Education for deaf and blind Children in Mali - 0 views

    The purpose of this APS is to solicit innovative concept papers from international and local organizations that can propose the best approach for blind and deaf inclusive education in Mali. This will be done through a two steps application process consisting of: (a) the submission of an initial concept paper and then, (b) the submission of a full application, as detailed in Section II. This APS will be open for a period of one year, with up to three (03) rounds, depending on funds availability. Under this APS, USAID intends to award multiple grants and cooperative agreements ranging from $20,000 to $300,000 for a maximum period of performance of two years each. At time of releasing this APS, the total amount available for funding the grants/cooperative agreements is $882,000 over a period of two years, of which $400,000 is available to cover the year 1. There will be a pre-application meeting with all interested local organizations on the date specified above to review the application requirements. All interested organizations are required to send an email at least seven working days before the meeting with the name of the organization and names of the attendees and their contact information. The solicitation will be amended to provide answers to all questions raised (in writing and at the meeting) for the general consideration of all interested parties.

Foster/Adoptive Parent Preparation, Training and Development Initiative - 0 views

    The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to award one cooperative agreement to develop a state-of-the-art foster/adoptive parent training program to include intensive preparation and development components that reflect the capacities required of successful foster/adoptive parents. This is intended to be a product that could be utilized by all states, tribes, and territories and consistently applied wherever implemented. Development of this program would include research on the common characteristics of individuals and their foster/adoptive families that have succeeded in terms of well-being and stability. Common characteristics of families that are more likely to foster and/or adopt harder to place children/youth and are successful and remain committed to the relationship will be identified and integrated into the program. The program would be inclusive of development, training, and capacity needs of individuals/families that are interested in becoming foster parents, as well as those who are interested in fostering with the intention to eventually adopt; therefore many concepts would be in common for foster and adoptive parents. There would be particular focus for foster parents on working on reunification efforts with birth parents and for adoption there would be particular focus on the common adoption issues pertinent to all types of adoption, i.e., child welfare, private domestic, and international. The initial year would entail an extensive review of all current training and preparation programs and include new intervention strategies that foster/adoptive parents should be skilled in as they develop as foster and adoptive parents. The initial year would also involve the basic development of the new intensive training modules.

    Today, more than six million children around the world die needlessly before reaching the age of five. Some of the leading causes of child death include preterm birth complications, pneumonia, intrapartum-related complications, diarrhea, and sepsis/ meningitis. Applicants from all walks of life, and from all over the world, are invited to submit a proposal outlining how they plan to save the lives of children under the age of five who would otherwise die from a treatable and preventable cause. All proposals must include a science-based approach to measuring and evaluating the impact of the lives saved. One winner will be awarded $250,000 to directly execute the proposed project.

    To that end, CATCH is accepting applications for its CATCH Planning and Implementation Grants program and CATCH Resident Grants program. 1) Planning and Implementation Grants: Grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to individual pediatricians and fellowship trainees for the planning of innovative community-based child health initiatives that ensure all children in the community have access to healthcare services not otherwise available. Priority will be given to projects that serve communities with the greatest health disparities. Outreach must be to the community at large, not to practice or clinic patients only, and all initiatives should incorporate screening for or connecting children to medical homes and available insurance programs. All pediatricians are eligible to apply regardless of employment setting or retirement status. 2) Resident Grants: Grants of up to $2,000 will be awarded to pediatric residents for the planning and/or implementation of community-based child health initiatives. Projects must include planning activities or demonstrate completed planning activities, and may include implementation activities.

    The Research on Education and Learning (REAL) program represents the substantive foci of three previous EHR programs: Research and Evaluation on Education in Science and Engineering (REESE), Research in Disabilities Education (RDE), and Research on Gender in Science and Engineering (GSE). Awards received beginning in September and all proposal submissions going forward will be required to use the new rates.

    The National Academy of Education works to advance high-quality education research and its use in policy formation and practice. Founded in 1965, the academy comprises members in the United States and foreign associates who are elected on the basis of outstanding scholarship related to education. Since its establishment, NAEd has undertaken research studies that address pressing issues in education conducted by its members and other scholars with relevant expertise. As part of that mission, the NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship Program supports early-career scholars working in critical areas of education research. The non-residential postdoctoral fellowship funds proposals with the potential to make significant scholarly contributions to the field of education. The program also aims to develop the careers of its recipients through professional development activities involving National Academy of Education members. Fellows receive $70,000 for one academic year of research, or $35,000 for each of two contiguous years working half-time, and are included in professional development retreats with other fellows and NAEd members. The program is open to all eligible applicants regardless of race, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation. Applicants must have received their PhD, EdD, or equivalent research degree between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2016. In addition, all applicants should have a demonstrated record of research experience in education.

An NSI is a group of secondary schools working in partnership with an Intermediary organization to use a continuous improvement process to significantly increase the number of Black, Latino, and low-income students who earn a high school diploma, enroll in a postsecondary institution, and are on track in their first year to earn a credential with labor-market value. Secondary school teams work collaboratively to identify, test, and refine solutions that target a problem and reach an aim common across the network. An NSI's aim is to improve outcomes that are predictive of high school graduation and postsecondary success.

    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program supports the success of all children who are deaf or hard of hearing (D/HH) in the United States by helping to ensure they receive a newborn screening, early diagnosis, and timely intervention services. Without timely screening, diagnosis and intervention, children who are D/HH lose valuable time in gaining the skills that will put them on a trajectory to have language on par with their hearing peers in kindergarten and be ready to succeed in school. Additionally, among children who are D/HH, delays in language development are more difficult to remediate with late diagnosis and intervention. While collaborative efforts by CDC, states, and other partners have helped lead to the early identification of thousands of children who are D/HH each year, their developmental and language outcomes are often unknown, and these data are not routinely collected by CDC or state EHDI programs. Furthermore, it is currently unclear what actions beyond early identification should be taken by public health to help reduce adverse consequences of hearing loss and ensure that children who are D/HH are ready for success in early childhood. The current lack of public health capacity to document and assess the intervention services and associated outcomes of early-identified children who are D/HH at the state and national level makes it challenging to: Assess the developmental progress to ensure all children who are D/HH are achieving age-appropriate milestones and are ready for success in early childhood; Identify strategies, in addition to those beyond early identification, to help assess and reduce adverse consequences of hearing loss; Assess and document the success and impact of EHDI activities across the United States.

Foundation for Child Development Issues RFP for 2020 Young Scholars Program | RFPs | PND - 0 views

    To that end, FCD currently is accepting proposals for its 2020 Young Scholars Program (YSP). The YSP program funds implementation research that is policy and practice-relevant and examines the preparation, competency, compensation, well-being, and ongoing professional learning of the early care and education (ECE) workforce. Research awards are up to $225,000 for primary research and up to $180,000 for secondary data analysis. All proposed research must attempt to answer primary questions that are relevant to the ECE workforce and support scientific inquiry into the implementation of specific early care and education programs, policies, or practices. Implementation research provides the opportunity to engage in meaningful exploration of what works (or not), for whom, and under what conditions. In addition, all supported research must have a clear connection to policies and practices that have the potential to result in a positive impact on the ECE workforce and on young children in YSP's priority populations.
