This NCIPC Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) seeks to provide support for an intensive, supervised (mentored) career development experience in violence prevention research leading to research independence. Applicants must identify an experienced mentor and, co-mentor(s) as applicable to supervise the proposed career development and research experience. Applicants must have a qualifying (relevant to the field of study) research or health- professional doctoral or medical degree (specifically PhD, ScD, DO, DrPH, MD, DVMD) and less than five years of experience as a researcher in the injury and/or violence prevention field. Applicants must propose violence prevention research to 1) assess the effectiveness of an intervention to prevent one or more forms of violence impacting children and youth ages 0-17 years (i.e., child abuse and neglect, youth violence, teen dating violence, or sexual violence) or to prevent intimate partner violence, sexual violence, or self-directed violence; 2) assess violence outcomes (e.g., victimization or perpetration) or key risk or protective factors; and 3) focus on one of the interpersonal violence prevention research gaps in the NCIPC Research Priorities (https://www.cdc.gov/injury/researchpriorities/index.html).

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is soliciting investigator-initiated research that will help expand and advance our understanding about what works to prevent violence that impacts children and youth, collectively referred to as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), including child abuse and neglect, teen dating violence, sexual violence, youth violence, and exposure to adult intimate partner violence. This initiative is intended to support the evaluation of primary prevention strategies, programs, or policies that target universal or selected high-risk populations (i.e., populations that have one or more risk factors that place them at heightened risk for perpetration of violence). Funds are available to conduct such studies focused on preventing child abuse and neglect and at least one other form of violence affecting children and youth, including teen dating violence, sexual violence, youth violence and exposure to adult intimate partner violence as detailed elsewhere in this announcement.

NIJ is seeking multidisciplinary research and evaluation proposals related to childhood exposure to violence. Such violence may include children who are direct victims and/or bystanders or observers of various forms of violence in the home, school, or community, including but not limited to peer victimization, bullying, harassment, child maltreatment, domestic violence, and community violence. Other types of violence to which children are exposed may be addressed, with the exception of media violence (e.g., television and movie violence, music advocating aggression, and violent video games). In particular, NIJ seeks proposals that address justice system responses to children identified as being exposed to violence; polyvictimization and multisystem involvement; and resilience and help-seeking.

The most recent survey by the Moroccan High Commission for Planning, published in 2011, found that 62.8 percent of women aged 18 to 65 had experienced physical, psychological, sexual, or economic violence within the prior 12 months. Further, 55 percent of women surveyed reported domestic violence and 13.5 per cent reported family violence. Less than 3 percent of women who had experienced domestic violence had reported it to the authorities. Both national and international civil society reports indicate that of women who do report abuse to authorities, many do not receive the assistance required by existing Moroccan law and procedure. This has been attributed to a lack of a clear legal framework specific to gender-based violence (GBV) - draft law 103-13 on combatting violence against women remains pending - as well as social stigma, and limited awareness and implementation of existing GBV protections and reforms. The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that help combat gender-based violence in Morocco. DRL's objective for this program is to enhance the ability of Moroccan government and civil society stakeholders engaging on GBV to advance survivor-centered protections. All proposals should include efforts that bring together key stakeholders, including justice and security sector actors, to promote effectiveness and accountability in gender-based violence prevention and response. This project seeks to strengthen the entire value chain of judicial response to gender-based violence and domestic violence. Specifically, the development of a comprehensive approach to gender-based violence and domestic violence cases including therapy services, legal orientation for victims, improved traceability of at high risk victims, police investigations, prosecutorial duties and convictions aligned to the current laws in Costa Rica. The selected implementer must work closely with Poder Judicial's Gender Unit and Judicial Police Office for International Affairs, as well as with key institutional leaders and unit chiefs, to strengthen the capacity of Costa Rica's judicial response to gender-based violence and domestic violence. Identify needs, plan trainings, coordinate site visits to relevant partners in the United States such as Family Justice Centers and develop standard operating procedures to improve Judicial response to gender-based violence and domestic violence.

