NOAA's B-WET program funds locally relevant, authentic experiential learning for K-12 audiences through Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs). MWEEs are multi‐stage activities that include learning both outdoors and in the classroom and aim to increase understanding and stewardship of watersheds and related ocean, coastal, riverine, estuarine, and Great Lakes ecosystems. NOAA funding is provided to support student investigation of environmental topics both locally and globally that are of interest to them, leveraging local STEM assets and STEM professionals. Students identify actions to address these issues and understand the value of those actions, enabling them to help to understand, protect, and restore watersheds and related ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes ecosystems.

Grants of up to $7,000 will be awarded in support of projects that address the foundation's priorities from a holistic perspective. Priority will be given to projects that aim to protect the earth's beauty and bounty; create robust, healthy food systems; increase opportunities for outdoor activity; reduce environmental health hazards; and/or build stronger communities.

All applicants must currently be pursuing a Bachelor's (or Baccalaureate) Degree related to a profession that is dedicated to improving the beautification of US communities, such as  Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Horticulture, and Environmental and Marine Sciences. Applicants must be currently accepted into a program and must currently hold or anticipate holding a high school diploma or GED within the 2015-2016 school year.  Applicants must be currently involved or recently involved (within one year of date of application) in their community, either through school programs or voluntary programs.
