This Notice of Intent provides potential applicants advance notice that the Department of Energy Office of Fossil Energy intends to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement No. DE-FOA-0002192, titled Extreme Environment Materials for Power Generation. The objective of the planned FOA is to competitively solicit and award research and development projects that will focus on materials research,development,testing, and validation to enhance the domestic materials supply chain and the reliability of the existing fossil power generation fleet.

The Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E), an organization within the Department of Energy (DOE), is chartered by Congress in the America COMPETES Act of 2007 (P.L. 110-69), as amended by the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-358) to: "(A) to enhance the economic and energy security of the United States through the development of energy technologies that result in- (i) reductions of imports of energy from foreign sources; (ii) reductions of energy-related emissions, including greenhouse gases; and (iii) improvement in the energy efficiency of all economic sectors; and (B) to ensure that the United States maintains a technological lead in developing and deploying advanced energy technologies."

The objective of the proposed activity is to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement with restricted eligibility among the University and HBCU/OMI community, receive and review the applications, select the top-rated applications for award, negotiate with the selected applicants and complete the award process by issuing grants. Applications submitted in response to the FOA will be evaluated by reviewers from differing backgrounds (e.g., industry and DOE) with the most meritorious applications selected for award.

The objective of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to accelerate the development of potential process modifications, combinations or enhancements, or altogether new alternative processes and technologies-- including techno-economic analyses--that could achieve significant reduction in the quantity of produced water going to deep, underground injection well facilities.

The Plant Conservation and Restoration Management Program was created in response to large-scale wildfires in the Western U.S. Because of a lack of native seed, in 2001 Congress directed the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to establish a native plant material program and recommended that federal and non-federal partners coordinate efforts through the Plant Conservation Alliance established in 1994 (House Report 106-914). The Plant Conservation Program provides leadership in identifying, maintaining, and restoring Western native plant communities on public lands.

Lahontan cutthroat trout has a long evolutionary history in the Great Basin (Nevada, Utah) and is highly distinct from other sub-species of cutthroat trout. Historically, it was found in a wide array of stream and river systems as well as freshwater and alkaline lakes. As a result of this diverse habitat, Lahontan cutthroat developed a variety of life histories, including resident stream, migratory, and lake-dwelling forms.

As a leading poultry meat producer and distributor, TFC, part of ADG, is dedicated to contributing to a circular society and are now looking for ideas which can be realized and technologies that help to find an 'environmentally positive' second life for their waste products. TFC are seeking new uses and processing technologies for the waste generated by their farms. Their goal is that the waste produced becomes useful raw materials that can be used in other processes or high added value products for their core business. In a nutshell, TFC would like the waste to become of value to the company and to the environment. This would allow TFC to offset all the costs of disposal and eventually, it should generate a 'clean & green' revenue from the waste. Fresh thinking about the uses and the value of the waste could lead to new business models or cost-effective solutions that will make TFC's waste valuable and promote environmentally friendly reuse or recycling of the generated waste streams. The focus of this challenge is to find a solution that will process chicken farm waste in a cost-effective, commercially viable manner to create a positive impact on TFC as a corporate entity, on the environment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and ultimately global ecosystem.
