On behalf of the Chancellor of the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE), the Ohio Sea Grant College Program, the Ohio State University, and the University of Toledo, we are requesting pre-proposals for one- to two-year research projects from Ohio colleges and universities seeking solutions to: (1) reduce nutrient loading to Lake Erie, (2) learn about algal toxins formation and human health impacts, (3) study bloom dynamics, (4) better inform water treatment plants how to remove toxins, and (5) aid the efforts of state agencies

A project to improve juvenile fish habitat on the mainstem of the Sacramento River in Shasta and Tehama Counties has been in development for a few years. The dynamic river system has been monitored and mapped with the goal of protecting the early life history of threatened and endangered salmonids from flow fluctuations. The mainstem Sacramento River from River Mile 230 to 300 is impacted by dam operations as part of the USBR Central Valley Project. At this time, partnerships are being built to start to work on the next phases of the project. These partnerships involve many landowners who each own a small section of this 70 mile section of river. Monitoring will continue and sites with willing landowners will be designed to have a downward slope so that juvenile fish will be able to swim out with the outgoing flowing water. Steps to comply with the necessary environmental compliance regulations will also be undertaken. Funds for this project are expected to be available within the next few months. In the future, additional funds for implementation at additional sites may also become available (approx. $300,000 per year for the next 2 years). Additional incremental funding may be provided for restoration of juvenile habitat which will include the tasks of planning, environmental compliance, design, project management and construction. Juvenile salmonid habitat along the mainstem Sacramento River is a high priority for the Central Valley Project Improvement Act and the Anadromous Fish Restoration Program (CFDA 15.648).

The US Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 7 intends to award a single source financial assistance agreement as authorized by 505 DM 2.14 (B) to Tanana Valley Watershed Association. This notice is not a request for proposals and the Government does not intend to accept proposals. The goal of this agreement is to develop HUC 8 watershed plans, based upon the 2008 Final Rule watershed approach, to maintain and improve the quality and quantity of aquatic resources within the HUC 6 Tanana River Watershed, starting with the Chena River Watershed and then followed by the other watersheds in order of their importance to Chinook salmon, their percentage of permitted impacts, and emerging and anticipated threats to their aquatic resources. Each plan will identify key areas within the watershed where strategically selected compensatory mitigation sites could be developed to restore, establish, enhance and preserve Chinook salmon and other aquatic resources.

Selected recipients have a demonstrated interest and the capacity to work cooperatively with the USFWS to develop and administer projects focused on providing employment, educational, and public-service opportunities for U.S. citizens, legal residents, and veterans between 18 and 35 years. Projects are developed based on needs identified by USFWS offices at the national, regional and local levels that will lead to the development of project scopes of work in consultation with the youth-serving organizations selected as program partners under Notice of Funding Opportunity F16AS00108. Funds under this award are to be used to place a Digital Media Ranger Intern and an Urban Wildlife Conservation Program Intern at FWS Headquarters, NWRS Visitor Services. An Urban Wildlife Conservation Program Intern (Intern) will be physically located at FWS Headquarters (40 hours per week for 52 weeks). The Intern will provide research assistance and gather recommendations on potential and existing partnerships. The Intern will travel to one or two urban wildlife refuges to work alongside field staff and partners directly connecting with communities. The Intern will provide technical assistance on websites, webinars and other media. A Digital Media Ranger (DMR Intern) Intern will be physically located at FWS headquarters (40 hours per week for 52 weeks. The DMR Intern will plan, create and deliver social media and youth engagement campaigns on multiple platforms; coordinate with other digital media rangers on collecting, cataloging the media produced on our over 560 wildlife refuges, and the DMR Intern will participate in migrating media to a new digital asset management system. The DMR Intern will travel to one or more national wildlife refuges to work alongside other digital media rangers, or assist with projects.

Duties are mainly assisting with field data collection and related data management for the Networksâ¿¿ vegetation and water quality monitoring programs. Other duties may include assisting with early detection of invasive plants, and with monitoring air quality, freshwater mussels and cave resources.

Determination of Delta Smelt spawning behavior and microhabitat. Laboratory experiments will be performed to investigate the spawning behavior and microhabitat of Delta Smelt (Hypomesus transpacificus).

The goal of the NFWF Northern Rockies: Great Migrations and Crucial Corridors Program is to work with local partners to ensure a future for the impressive wildlife of the region by helping to secure landscape connectivity, improving wildlife habitats on both public and private lands, and ensuring safe passage for migratory species across highways and other man-made barriers.

The NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) provides matching grants for international coral reef conservation projects. CRCP solicits proposals that will support the NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program's International Strategy 2010-2015 (International Strategy). The International Strategy focuses on supporting existing regional efforts in four priority regions based on their interconnections with U.S. reef ecosystems and existing initiatives and partnerships. The following three priority regions will be considered under this Federal Funding Opportunity: the Wider Caribbean, South East Asia and South Pacific, and Micronesia. Funding for the Fiscal Year 2018 competition is subject to the availability of Congressional appropriations and is expected to be approximately $600,000. NOAA expects each applicant will request between $75,000 and $300,000 annually for an award with a project period up to two years. Funding after the first year generally depends on future Congressional appropriations, NOAA/CRCP priorities, and recipient performance in the first year(s) of the award.

The objectives of this Agreement are to improve the resilience of once-forested areas under warming and drying climate by collecting seeds from trees located in BAND that appear to drought-resistant, propagating those seeds, and planting seedlings that are within the natural range of variability for the biophysical setting of BAND, but may be better suited to the warmer drier site; and to conduct research that will inform future restoration projects in post-burned areas. In accordance with Section 4.4.2.2 of MP2006, the genetic type used in these plantings would approximate the extirpated genetic type because all of the seeds will have been collected from within BAND and the seedlings will be planted within the natural range of variability for those species. Replanting would occur on sites severely burned during recent human-caused wildfires in BAND. These fires have burned with uncharacteristic severity, the extent of which is far outside the range of historical variability. Recovery along a natural successional pathway is impeded by the extent of the high-severity patches.

