The Hydrologic Sciences Program focuses on the fluxes of water in the environment that constitute the water cycle as well as the mass and energy transport function of the water cycle in the environment.  The Program supports studying processes from rainfall to runoff to infiltration and streamflow; evaporation and transpiration; as well as the flow of water in soils and aquifers and the transport of suspended, dissolved and colloidal components.  Water is seen as the mode of coupling among various components of the environment and emphasis is placed on how the coupling is enabled by the water cycle and how it functions as a process.  The Hydrologic Sciences Program retains a strong focus on linking the fluxes of water and the components carried by water across the boundaries between various interacting components of the terrestrial system and the mechanisms by which these fluxes co-organize over a variety of timescales and/or alter the fundamentals of the interacting components.  The Program is also interested in how water interacts with the solid phase, the landscape and the ecosystem as well as how such interactions and couplings are altered by land use and climate change.  Studies may address aqueous geochemistry and solid phase interactions as well as physical, chemical, and biological processes as coupled to water transport. These studies commonly involve expertise from basic sciences and mathematics, and proposals may require joint review with related programs.  The Hydrologic Sciences Program will also consider some synthesis activities.

This ROSES NRA (NNH15ZDA001N) solicits basic and applied research in support of NASA's Science Mission Directorate (SMD). This NRA covers all aspects of basic and applied supporting research and technology in space and Earth sciences, including, but not limited to: theory, modeling, and analysis of SMD science data; aircraft, scientific balloon, sounding rocket, International Space Station, CubeSat and suborbital reusable launch vehicle investigations; development of experiment techniques suitable for future SMD space missions; development of concepts for future SMD space missions; development of advanced technologies relevant to SMD missions; development of techniques for and the laboratory analysis of both extraterrestrial samples returned by spacecraft, as well as terrestrial samples that support or otherwise help verify observations from SMD Earth system science missions; determination of atomic and composition parameters needed to analyze space data, as well as returned samples from the Earth or space; Earth surface observations and field campaigns that support SMD science missions; development of integrated Earth system models; development of systems for applying Earth science research data to societal needs; and development of applied information systems applicable to SMD objectives and data. Awards range from under $100K per year for focused, limited efforts (e.g., data analysis) to more than $1M per year for extensive activities (e.g., development of science experiment hardware). The funds available for awards in each program element offered in this ROSES NRA range from less than one to several million dollars, which allow selection from a few to as many as several dozen proposals depending on the program objectives and the submission of proposals of merit. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is soliciting applications from eligible applicants as described in Section III.A to provide training and technical assistance for small public water systems to help such systems achieve and maintain compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), and to provide training and technical assistance for small publicly owned wastewater systems, communities served by onsite/decentralized wastewater systems, and private well owners to improve water quality under the Clean Water Act (CWA). 2015 Forest Service National Urban and Community Forestry Challenge Cost Share Grant Deadline: December 15, 2015 The Secretary of Agriculture has a congressionally designated advisory council that assists the U.S. Forest Service in establishing the grant categories and recommendations of final proposals for the Forest Service to consider. This is the National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council (NUCFAC). The Council serves to advise the Secretary of Agriculture on the status of the nation's urban and community forests and related natural resources. The NUCFAC seeks to establish sustainable urban and community forests, by encouraging communities of all sizes to manage and protect their natural resources, which, if well managed, improves the public's health, well-being, economic vitality, and creates resilient ecosystems for present and future generations. The Council recommends urban and community forestry projects that have national or multi-state application and impact through the U.S. Forest Service's competitive Urban and Community Forestry Challenge Cost Share Grant Program. A partnership with a cooperator as outlined in this funding opportunity announcement will assure that these sites are frequently monitored by volunteers, site stewards, and/or personnel from the cooperator. In addition, there are several mining structures in need of historic preservation as well as interpretive activities over the lifetime of the agreement. This funding opportunity addresses the Secretary of Interiorâ¿¿s priorities of creating a conservation stewardship legacy second only to Teddy Roosevelt as well as ensuring greater public access to public lands. The Southwest Border Resource Protection Program (SWBRPP), located within the National Park Service (NPS) Intermountain Regional Office in Denver, provides financial assistance to NPS units, as well as educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, tribes, and local and state agencies to improve resource stewardship, achieve international cooperation, provide meaningful interpretation and conduct scientific research, which will lead to increased appreciation and understanding of our shared natural and cultural heritage along our international border with Mexico. Several National Parks located along the U.S. border with Mexico have recently experienced serious resource damage due to illegal cross border activities including drug traffickers and undocumented persons traversing the parks. Other national park units within the desert southwest have also experienced impacts to their natural and cultural resources. Thousands of miles of unauthorized roads and trails have been created, major ecological processes and the migration patterns of wildlife have been disrupted, important historic sites have been vandalized, and archaeological sites have been looted. Program funding is available for conducting scientific research and monitoring of species, as well as conservation, interpretation and preservation projects designed to help protect and preserve natural and cultural resources located near or along our international border.

