NEA Funded Research | National Eczema Association - 0 views

  •
In 2015, NEA adopted a comprehensive strategic plan, the Roadmap to Advocacy, after extensive discussions with industry, patients, parents, and provider stakeholders. This plan places significant emphasis on understanding the overall burden of atopic dermatitis (AD), including the impact AD has on patients, families, the healthcare system, places of school and work, and society as a whole. NEA aims to become a steward of burden of disease research by serving as a clearinghouse for patient-centered data that can be readily shared with individuals and organizations interested in improving the lives of patients with eczema. NEA will ultimately utilize research on the burden of AD to further our mission to improve the health and quality of life for individuals with AD.

Gene Delivery Technology Using Non-Viral Vectors - 0 views

  •
Adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors, currently considered highly effective, have numerous advantages, such as high expression efficiency, a wide variety of organ-/tissue-specificity, long-lasting expression, and low pathogenicity. However, AAV also has disadvantages: the limitation in size of transgene it can carry; the difficulty in producing it; and that many human adults possess neutralizing antibodies. Therefore, the client has issued this open request to seek a gene delivery technology using non-viral vectors which have greater effect than AAV vectors, or which can overcome the disadvantages of AAV vectors. A technology using a device is also welcome.

Chemical/Biological Technologies FY2018 Program Build DTRA BAA - Federal Business Oppor... - 0 views

  •
The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Chemical and Biological Technologies (CBT) were established by the Department of Defense (DoD) to provide state-of-the-art defense capabilities to allow military forces of the United States to operate and to successfully complete their missions in chemical and biological warfare environments. The scope of mission efforts and the priorities assigned to specific projects are influenced by changes in military and civilian Chemical and Biological Defense (CBD) science and technology, advanced developments, operational requirements, military threat assessments, and national defense strategies. To keep pace with defense capability requirements, the CBD as part of its mission, routinely promulgates chemical and biological research. The comprehensive research program encompasses both intramural and extramural sources, and the role of each is vital to the fulfillment of the Program objectives.

Electrochemical Systems - 0 views

  •
he Electrochemical Systems program is part of the Chemical Process Systems cluster, which includes also 1) Catalysis; 2) Molecular Separations; and 3) Process Systems, Reaction Engineering, and Molecular Thermodynamics. The goal of the Electrochemical Systems program is to support fundamental engineering research that will enable innovative processes involving electro- or photochemistry for the sustainable production of electricity, fuels, and chemicals. Processes for sustainable energy and chemical production must be scalable, environmentally benign, reduce greenhouse gas production, and utilize renewable resources. Research projects that stress fundamental understanding of phenomena that directly impact key barriers to improved system or component-level performance (e.g., energy efficiency, product yield, process intensification) are encouraged. Processes for energy storage should address fundamental research barriers for the applications of renewable electricity storage or for transport propulsion

PA-18-816: Better Defining Growth Medium to Improve Reproducibility of Cell Culture (ST... - 0 views

  •
Fetal bovine serum (FBS) is the most widely used growth supplement for cell culture because it cost-effectively supports the survival and growth of many cell lines. Although serum is an effective growth promotor, it is highly variable in its composition, activity, and physiological effects on cells. This variability introduces inconsistencies into cell culture research. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will support STTR projects to develop novel, reliable, and cost-effective tools that will make it easier for researchers to standardize or replace serum in cell culture.

Formulation and Estimation of the Tradeoff between Fuels and Preparedness Budgets using... - 0 views

  •
The objectives of this research are to use simulated data from three or more national parks to econometrically estimate a production function where fuels and preparedness budgets are used to improve the value of the landscape. The landscape value is improved through fuel treatments aimed at hazardous fuel reductions and ecosystem improvement. It is also improved by preparedness through loss mitigation of fire affected values and by introducing fire in areas that promote ecosystem health. This research will, for the first time, quantify how the two programs (fuels and preparedness) interact to mutually improve the value of the landscape and associated natural and human resources. The second objective is to locate current programs on the econometrically derived value-added surface and to also identify how to manage increasing or declining budgets.

Countering North Korea (DPRK) Missile and Nuclear Program - 0 views

  •
CTR will prioritize proposals that efficiently meet NOFO and programmatic goals at the lowest technically acceptable cost. ISN/CTR sponsors foreign assistance activities funded by the Nonproliferation, Anti-terrorism, Demining and Related Programs (NADR) account, and focuses on mitigating proliferation risk from state and non-state actors in North-East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. The United States government seeks to use all available tools to exert pressure on the DPRK to curtail its proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and related delivery systems and induce the DPRK to denuclearize. Specifically, the DPRK uses external procurement and trade networks to acquire nuclear and missile materials and technology and to finance its WMD program. While several United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCRs) obligate states to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons, and their means of delivery, and establish appropriate domestic controls over related materials, some countries lack the capacity and resources to fully comply with the UNSCRs. ISN/CTR will contribute to United States government efforts to pressure the DPRK by building capacity in partner countries to counter-DPRK proliferation activities and enforce the relevant UNSCRs.

Science of Learning | NSF - National Science Foundation - 0 views

  •
The Science of Learning program supports potentially transformative basic research to advance the science of learning. The goals of the SL Program are to develop basic theoretical insights and fundamental knowledge about learning principles, processes and constraints. Projects that are integrative and/or interdisciplinary may be especially valuable in moving basic understanding of learning forward but research with a single discipline or methodology is also appropriate if it addresses basic scientific questions in learning. The possibility of developing connections between proposed research and specific scientific, technological, educational, and workforce challenges will be considered as valuable broader impacts, but are not necessarily central to the intellectual merit of proposed research. The program will support research addressing learning in a wide range of domains at one or more levels of analysis including: molecular/cellular mechanisms; brain systems; cognitive affective, and behavioral processes; and social/cultural influences. The program supports a variety of methods including: experiments, field studies, surveys, secondary-data analyses, and modeling.
