(1) This project will examine and test the feasibility of stabilizing large petrified redwood stumps using established methods of stone conservation. The petrified stumps at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument (FLFO) are the fundamental resource of the park. Of the approximately 30 stumps, five of these are actively deteriorating due to cracking, spalling and the loss of large fragments of petrified wood. Several stumps have many deep multidimensional fractures apparently resulting from the use of dynamite during their original excavation, and subsequent weathering including freeze-thaw cycling. They are exposed to accelerated natural and man-made weathering processes. Currently, vulnerable portions of the stumps are held in place only by steel banding that keeps loose fragments together. Risks to the stumps persist due to the combined action of freeze-thaw (loosening of fragments and spalling), gravity (falling of fragments), biological interactions (fracturing and defacement as a result of factors such as plant growth, burrows, and excrement), and theft (loss of fragments that are within reach of visitors). Possible ground salts activated through moisture, may also be a factor.

Mexico Standard Program's goal is to promote partnerships between public agencies and groups interested in protecting, improving, restoring, and managing an appropriate distribution and diversity of wetland ecosystems and other habitats for wetlands-associated migratory birds and other fish and wildlife in North America. A 1:1 match is required. This program supports the DOI and FWS mission of protecting and managing the nation's natural resources by collaborating with partners and stakeholders to conserve land and water and to expand outdoor recreation and access.

The purpose of the SARE program is to encourage research and outreach designed to increase knowledge concerning agricultural production systems that: (1) maintain and enhance the quality and productivity of the soil; (2) conserve soil, water, energy, natural resources, and fish and wildlife habitat; (3) maintain and enhance the quality of surface and ground water; (4) protect the health and safety of persons involved in the food and farm system; (5) promote the well-being of animals; and (6) increase employment opportunities in agriculture (7 U.S.C. 5801 and 5811).

Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is announcing the availability of up to $15 million in Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) funding. The purpose of CIG is to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies in conjunction with agricultural production. CIG projects are expected to lead to the transfer of conservation technologies, management systems, and innovative approaches (such as market-based systems) to agricultural producers, into NRCS technical manuals and guides, or to the private sector. CIG generally funds pilot projects, field demonstrations, and on-farm conservation research. On-farm conservation research is defined as an investigation conducted to answer a specific applied conservation question using a statistically valid design while employing farm-scale equipment on farms, ranches, or private forest lands.

Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Vermont is looking for eligible applicants to provide assistance with: the organization and function of the Hungerford Brook and St Albans Bay Watersheds Planning Groups (two groups) with the end goal of assisting NRCS and the groups with the identification, development and implementation of multiple strategies to increase the implementation of conservation practices on farms within the watershed. Applicants will be responsible for providing overall administration (hiring, supervision and payroll) of staff to provide assistance with the development and implementation of a Watershed Action Plan. Staff hired to provide the identified services will typically be located in the office of the applicant.

This is a notice of intent to award a single source grant agreement to SEEDS Youth Conservation Corps without competition under justification 505DM 2.14.B.4. Competition for the award is not practical as SEEDS has been established for the purpose of employment and development of young people and the conservation and enhancement of natural and cultural resources. SEEDS has a robust Youth Conservation Corps program that is nationally recognized. They use a collaborative approach to connect vulnerable youth with the protection and enhancement of our environmental and cultural heritage. In the last five years, SEEDS has employed almost 300 underserved youth who live in northwest lower Michigan.

This is a twelve-month position, working with the NPS Appalachian Highlands Inventory and Monitoring Network (APHN) as a member of a team that conducts field-oriented natural resources monitoring. Principal duties are assisting with field data collection, data management and related laboratory testing for the Networkâ¿¿s water quality monitoring program. Other duties may include assisting with freshwater mussel and vegetation monitoring.

For the purpose of conducing project and programs that strengthen and revitalize communities; provide self-esteem, educational enhancements, and employment opportunities through meaningful work experiences for youth and adults; and conserve, develop and enhance natural resources.

