Request for Proposals: For 2018, the IEEE Foundation Grants Program will invest approximately $304,000 to raise awareness and understanding of science and technology and their potential to address a global challenge. Proposals are invited from IEEE Organizational Units for projects that promote public understanding about how science and technology are being or could be used to address global challenges - including energy, cybersecurity, security, health care, and sustainability. In evaluating proposals, the Grants Committee will seek to determine the extent to which the proposed project: Provides technical information at a level that can be understood by the general public Reaches a broad cross-section of society Has a well-articulated communications plan, that includes social media, designed to increase awareness and engagement of the target audience Presents, in a neutral and balanced manner, an analysis of the social benefits and costs of deploying the subject technology Avoids advocating a particular action but encourages and enables participants to make an informed decision Directly involves IEEE members including, as appropriate, student members Encourages the active participation of the target audience Provides an effective means of determining the impact of the project Matches the IEEE Foundation's Grant criteria

This is a Task Agreement under a Youth Master Cooperative Agreement P15AC00031. The Recipient with recruit 2 interns. The purpose of this project is to provide youth hands-on experience in natural and cultural restoration and toenhance the scientific communities knowledge adding to the study/ monitoring of bats. This is in regards to the White Nose Syndrome (WNS),a deadly disease that affects North American bats. The work done by the interns will help the management and provide for public awareness. The primary goal is to continue with a landscape project involving 22 acres that was started in 2017.The objectives are to re-seed with native grasses and forbs. This project incorporates these public purposes: The information, products and/or services identified or developed by this project will be shared through a variety of strategies to increase public awareness, knowledge and support for historic preservation and stewardship of the nation's cultural and historical heritage. The principal purpose of the project is to support the Government's objective to provide opportunities for youth to learn about the environment by spending time working on projects in National Parks. The NPS receives the indirect benefit of completing conservation projects.

NRCS, an agency under the USDA, in the Missouri State Office, is seeking to partner with, and support the efforts of, natural resource conservation partners and to promote public awareness and implementation of Farm Bill activities including, but not limited to, conducting conservation outreach workshops, conferences, and training, that will help educate Missouri's farm community, private landowners, conservation organizations, cooperating agencies, and general citizenry. This FOA supports the establishment of a Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute on Modular Chemical Process Intensification. Modular chemical process intensification represents an emerging opportunity for processing industries in the U.S. manufacturing sector to improve energy efficiency, reduce feedstock waste, increase scalability and improve productivity by merging and integrating separate unit processes (mixing, reactions, separation) into single modular hardware elements of reduced size, higher efficiency and scalability. Focus on energy awareness with special publics, increasing interest in technical careers among students and professional development in science and math among educators. We support K-12 programs that boost math and science skills, as well as university programs that aid engineering and geoscience students and departments. Shell funds projects at vocational and technical schools where chemical and refinery operators and technicians are trained. We are especially interested in supporting educational outreach in math, science and technology to women/minority students and academic institutions with ethnically diverse enrollments. Focus on biodiversity initiatives with support to programs that restore critical ecosystems, address water, air quality research, preserve wetlands and sponsor wetlands initiatives. As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship, we support projects that restore and protect critical ecosystems. In addition to restoration and preservation efforts, we fund research projects for threatened wildlife and/or habitats.

Grants will fund projects related to the Waitt Foundation mission of supporting sustainable fishing and marine protected areas (MPAs). This includes sub-themes of: Scientific Research - Includes natural science or social science projects. For example, collecting baseline data before coastal development or MPA establishment, or studying fishery effects of a natural (e.g. tsunami) or man-made (e.g. oil spill) disaster. Policy - Includes opportunistic projects around unique public policy windows, such as preparation of policy analysis and support of experts' efforts to inform decision makers on upcoming government actions. For example, a cost-benefit analysis of proposed fishing regulations, or travel expenses for a delegation of scientists to educate elected officials. Management - Includes enforcement and infrastructure support. For example, stop-gap funding to increase enforcement capacity in light of a sudden uptick in illegal dynamite fishing, or training personnel to enforce new regulations about to go into effect. Communications - Includes raising public awareness and engaging stakeholders, including advertising by a 501(c)3 group around a public policy moment. For example, a PR blitz (e.g. billboards or radio adds) to educate the public in advance of government action on an ocean conservation measure, or training local people to become citizen scientists or enforcement tipsters.

The Public Communications Award is presented by the Society of Toxicology to recognize an individual who has made a major contribution to broadening the awareness of the general public on toxicological issues through any aspect of public communications. The award should reflect accomplishments over a significant period of time. Examples of qualifying media in which the nominated communication may appear include books, brochures, continuing education courses, data bases, extension bulletins, magazines, newspapers (local or national), public presentations, public forums, radio and television scripts, and workshops.