The Fellowship Program expects to award at least three new Ph.D. Fellowships in 2018 to students who are interested in careers related to marine ecosystem and population dynamics, with a focus on modeling and managing systems of living marine resources. The emphasis will be on the development and implementation of quantitative methods for assessing marine ecosystems, for assessing the status of fish, invertebrate, and other targeted species stocks and for assessing the status of marine mammals, seabirds, and other protected species. Fellows will work on thesis problems of public interest and relevance to National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) under the guidance of NMFS mentors at participating NMFS Science Centers or Offices. The NMFS-Sea Grant Fellowship in Population and Ecosystem Dynamics meets NOAA's Healthy Oceans goal of "Marine fisheries, habitats, biodiversity sustained with healthy and productive ecosystems".

The goal of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) is to target the most significant environmental problems in the Great Lakes ecosystem by funding and implementing projects that address these problems. This single source funding opportunity to The Nature Conservancy funds fee title acquisition of land from a willing seller at the Bailey's Harbor Boreal Forest and Wetlands State Natural Area in Door County, Wisconsin. The program authorizing statutes for GLRI awards are listed in CFDA number 15.662 located at CFDA.gov.

Given the time and resources spent on the Phase I and II studies and the upgraded and newly installed stations, as well as the importance of the UB Network for consumptive use estimates in the Upper Colorado River Basin, the parties want to ensure the stations will continue to be operated and maintained to an agreed level of standards, and that all collected data will be made available to any and all users in a consistent format. This scope of work addresses the operation and maintenance, data quality control and assurance, and serving of the resulting data for the 2 new climate stations within the state of New Mexico in the Colorado River basin. Tasks 1. The contractor will operate and maintain the 2 new stations according to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) standards appropriate for operation and maintenance of this network (ASCE-EWRI 2005). Teleconnections with the home laboratory will allow daily examination of the sensor outputs. When a significant problem is identified, a site visit will be arranged, to correct the issue within seven (7) days. a. The contractor will provide documentation describing their maintenance procedures and logs of past maintenance upon request. 2. The contractor will ensure each station's sensors are calibrated or checked against standards annually according to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) standards appropriate for calibration (ASCE-EWRI 2005) a. A priority for the Utah BLM is to improve the health and productivity of public lands through investing in our public lands to enhance wildlife habitat, restore watershed and riparian areas, and enhance partnerships to maximize resources that result in healthier landscapes. The objectives for this umbrella announcement will allow for the development of partnerships that provide for one or more of the following types of objectives: â¿¢ Provide technical support for aquatic and riparian resource assessments during land use planning, utilizing landscape or regional assessments such as the Rapid Ecoregional Assessments, Beaver Restoration Tool, Riparian Condition Assessment Tool, Aquatic Assessment, Inventory and Monitoring Data, High Resolution Riparian Land Cover Mapping, fish habitat data, geomorphic change detection data, Conservation Success Index and Native Salmonid Population Viability Analysis. â¿¢ Provide technical support for aquatic and riparian restoration planning, implementation and monitoring utilizing existing landscape or regional assessments such as the Rapid Ecoregional Assessments, Beaver Restoration Tool, Riparian Condition Assessment Tool, Aquatic Assessment, Inventory and Monitoring Data, High Resolution Riparian Land Cover Mapping, fish habitat data, geomorphic change detection data, Conservation Success Index and Native Salmonid Population Viability Analysis. â¿¢ Develop and assist with implementation of on-the-ground cold and warm water fisheries habitat restoration projects for native fish and other species â¿¢ Develop and assist with implementation of on-the-ground habitat restoration projects which will also support riparian restoration in Greater Sage-Grouse priority habitats â¿¢ Develop working lands/conservation ranching initiatives which support conservation of native fish and riparian resources using land management practices which support healthy, balanced ecosystems.

The goals of this RFP is to support an investigation(s) of the extent and cause of the persistent coral disease described as "white blotch" currently impacting nearly half of the reef building coral species (21 of 43 species; 2 threatened endangered species, Endangered Species Act) in Southeast Florida and the Florida Keys.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is soliciting applications from eligible applicants as described in Section III.A to provide training and technical assistance for small public water systems to help such systems achieve and maintain compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), and to provide training and technical assistance for small publicly owned wastewater systems, communities served by onsite/decentralized wastewater systems, and private well owners to improve water quality under the Clean Water Act (CWA). Training and technical assistance activities provided to these systems, communities and private well owners should be made available nationally in rural and urban communities and to personnel of tribally- owned and operated systems.

The Russell Sage Foundation (RSF) has long had the mission to improve social and living conditions in the United States. It pursues this goal by supporting outstanding research in the social sciences that explores how social, economic, and political factors affect the lives of Americans and their children. Support of such research remains the Foundation's core focus. RSF also has a long history of encouraging new scientific advances to strengthen the methods, data, and theoretical core of the social sciences. Two recent intellectual developments have prompted RSF to launch a special research initiative that integrates knowledge from the biological and social sciences. First, there has been a paradigm shift in the life sciences, spurred by the realization that many biological processes, rather than being fixed, immutable mechanisms that consign people to particular life outcomes, are instead fluid, dynamic responses to features of the social and physical environments humans inhabit. Second, this shift led researchers to launch interdisciplinary studies that seek to integrate approaches from the social and biological sciences, recognizing the potential for a deeper understanding of how social inequalities are initiated, maintained, and transmitted from one generation to the next.