The passive flux meter (PFM) is an innovative method developed at the University of Florida (UF) for measuring groundwater and contaminant flux at hazardous waste sites. The fundamental design has been modified for conducting studies at depths in excess of 100 feet. The PFM will focus on quantifying water flux at greater depth considering enhanced tracer removal with movement through well casing water. The PFMs will be deployed at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Reclamation will work with the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) to expend Basin States Program Salinity Funds for cost effective measures and associated works to reduce salinity from saline springs, leaking wells, irrigation sources, industrial sources, erosion of public and private land, or other sources; studies, planning, and administration of salinity control activities.

The Middle Rio Grande Endangered Species Act Collaborative Program was formed by Congress to support the recovery of listed endangered species in the Middle Rio Grande (MRG) and to protect existing and future water uses while complying with applicable state and federal laws, existing water rights, and the Rio Grande Impact. Operation of this facility will help promote recovery of the Rio Grande Silvery Minnow (RGSM) and increase its numbers in the wild through captive propagation and augmentation, as well as to maintain a captive population as a precautionary measure to prevent extinction from unforeseen catastrophe in the wild.

Sustaining habitat in the face of expanding energy development (wind, oil & gas, coal, solar, and nuclear) is one of the key challenges in managing for big game habitat across North America in the upcoming decades. Landscapes fragmented by open-pit mines, wind towers, well pads, pipelines, seismic and transmission lines, and roads can lead to direct (destruction or modification) and indirect (changes in behavior and ecological interactions) effects on big game that may have dramatic consequences locally, and cumulatively over large regions. As part of the Club's efforts to foster conservation of habitats on public and private lands, we are soliciting applications to support research that provides information for science-based management of big game habitat in the face of energy development.

BWF's Career Awards at the Scientific Interface provide $500,000 to bridge advanced postdoctoral training and the first three years of faculty service. These awards are intended to foster the early career development of researchers who have transitioned or are transitioning from undergraduate and/or graduate work in the physical/mathematical/computational sciences or engineering into postdoctoral work in the biological sciences, and who are dedicated to pursuing a career in academic research. These awards are open to U.S. and Canadian citizens or permanent residents as well as to U.S. temporary residents.

The tasks to be performed under this agreement are as follows: Task 1: Project Planning and Design The planning and design phase of the project will draw on work completed to date with information and analysis of existing site conditions completed by project team members. The Planning and Design process will include the following: Obtain and set up base maps for the project Develop an architectural design of greenhouse compatible with the existing historic structures including structural engineering Conduct an energy analysis including design of integrated system; for example a combination of alternative energy options. Complete final plans, including construction documents. Task 2: Determine Water Supply and Augmentation Needs The Recipient will determine demand and design water-related systems to irrigate greenhouse and outdoor plots. This task includes any water related engineering and legal services required to complete documents to legally use water for the project. Task 3: Determine Design of Outdoor Plots and Environmental Data Collection The Recipient will, with assistance from the Service, collect environmental data regarding existing conditions on the property as well as to assist in design of outdoor plots. Outdoor plots will be designed for optimal irrigation, drainage, plantings, and fencing. Task 4: Project Coordination The Recipient will provide overall project management and administrative oversight of the Upper Arkansas River NRDAR Native Plant Propagation at Hayden Ranch from greenhouse outdoor plot planning through implementing those plans.