The Education Committee solicits proposals for funding visits of toxicologists to developing nations to expand awareness of toxicology and promote toxicology careers through interaction of toxicologists with undergraduate and graduate students. Up to $1250 funding is available per request. The L'Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program is a national awards program that annually recognizes and rewards five U.S.-based women researchers at the beginning of their scientific careers. Recipients receive up to $60,000 each that they must put towards their postdoctoral research. The program's partner, AAAS, manages the peer-review process. Launched in 2003 as the U.S. Fellowships component of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Fellowship program, the program aim to: Raise awareness of the contribution of women to the sciences Identify exceptional female researchers in the U.S. to serve as role models for younger generations An inter-disciplinary panel of scientists reviews all applications submitted. The top candidates chosen by the review panel are then forwarded for final selection to a distinguished Jury of career scientists and former North American L'ORÉAL-UNESCO For Women in Science Laureates. The Jury seeks candidates with exceptional academic records and intellectual merit, clearly articulated research proposals with the potential for scientific advancement and outstanding letters of recommendation from advisers. The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) intends to issue, on behalf of the Fuel Cell Technologies Office, a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) entitled ?Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Research, Development, and Demonstrations?. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will cover a broad spectrum of the FCTO portfolio with topics ranging from research and development (R&D) to demonstration and deployment projects. In particular, the R&D areas of interest for this FOA include hydrogen production via microbial biomass conversion; low PGM catalyst development for PEM fuel cell applications; development of an integrated intelligent hydrogen dispenser; and fuel cell and hydrogen manufacturing R&D focusing on hydrogen delivery pipeline manufacturing R&D. The office invests in innovative research efforts that securely integrate more solar energy into the grid, enhance the use, storage and dispatch of solar energy, and lower solar electricity costs. Through this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) the BLM is seeking to engage a cooperator/partner to assist with developing and managing an outreach, education and volunteer stewardship program that promotes shared conservation stewardship and responsible use of recreational opportunities on the public lands of the National Conservation Areas (NCA), in particular Gunnison Gorge. Expanded access may include the following activities: hiking, biking, OHV, hunting, camping, fishing, and a variety of recreational pursuits for various user groups. In addition, the BLM seeks a partner to encourage responsible use through shared conservation of public lands; instill in the public the importance of and appreciation for natural and cultural resources; promote awareness develop a cadre of local citizen stewards; and enhance the quality of recreational opportunities available for NCA visitors.

This will require a coordinated effort, as Montanaâ¿¿s intermingled land ownership patterns make it impossible to fight this battle alone. For example, a single lake may have multiple entities managing the shoreline. If only one area were treated, the untreated areas would likely serve as a source area for re-invasion. The project will include detection, eradication, education (prevention), and monitoring. All four of these steps are key to the success of the project. Implement actions to prevent, control, and contain including education and awareness monitoring and reporting aquatic invasive species in cooperation between Bureau of Land Management Districts through implementation of cooperative agreements. Promote the Bureau of Land Management interests in an Integrated Weed management (IWM) system approach to undesirable plants and aquatic invasive species. Implement an IWM system using all available methods or a combination of methods including: (1) the most efficient and effective method of preventing, containing, or controlling undesirable plants species; (2) scientific evidence and current technology; (3) the physiology and habitat of a plant species; and (4) the economic, social, and ecological consequences of implementing the program

To raise awareness on wildlife trafficking within mail facilities and improve cooperation and coordination on wildlife interdiction between mail facility workers, wildlife authorities, and customs officials.

Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) in collaboration with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has maintained a long-standing relationship in the development and advancement of the Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (PEHSU) Program, through ongoing cooperative agreements initiated by ATSDR. The PEHSU serves health professionals, community organizations, governmental officials, federal staff, child-care providers, parents, and others having interest in environmental conditions that influence reproductive and pediatric health. Primary focuses of the PEHSU are to: (1) Build the capacity of primary care clinicians to recognize environmental exposure risks, provide risk reduction counseling, and deliver patient care to those at risk of or harm from acute or chronic exposures to hazardous substances in the environment. (2) Integrate environmental health content, placing emphasis on hazardous substances in the environment and related health effects, into pre-service clinical (i.e., medical, nursing, and allied health) course work; and primary care residency programs (i.e., clinicians in pediatrics, family medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology). (3) Increase patient and population awareness of environmental exposure risks and ways to reduce those risks. (4) Provide education and consultative services to community members, clinicians, state and local health departments, appropriate federal programs, and others involved in protecting children and couples of reproductive age from environmental threats. (5) Provide educational and consultative assistance in communities where ATSDR and/or Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are addressing environmental contamination.

The Honeybee Conservancy is inviting applications for in-kind grants to help organizations or schools safely set up, maintain, and observe on-site bee sanctuaries at schools, community gardens, and green spaces across the United States. Through its Sponsor-A-Hive program, the conservancy will award grants in the form of honey or solitary bees, their homes, beekeeping equipment, and information on how to care for the bees. With the assistance of the conservancy, bees are placed strategically in locations where they can bolster local bee populations, advance science and environmental education, and pollinate locally grown food. The conservancy will also provide a Sponsor-A-Hive Teacher's Kit, which includes lesson plans and worksheets designed to teach students more about their bee home and build their reading and science skills, raise their environmental awareness, and empower them to help the bees. To be eligible, applicants must be located in the United States and be a nonprofit organization; elementary, middle, or high school; college or university; tribal education agency; environmental center; or a food bank or community garden that does not charge a membership fee. In addition, applicant organizations must have been in existence for at least a year to be eligible to receive materials.