The U.S. government believes in encouraging the development and implementation of innovative programs to permit local governments in the prevention of Gender Based Violence and Domestic Violence the community. INL Costa Rica emboldens local governments and local law enforcement agencies in reorienting the emphasis of their activities from reacting to Gender Based Violence and Domestic Violence to preventing and providing quality services to Gender Based Violence and Domestic Violence victims. To support INL and U.S. Government gender initiatives in Costa Rica, INL has allocated up to $250,000 USD for the a project to build capacity of Local Governments to prevent and provide services to Gender Based Violence and Domestic Violence victims, which can be awarded for up to 24 months.

The Legal Assistance for Victims (LAV) Grant Program is intended to increase the availability of civil and criminal legal assistance needed to effectively aid adult and youth victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking who are seeking relief in legal matters relating to or arising out of that abuse or violence, at minimum or no cost to the victims. LAV Grant Program funds may not be used provide criminal defense services. Grant funds may be used to provide direct legal services to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking in matters related to or arising out of that abuse or violence. The objective of the LAV Grant Program is to develop innovative, collaborative projects that provide quality representation to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.

NIJ is seeking applications for the funding of research and program evaluation projects that inform efforts to prevent and reduce intentional, interpersonal firearm violence and public mass shootings in the United States. NIJ will support scientifically rigorous research and evaluation projects designed to strengthen the knowledge base and produce findings with the high practical utility to improve public safety. While NIJ will consider applications for relevant, scientifically rigorous research and evaluation projects designed to produce findings that address firearm violence, NIJ is particularly interested in applications in the following four areas: (1) Evaluate prevention or intervention programs and/or policies aiming to reduce firearm violence; (2) Examine the defensive use of firearms and its impact on firearm violence; (3) Examine the impact of plea bargaining firearm charges on firearm violence, and (4) Improve the understanding of mass shooters and mass shooting incidents to inform prevention efforts at a local level. This solicitation supports the U.S. Department of Justice’s priority to prevent and reduce gun crimes, gun violence related victimization, and the wide range of criminal activities related to firearm violence.

The purposes of the NCIPC extramural violence prevention research program are to: 1. Build the scientific base for the prevention of violence by helping to expand and advance our understanding of the primary prevention of interpersonal violence. 2. Encourage professionals from a wide spectrum of disciplines of epidemiology, behavioral and social sciences, medicine, biostatistics, public health, health economics, law, and criminal justice to perform research in order to prevent violence more effectively. 3. Encourage investigators to propose research that involves the development and testing of primary prevention strategies, programs and policies designed to prevent interpersonal violence and reduce violence-related outcomes as well as dissemination, implementation, and translation research to enhance the adoption and maintenance of effective strategies among individuals, organizations, or communities.

Violence against women continues to affect millions of women and girls each year. Racial and ethnic minority women have a higher documented risk of violence victimization. Recent statistics have identified other priority communities at elevated risk such as the incarcerated, the elderly, and adolescents. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will encourage a focus on preventing and responding to violence against women in these and other priority communities. Harmful social norms, including social constructs around what it means to be a woman or a man, contribute to the risk of perpetrating violence against women. As such, this FOA encourages applications from organizations and coalitions working to prevent violence against women by transforming harmful gender norms through women's empowerment and male engagement efforts. Preliminary evaluation results of OWH's previous work to improve community responses to violence against women highlights the critical need to link women to services from multiple sectors including but not limited to legal assistance; law enforcement; mental health services; substance abuse treatments; and housing. This FOA also encourages applications from organizations and coalitions using multisectoral approaches to provide response services to affected women in their communities.

NIJ seeks investigator-initiated applications for funding for research and evaluation related to reducing firearms violence and understanding the causes and effects of firearms violence. This solicitation aims to strengthen our knowledge base and improve public safety by producing findings with practical implications for reducing firearms violence. This solicitation is focused specifically on producing research related to intentional, interpersonal firearms violence. NIJ is particularly interested in supporting research related to the following three areas identified in the 2013 report by the Institute of Medicine and National Research Council titled Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence: (1) the characteristics of firearm violence; (2) risk and protective factors; and (3) interventions and strategies.

