy who love teaching, demonstrate excellence as educators, and are making their mark as exceptional researchers, poised to shape their fields. Designed for young scholars working towards tenure, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship is a "genius grant" that will emphasize the balance between scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching practice that draws on new approaches to pedagogy, creating a new level of engagement for students in and beyond the classroom. In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.

The Wildlife Conservation Society is inviting proposals from nonprofit conservation organizations through its Climate Adaptation Fund. Building on the society's 120-year history in long-term conservation efforts, the WCS Climate Adaptation Fund will award up to $2.5 million in grants in 2018. The grants are designed to strengthen the capacity of wildlife and ecosystems to adapt to climate change by enhancing dynamic ecological processes and ecosystem functionality (as opposed to projects that benefit a particular species or landscape attribute). Projects should focus on improving the adaptive capacity of ecosystems rather than simply conserving or restoring their historic conditions. Projects that implement joint mitigation and adaptation (JMA) approaches are encouraged. To be eligible, applicants must be a U.S.-based nonprofit conservation organization with 501(c)(3) status that incorporates climate adaptation science into its proposal and uses strategic communications to increase the conservation impact of its results. The fund also seeks on-the-ground projects using strategic communications to leverage broader impact through replication of adaptation practices across landscapes.

EPA is announcing a grant competition to fund two-year Pollution Prevention assistance agreements for projects expected to be performed in each EPA region that provide technical assistance and/or training to businesses/facilities to help them adopt source reduction approaches (also known as "pollution prevention" or "P2"). P2 means reducing or eliminating pollutants from entering any waste stream or otherwise released into the environment prior to recycling, treatment, or disposal. In keeping with the Pollution Prevention Act of 1990, EPA is encouraging P2 because implementing these approaches can result in reductions in toxic pollutants, the use of water, energy and other raw materials, while also lowering business costs. For this current round of grants, EPA is putting additional emphasis on documenting and sharing the P2 best practices and innovations identified and developed through these grants so that others can replicate these approaches and outcomes. If Congress appropriates Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 and 2019 funds for the P2 Program at levels comparable to FY 2017 funding levels, the EPA may award a total of approximately $9.38 million in federal P2 grant funding for these two-year assistance agreements (approximately $4.69 million in FY 2018 and approximately $4.69 million in FY 2019 funds).

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is soliciting applications to develop Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Technology in order to support fuel cells system manufacturers in addressing issues related to cost and reliability of fuel cells systems. Applications are sought in two areas of interest (AOI) that include AOI 1 - Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) Core Technology Research and AOI 2 - Core Technology Research and Development (R&D) in Support of Near-Term SOFC Power Systems Prototype Tests. AOI 1 is supporting transformational technologies that are focused on early-stage laboratory-scale R&D. Successful projects will result in validation of concepts at a laboratory-scale. Collaboration with a fuel cell system manufacturer is encouraged. AOI 2 will seek projects that address reliability issues facing 2nd Generation SOFC power systems in an operational environment. This AOI will require a team approach where the participation of at least one fuel cell system manufacturer as a prime or a sub-recipient in the team is required. Teams should be able to take the technology developed during the award to the point that it can be validated in an operational system. Fuel cell technology other than SOFC will be considered non-responsive to both AOIs.

This FOA encourages applications that develop, strengthen, and evaluate transdisciplinary approaches, methods, and investigative teams in basic behavioral, social, and/or biobehavioral research to generate fundamental knowledge of the reciprocal linkages between sleep and stress. Stress can result in sleep disruption due to both psychological as well as physiological changes. Sleep disruption can result in physiological changes; however, individuals may not recognize or identify impairment due to sleep disruption. This initiative supports the development of research teams to understand how basic individual, social, biological, and environmental factors interact in a dynamic relationship between sleep patterns and psychosocial stress to influence health, wellness, disease, and/or treatment adherence.

Projects supported by the Higher Education Challenge Grants Program will: (1) address a state, regional, national, or international educational need; (2) involve a creative or non-traditional approach toward addressing that need that can serve as a model to others; (3) encourage and facilitate better working relationships in the university science and education community, as well as between universities and the private sector, to enhance program quality and supplement available resources; and (4) result in benefits that will likely transcend the project duration and USDA support.

NIJ is interested to fund a single evaluator that will have the capabilities to assess the effectiveness of a few promising technologies that can enhance safety within K-12 schools. Evaluations should consider the school environment and use cases as well as the kinds of data that might be collected or used as a result of the technology intervention. Applicants are encouraged to explore technologies that have worked for use cases in other ecosystems that may translate well to the K-12 school environment.

The Vanishing Treasures (VT) Program proposes to partner with the University of Pennsylvaniaâ¿¿s Department of Historic Preservation to develop an internship opportunity for an emerging professional interested in enhancing his/her knowledge and experience in historic preservation. The intern will complete a special project in the area of preservation craft and technology or preservation pedagogy in order to fulfill internship requirements.

The North Face Explore Fund supports nonprofit organizations in the U.S. that are looking to increase participation in the outdoors and work in innovative ways to protect our environment. Grants are made in the following categories: The Enabling New Explorers category focuses on programs that introduce underrepresented communities to outdoor adventures in potentially new and interesting ways. The Protecting Our Environment category focuses on programs that work to protect our ecosystems and our ability to continue to enjoy them. Across both categories, programs with strong outdoor engagement in activities such as skiing, kayaking, backpacking, etc. are preferred. Grants generally range from $5,000 to $25,000. The National Urban and Community Forestry Challenge Cost Share Grant Program supports forestry projects on non-federal public land that have a national or multi-state impact and application. The application deadline is April 30, 2018.

INL/C seeks to fund a project that builds Latin America's capacity to deter, detect, investigate, prosecute, and adjudicate wildlife poaching and trafficking cases. The scope includes the facilitative financial crimes (e.g. money laundering and corruption) that enable poaching and trafficking networks. The primary countries of engagement must include two or more of the following: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Guatemala, Belize, and Mexico. Additional countries in Latin America and the Caribbean may also be included

Toward this goal, the agency conducts and supports weather and climate research, oceanic and atmospheric observations, modeling, information management, assessments, interdisciplinary decision-support research, outreach, education, and partnership development. Climate variability and change present society with significant economic, health, safety, and security challenges and opportunities. In meeting these challenges, and as part of NOAA's climate portfolio within the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), the Climate Program Office (CPO) advances scientific understanding, monitoring, and prediction of climate and its impacts, to enable effective decisions. This funding opportunity focuses on the Climate Variability and Predictability (CVP) Program. The CVP Program supports research that enhances our process-level understanding of the climate system through observation, modeling, analysis, and field studies. This vital knowledge is needed to improve climate models and predictions so that scientists and society can better anticipate the impacts of future climate variability and change. To achieve its mission, the CVP Program invests in NOAA mission-critical research, which is carried out at NOAA and other federal laboratories, NOAA Cooperative Institutes, academic institutions and private sector research entities.
