OARS funding Conservation

The NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Grant Program, 16 USC §§ 6401-6409, provides matching grants of financial assistance through the Domestic Coral Reef Conservation Grant program to institutions of higher education, non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, and local (as defined at 2 CFR § 200.64, which includes counties, municipalities, and cities) and Indian tribal government agencies. These awards are intended to support coral reef conservation projects in shallow water coral reef ecosystems, including reefs at mesophotic depths, in American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Florida, Guam, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and coral-dominated banks in the U.S. portions of the Gulf of Mexico. Projects may be proposed in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and the U.S. Pacific Remote Island Areas, but these locations are not considered geographic priorities under this announcement. Proposals submitted to this competition must address at least one of the following four categories: 1) Fishing Impacts; 2) Land-Based Sources of Pollution; 3) Climate Change; and 4) Local and Emerging Management Issues. Each category is described in more detail in the Federal Funding Opportunity announcement. All proposed work must be consistent with Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) National Goals and Objectives 2010-2015

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is soliciting applications from eligible applicants as described in Section III.A to provide training and technical assistance for small public water systems to help such systems achieve and maintain compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), and to provide training and technical assistance for small publicly owned wastewater systems, communities served by onsite/decentralized wastewater systems, and private well owners to improve water quality under the Clean Water Act (CWA). Training and technical assistance activities provided to these systems, communities and private well owners should be made available nationally in rural and urban communities and to personnel of tribally- owned and operated systems.

Through Grand Challenges for Development (GCD), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and its partners are sourcing, selecting, and accelerating science, technology, and business model innovations that have the potential to achieve large-scale development impact. Securing Water for Food: A Grand Challenge for Development (SWFF) is part of a portfolio of 7 GCDs, each tackling a critical and complex development challenge. SWFF's objective is to enable the production of more food with less water and/or make more water available for food production, processing, and distribution in developing and emerging countries. It is jointly funded by USAID, the South African Department of Science and Technology, Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), and the Foreign Ministry of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (collectively, the "Founding Partners"). This is the fourth Call for Proposals (RFA) under Securing Water for Food.

The Atmospheric System Research Program (ASR) in the Climate and Environmental Sciences Division (CESD), Office of Biological and Environmental Research (BER) of the Office of Science (SC), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), supports research on key cloud, aerosol, precipitation, and radiative transfer processes that has the potential to improve the accuracy of regional and global climate models. The ASR program hereby announces its interest in research grant applications for observational, data analysis, and/or modeling studies that use data from CESD, including the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Climate Research Facility and the ASR program, to improve understanding and model representation of convective cloud processes, boundary layer cloud processes, and secondary organic aerosol processes, and to pursue ASR-relevant research using observations from recent ARM field campaigns.

The Western Section of The Wildlife Society (TWS-WS) has historically supported conferences and symposia and studies through grants. Board members review all funding requests and make selections based on the following criteria: Applicant must be a member of TWS-WS; Consistency with TWS purposes and objectives as cited in the Western Section By-Laws; Timeliness and relevance: Local, regional, or national level; Proposals must demonstrate a clear need for funding and should define a time-line for project implementation, endorsement, and/or financial support of local TWS Chapter; Demonstration of shared costs; a detailed budget showing amount and use of TWS-WS grant is required; Quality and brevity of submitted request; Availability of funds and amount of funding requested; Ability of the applicant to successfully implement the proposed project; and Conference or symposium organizers receiving grant funding must submit a schedule of proposed sessions. The Section will award grants up to a maximum of $1,000 (depending on availability of funds) for a single project or event. There is no grant award minimum. Matching funds and partnerships are not required. Any partners providing funds or in-kind services must be listed in the proposal with a letter of commitment from each.

MASNA is a non-profit organization composed of marine aquarium societies and individual hobbyists from North America and abroad, totaling several thousand individuals. MASNA operates from a central Board of Directors elected each year by the delegates from the member societies at the Marine Aquarium Conference of North America, (MACNA). This year there are two scholarships available: one scholarship for a college undergraduate student and one scholarship for a college graduate student.

Wildlife Acoustics' mission is to support efforts in conservation and environmental stewardship. Wildlife Acoustics wants to enable those involved in animal biology, research and conservation to do their best work easily and quickly. To that end, Wildlife Acoustics has established a grant program to support bioacoustics research efforts from chiropteran, avian, terrestrial, amphibious and marine wildlife, to everything else in between. 

