AERA Invites Applications for Minority Dissertation Fellowship in Education Research - 0 views

    The American Educational Research Association is accepting applications for its AERA Minority Dissertation Fellowship in Education Research. The annual program provides support for doctoral dissertation research, to advance education research by outstanding minority graduate students, and to improve the quality and diversity of university faculties. The fellowship offers doctoral fellowships to enhance the competitiveness of outstanding minority scholars for academic appointments at major research universities. It supports fellows conducting education research and provides mentoring and guidance toward the completion of their doctoral studies. The dissertation study should focus on an education research topic such as high-stakes testing; ethnic studies/curriculum; tracking; STEM development; measurement of achievement and opportunity gaps; English-language learners; or bullying and restorative justice. Applicants can come from graduate programs and departments in education research, the humanities, or social or behavioral science disciplinary or interdisciplinary fields such as economics, political science, psychology, or sociology.

    The purpose of the IR-4 program is to enable the crop protection industry to provide safe, effective, and economical crop protection products for growers and consumers of minor/specialty crops. The crop protection industry cannot justify the costs associated with the research and development, registration, production, and marketing of crop protection products for minor/specialty crops due to the smaller market base and limited sales potential. The IR-4 program provides the assistance needed to ensure that new and more effective crop protection products are developed and made available to minor/specialty crop producers. These efforts require effective collaborations among federal agencies, the crop protection industry, and land-grant colleges and universities.

    The Office of Research on Womens Health (ORWH) announces the availability of administrative supplements to support interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research focused on the effect of sex/gender influences at the intersection of a number of social determinants, including but not limited to: race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, education, health literacy and other social determinants in human health and illness. This research includes preclinical, clinical and behavioral studies with the specific purpose to provide Administrative Supplements to active NIH parent grants for one year to address health disparities among women of populations in the US who are understudied, underrepresented and underreported in biomedical research. The proposed research must address an area specified within Objective 3.9 (Goal 3.0) of the NIH Strategic Plan for Research on Womens Health which states: Examine health disparities among women stemming from differences in such factors as race and ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender identity, and urban-rural living, as they influence health, health behaviors, and access to screening and therapeutic interventions. Projects must include a focus on one or more NIH-designated health disparities populations, which include Blacks/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, underserved rural populations, and sexual and gender minorities (SGM). Combinations of one or more populations is also encouraged, e.g. socioeconomically disadvantaged sexual and gender minorities.

Community-based Approaches to Strengthening Economic Supports for Working Families - 0 views

    This notice solicits applications for projects under the Community-based Approaches to Strengthening Economic Supports for Working Families Initiative to serve low-income working families disproportionately at risk for adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), including racial and ethnic minority families. This initiative seeks to determine if implementation of earned income tax credit outreach and education activities in communities at higher risk for ACEs can result in (1) increased EITC receipt and (2) changes in risk and/or protective factors for ACEs. OMH expects recipients to demonstrate effective outreach strategies to communities disproportionately at higher risk for ACEs, including racial and ethnic minority communities, and a collaborative multi-sectoral approach which should include partners in community-level sectors and community-based organizations, such as social services agencies, child support agencies, home visiting programs, early childhood service providers, housing agencies, business/labor organizations, and health systems. In the long term, OMH expects projects to lead formalized and sustainable systems change and enhanced partnerships that foster economic stability in order to prevent ACEs. OMH anticipates funding up to six grants for $300,000 to $450,000 each per year, for up to three years.

    Candidates must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in chemistry, computational or evolutionary molecular biology, computer science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, ocean sciences (including marine biology), physics, or a related field; Candidates must hold a tenure track (or equivalent) position at a college, university or other degree-granting institution in the United States or Canada;  Candidates must normally be no more than six years from completion of their most recent Ph.D. (or equivalent) as of the year of their nomination.  (That is, most recent Ph.D. must have been awarded on or after September 2007.)** While Fellows are expected to be at an early stage of their research careers, there should be strong evidence of independent research accomplishments. Candidates in all fields are normally below the rank of associate professor and do not hold tenure, but these are not strict requirements. The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation welcomes nominations of all candidates who meet the traditional high standards of this program, and strongly encourages the participation of women and members of underrepresented minority groups.

    The Science of Science & Innovation Policy (SciSIP) program supports research designed to advance the scientific basis of science and innovation policy. Research funded by the program thus develops, improves and expands models, analytical tools, data and metrics that can be applied in the science policy decision making process. For example, research proposals may develop behavioral and analytical conceptualizations, frameworks or models that have applications across a broad array of SciSIP challenges, including the relationship between broader participation and innovation or creativity. Proposals may also develop methodologies to analyze science and technology data, and to convey the information to a variety of audiences.     The goal of this funding opportunity is to translate and adapt knowledge from around the world to the United States on approaches that can improve health or the determinants of health by improving gender equity. In the United States, determinants of health relate to personal safety, economic opportunity, education access (post-secondary or beyond), supportive workplace and social environments, and protection from bias and discrimination for vulnerable groups. Specifically, we seek to learn from initiatives underway outside the United States whose effectiveness is supported or suggested by empirical evidence and that have the potential to be adapted and implemented in the United States.     The Resident Opportunity & Self Sufficiency (ROSS) Service Coordinator (SC) program funds eligible applicants to hire Service Coordinators to coordinate use of assistance under the Public Housing program with public and private resources, for supportive services and resident empowerment activities. Service Coordinators assess the needs of public and Indian housing residents and link them to supportive services that enable participants to increase earned income, reduce or eliminate the need for welfare assistance, and make progress toward achieving economic independence and housing self-sufficiency.     The goal of this DCL is to encourage partnerships with and among MSIs in order to promote fundamental research, perspectives, and ideas in the SBE sciences. NSF's hope is that this new initiative will build capacity at MSIs for SBE-related research and provide researchers with new ways to diversify and energize their research teams. NSF anticipates funding up to 10 conferences pursuant to this DCL, subject to the availability of funds and the quality of proposals received. Proposals may address any of the scientific areas supported by SBE. Proposals can come directly from HBCUs, HSIs, TCUs and other MSIs, or from any other NSF-eligible research entity. Proposers are strongly encouraged to plan to host and design conferences at the MSI campus identified in the proposal.