The National Science Foundation's (NSF's) Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) in the Directorate for Education and Human Resources (EHR) acknowledges the need to expand and chronicle educational change efforts across the nation.  To this end, DUE invites proposals to study the impact of the Vision and Change (V&C) movement in Undergraduate Biology Education. Specifically, this program seeks to support projects that evaluate a combination of factors such as the awareness, acceptance, adoption, and adaptation of V&C principles and outcomes including changes in curriculum, laboratories, and student retention, completion, and learning. Collectively, results of these projects are anticipated to describe the nature and extent of V&C's use within the undergraduate biology curriculum. The projects could also describe key factors and approaches taken by the V&C community that have the potential to be useful for improving undergraduate education in other scientific disciplines or in interdisciplinary STEM education. 

The Department of the Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Office of Subsistence Management (OSM) administers the Partners for Fisheries Monitoring Program (Partners Program). OSM is seeking proposals for the Partners Program that strengthen Alaska Native and rural involvement in Federal subsistence management. The Partners Program is a competitive grant that is directed at providing funding for biologists, social scientists and outreach/educator positions in Alaska Native and rural nonprofit organizations with the intent of increasing the organizations ability to participate in Federal subsistence management. In addition, the program supports a variety of opportunities for local, rural students to connect with subsistence resource monitoring and management through science camps and paid internships.

This funding opportunity will provide support for the grantee to develop and administer a comprehensive national program that funds extramural collaborative science projects to address the system-wide research and management needs of the National Estuarine Research Reserve System, while being responsive to local and regional reserve priorities and those of NOAA. The NERRS collaborative science program is intended to deliver highly credible and relevant information to the coastal management community by incorporating user input into the design and implementation of research projects and ensure that the outcomes support the needs of stakeholders. This program will also increase the capacity of the NERRS management, research, education, stewardship, and coastal training sectors to transfer information and skills to end-users and more effectively support coastal and estuarine resource management.

The BLM Oregon/Washington (OR/WA) Wildlife Program helps ensure self-sustaining populations and a natural abundance and diversity of wildlife on public lands for the enjoyment and use of present and future generations. The Program is responsible for maintaining, restoring, and conserving species and their habitats in cooperation with the Federal and State wildlife agencies, and other partner organizations. BLM-administered public lands are home to thousands of mammal, reptile, avian, amphibian, and invertebrate species over some of our nation¿s most ecologically diverse and essential habitat. The BLM will work with partners and maintain close collaboration with States, Tribes, other Federal agencies, and other organizations in conserving and restoring wildlife habitats to support wildlife and wildlife uses under a shared conservation stewardship approach. The BLM uses the latest geospatial data technologies to share wildlife and wildlife data within BLM and with partners to work more efficiently.

The Cooperative Watershed Management Program (CWMP) contributes to the WaterSMART strategy by providing funding to watershed groups to encourage diverse stakeholders to form local solutions to address their water management needs. Funding is provided on a competitive basis for: Watershed Group Development and Watershed Restoration Planning: In 2012, Reclamation began providing funding for watershed group development, watershed restoration planning, and watershed management project design (Phase I). A watershed group is a self-sustaining, non-regulatory, consensus-based group that is composed of a diverse array of stakeholders, which may include, but is not limited to, private property owners, non-profit organizations, Federal, state, or local agencies, and tribes. As part of Phase I activities, applicants may use funding to develop bylaws, a mission statement, complete stakeholder outreach, develop a watershed restoration plan, and watershed management project design. For Phase I projects, Reclamation will award a successful applicant up to $50,000 per year for a period of up to two years with no non-Federal cost-share required.

The Notice of Funding Opportunity (NFO), in the form of an Annual Program Statement (APS), is used when USAID intends to support a variety of creative approaches towards developing methodologies to assess and implement development objective activities. Under this APS, the Mission will issue Addendums where specific objectives, expected results, funding ceilings, and other requirements shall be detailed. These Addendums will be separately posted on Grants.gov. Prior to submitting an application, applicants are encouraged to thoroughly read this APS and the specific Addendum/s of their interest, in order to understand the types of interventions sought, the application process, the submission requirements and the evaluation process.