The International Herpetological Symposium (IHS) has established a grant program to provide financial assistance to individuals or organizations conducting herpetological research, conservation, and education. Grants are available annually in amounts up to $1000 and will be awarded to applicants whose projects represent a significant contribution to herpetology in one of the areas listed below: Herpetological Natural History: Proposals in this category should address new field research in areas such as population ecology, behavior, and life history strategies of amphibians or reptiles. Herpetological Conservation Biology: Proposals in this category should address new research on threatened, imperiled, or a surrogate for such amphibian or reptile species, or the phenomena that affect the maintenance, decline, and restoration of their natural habitat. Captive Propagation: Proposals in this category should address research in captive behavioral studies or new techniques in captive maintenance and breeding of amphibians or reptiles. Herpetological Education: Proposals in this category should address starting and/or maintaining an educational program pertaining to amphibians or reptiles at a facility available to the public, such as a zoological park, school, or community center.

Established by the Roger Williams Park Zoo and the Rhode Island Zoological Society in 1989, the Sophie Danforth Conservation Biology Fund (SDCBF) supports conservation programs that protect threatened wildlife and habitats worldwide. Field studies and other projects that demonstrate a multi-disciplinary approach to biodiversity and ecosystem conservation and projects that involve in-country collaborators receive the highest funding priority. Environmental education programs, development of techniques that can be used in a natural environment, and captive propagation programs that stress an integrative approach to conservation are also appropriate. Projects must directly affect biological conservation.

As a Pacific Northwest sport fishing organization, we support undergraduate or graduate research on recreationally important fish species or groups in order to maintain and protect our region's resources for this and future generations of sportsmen. Our emphasis is on the ecology, recovery and management of west coast finfish, with particular attention to salmonids and other select marine species. We will be looking for students wishing to continue their education in fisheries, with an emphasis in fish management.

ABC Wildlife humanely manages urban wildlife and insects in the interest of human health and safety from an environmental sustainability perspective with a love of nature and a deep respect for all living things. ABC Wildlife has offered humane wildlife removal services to the Chicagoland area for over 35 years.  As a woman-owned corporation operating in a largely male field, ABC Wildlife understands the remarkable impact women can have when allowed to break through. We want to pave the way for other women pursuing their dreams in the scientific world, which is why ABC Wildlife is introducing a scholarship designed to increase the number of women studying and influencing the future of science, including technology, engineering and math.

The Dean Amadon Grant is designed to assist persons working in the area of distribution and systematics (taxonomy) of raptors. Systematics covers a wide array of interests from molecular work to differential migration of populations from various geographic regions, for example. Distribution also covers a wide array of interests but should have something to do with where raptors live or why they are there.

The International Pacific Halibut Commission funds several Merit Scholarships to support university, technical college, and other post-secondary education. The scholarship fund has been established to assist the further education of Canadian and U.S. students connected to the halibut fishery and its industry. 

Grants of up to £1,500 are available to cover the travel and accommodation costs associated with the applicant pursuing a field-based genetic research project. The research field should be one producing results that would typically be suitable for publication in the Society's journal Heredity.  The scheme is not intended to cover the costs of fieldworkers other than the applicant, to cover the costs of salaries for those engaged in fieldwork, or to fund attendance at conferences. However, equipment necessary for carrying out fieldwork may be covered (within reason).

The Pamela and Alexander F. Skutch Research Award supports minimally invasive research into the life histories, especially social relations and reproduction, of little known birds of the continental Neotropics, including Trinidad and Tobago.

Research Grants are given to qualified individuals or teams who are members of the NSS by the time the proposal is submitted for research-support in cave-related branches of study. This includes, but is not limited to, natural sciences (e.g., cave biology, geology, paleontology, and hydrology), social sciences (e.g., archaeology), and the humanities (e.g., speleological history). We also welcome interdisciplinary proposals. Grants applications will be evaluated for their potential to generate new information and insights that are suitable for submission to peer-reviewed publications. 

Provide support for research compatible with the mission of The Research Ranch: Mission Statement: To be a living laboratory to determine and demonstrate methods to safeguard and restore southwestern grasslands, and to assist policy makers and other citizens in the care and protection of our native ecosystems, natural resources, and quality of life. Eligibility: Undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled full time in an accredited college or university. Awards: Range from $500 - $2,500. Support for this program is through income earned by an endowment established specifically for these fellowships and from direct contributions.

The U.S. Forest Service will support projects in the Great Lakes basin that implement the following strategic, priority actions: * restore tree canopy lost to infestation by emerald ash borer * create or improve green infrastructure through the planting of trees and other vegetation as part of a local management strategy to maintain and enhance urban watersheds. * restore the structure and function of coastal wetlands and lake-affected riparian areas through planting of native trees and diverse vegetation.

Furbearers Unlimited is dedicated to the promotion of research and proper management of furbearing species, to insure a harmonious balance of cohabitation with other species within their respective eco-systems.

This grant is open globally to any student, professional, or amateur and should focus on those interested in research and conservation on terns and gulls. Financial and education status of applicants are not considerations. Selection is made by a committee based on the applicant's likelihood of publishing timely and substantial contributions to the literature and/or making a contribution to the conservation of waterbirds. Depending on the scientific merit of the competition, awards will be offered in most years - one or more awards in the $1,000 range will be given.