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) recognizes that preventing and ameliorating youth violence requires a shared framework to address the factors that impact violence and victimization at the individual, peer, family, community, and societal levels and promote child and youth well-being. Jurisdictions that work to address these issues benefit from strategic, coordinated training and technical assistance (TTA) and participation in learning communities to help them reach their short- and long-term goals. To facilitate progress, better support youth violence prevention, and promote well-being in localities nationwide, OJJDP invites proposals to broker, coordinate, and provide relevant TTA to the 39 jurisdictions that OJJDP is funding through its three signature youth violence prevention initiatives-the Defending Childhood, National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention, and Community-Based Violence Prevention initiatives. OJJDP invites organizations that preferably represent a partnership or consortium of entities as described in the Eligibility section on the title page to submit applications. The United States Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) (www.ovw.usdoj.gov) is pleased to announce that it is seeking applications for the Fiscal Year 2016 Rural Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking Assistance Program. This program furthers the Department's mission by supporting projects designed to address and prevent sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking in rural jurisdictions.

NIJ is interested in supporting research on the criminal justice system's responses to intimate partner violence, teen dating violence, sexual violence, and stalking, generally, and related to violence against American Indian and Alaska Native women.

The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is seeking applications from qualified organizations for Injury Control Research Center (ICRC) grants. These centers will conduct high quality research and help translate scientific discoveries into practice for the prevention and control of fatal and nonfatal injuries and violence that support NCIPC’s priorities and mission. ICRCs are expected to blend Outreach, Training and Education, and Research activities into a program to reduce the number, risk, and public health impact of injury and violence in the U.S. The over-arching goals for the NCIPC ICRC program are to: Build the scientific base for the prevention and control of fatal and nonfatal injuries and violence. Integrate, in the context of a national program, professionals from a wide spectrum of disciplines of epidemiology, behavioral and social sciences, medicine, biostatistics, public health, health economics, law, criminal justice, and engineering to perform research and provided technical expertise in order to prevent and control injuries and/or violence more effectively. Encourage investigators to propose research that involves intervention development or translation of effective programs among individuals, organizations, or communities. Provide technical assistance to injury and/or violence prevention and control programs in their geographic region, including other researchers; universities; medical institutions; community groups; state and local government agencies, public health agencies; and policy makers. Act as sources of injury and/or violence prevention and control information for their constituents and stakeholders at the local, state, tribal, national, and global levels.

NIJ seeks a research consortium focused on topical areas related to violence against women to include domestic and intimate partner violence, sexual violence, stalking, and teen dating violence. The research consortium is expected to be an interdisciplinary team of researchers representing expertise broadly across violence against women. The research consortium will support NIJ in a variety of research, evaluation, and planning tasks throughout the duration of the award. The project will be awarded in the form of a cooperative agreement, which allows NIJ to serve as a partner and collaborator.

The National Violence Against Women Law Enforcement Training and Technical Assistance Consortium (NLETC) to support the training and technical assistance (TTA) needs of state, tribal, territorial, and local law enforcement agencies, sworn officers, and civilian staff that will enhance and strengthen law enforcement responses to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The NLETC will also provide targeted TTA to tribal law enforcement on sex trafficking. The NLETC reflects OVW's commitment to ensuring that law enforcement responses to and investigations of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking are victim-centered, can aid in successful prosecution, and empower victims to heal and achieve safety and justice.

The Campus Program encourages a comprehensive coordinated community approach that enhances victim safety, provides services for victims and supports efforts to hold offenders accountable. The funding supports activities that develop and strengthen trauma informed victim services and strategies to prevent, investigate, respond and prosecute sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking. The development of campus-wide coordinated responses involving campus victim service providers, law enforcement/campus safety officers, health providers, housing officials, administrators, student leaders, faith-based leaders, representatives from student organizations, and disciplinary board members is critical. To be effective, campus responses must also link to local off-campus criminal justice agencies and service providers, including local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors' offices, courts, and nonprofit, nongovernmental victim advocacy and victim services organizations. Campuses are encouraged to create or revitalize large-scale efforts that treat sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking as serious offenses by adopting effective policies and protocols, developing victim services and programs that prioritize victim safety, ensuring offender accountability, and implementing effective prevention approaches. Colleges and universities should demonstrate to every student that these crimes will not be tolerated, that perpetrators will face serious consequences, and that holistic services are available for victims.
