The AACR Basic Cancer Research Fellowships are open to postdoctoral and clinical research fellows working at an academic, medical, or research institution who will be in the first, second, or third year of their postdoctoral training at the start of the grant term. The research proposed for funding may be in any area of basic cancer research. The fellowships provide one-year grants of $50,000-45,000 to support the salary and benefits of the Fellow while working on a mentored basic cancer research project. A partial amount of funds may be designated for nonpersonnel expenses, such as research/laboratory supplies, equipment, publication charges for manuscripts that pertain directly to the funded project, and other research expenses.

Award: $500 certificate for ONS educational resources/publications donated to the recipient's employer institution. (No cash prize to the individual recipient), a plaque, and travel reimbursement to attend the Opening Ceremonies at ONS Congress. Purpose: To recognize a Registered Nurse (RN) (or equivalent) who has contributed to the improvement of cancer care in a country outside the United States.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) is committed to creating opportunities for new and innovative research into treatments and cures for childhood cancers. Innovation grants are designed as seed funding for researchers with a novel approach to pediatric oncology scientific investigation. This may represent a change in research direction and/or an innovative new idea that moves away from an investigator's prior research but has potential impact for childhood cancers. Innovation Grants will support research proposals to be carried out by investigators who are already established, have a track record of peer-reviewed publications and evidence of successfully competing for extramural funding. The grant is for two years up to $125,000 per year. A one year no cost extension is encouraged.

The Career Development Award supports early-career, independent investigators to conduct impactful research under the mentorship of an experienced lung cancer researcher as an opportunity to obtain the funding, mentoring, and experience necessary for productive, independent careers at the forefront of lung cancer research. This award is intended to support impactful research projects with an emphasis on discovery. Submissions from and partnerships with investigators at military treatment facilities, military labs, and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers and research laboratories are strongly encouraged. Key elements of this award are as follows: * Principal Investigator (PI): PIs must be research- or physician-scientists at an early stage of their independent research careers. PIs must be within 5 years of their first faculty appointment (or equivalent), and exhibit a strong desire to pursue a career in lung cancer research. * Mentorship: The mentor must be an experienced lung cancer researcher as demonstrated by a strong record of funding and publications in lung cancer research. In addition, the mentor must demonstrate a commitment to developing the PI's career in lung cancer research. * Career Development: A Career Development Plan is required and should be prepared with appropriate guidance from the mentor. A clearly articulated strategy for acquiring the necessary skills, competence, and expertise to have a career at the forefront of lung cancer research should be included. The plan should outline how the PI will gain experience and training in lung cancer research. Because career development is the focus of this award, the PI's institution must demonstrate a commitment to the PI through a minimum of 40% protected time for the proposed research, though more protected time is highly desirable. * Impact: Research that has high potential impact may lead to major advancements and significantly accelerate progress toward eradicating death

The Landon Foundation-AACR INNOVATOR Award for Research in Tumor Microenvironment was established to recognize the outstanding achievement of a junior faculty-level scientist working in the tumor microenvironment field, and support his or her research that, if successful, will have potential to advance knowledge on the tumor microenvironment. The goal of the grant program is to encourage junior faculty who are in the first five years of a faculty appointment (at the start of the grant term) to pursue novel tumor microenvironment research. Travel support is included to help foster interactions and collaborations among cancer scientists studying various aspects of cancer biology and to disseminate scientific knowledge about tumor microenvironment research within the field. Proposed projects may be basic, translational, clinical, or epidemiological in nature and must focus on the study of various aspects of the tumor microenvironment; including, but not limited to, the role of stroma and extracellular matrix in tumor development, angiogenesis, immunity and inflammation in the tumor microenvironment, as well as approaches to therapeutically target the tumor environment. The grant provides $100,000 over two years ($50,000 per year) for expenses related to the research project, which may include salary and benefits of the grant recipient, postdoctoral or clinical research fellows, graduate students, and/or research assistants, research/laboratory supplies, equipment, publication charges for manuscripts that pertain directly to the funded project, other research expenses, and for attendance at an AACR annual meeting, any AACR tumor microenvironment-related conference, or other AACR meeting for the purpose of participating in scholarly exchange about the funded research.

The American Association for Cancer Research is accepting applications for its AACR NextGen Grants for Transformative Cancer Research program. The annual program is designed to stimulate highly innovative research from young investigators. To that end, three-year grants of up to $450,000 will be awarded to promote and support creative, paradigm-shifting cancer research unlikely to be funded through conventional channels. The funds are intended to support expenses related to the research project, which may include salary and benefits of the grant recipient, postdoctoral or clinical research fellows, graduate students (including tuition costs), and research assistants, research/laboratory supplies, equipment, travel applicable to the research project, publication charges for manuscripts that pertain directly to the funded project, other research expenses, and indirect costs.

To advance this mission, the foundation is accepting applications for its LRF Clinical Investigator Career Development Award program, which is designed to support physician-investigators at the level of advanced fellow or junior faculty member who will contribute to the development of new lymphoma therapies and diagnostic tools. The goal of the program is to prepare physician-investigators to design and administer clinical research studies in lymphoma and assume primary responsibilities for clinical research, protocol writing, Institutional Review Board (IRB) submission, and publication.

Founded in 1996, the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research supports public early detection screening for ovarian cancer, produces nationally and internationally attended research symposia, and provides funding for innovative ovarian cancer research and scholar grants to up-and-coming investigators. The center is accepting applications for pilot study projects in ovarian cancer research. Through the center's Pilot Study Program, approximately ten one-year grants of $75,000 will be awarded to support investigator-initiated projects in all areas of ovarian cancer research. Projects designed to analyze data from already funded clinical trials also will be considered. Priority will be given to proposals that are innovative, multi-disciplinary, and likely to lead to the submission of grant applications for independently funded investigations. Investigators at all levels are encouraged to apply.

The American Association for Cancer Research is accepting applications for its AACR NextGen Grants for Transformative Cancer Research program. The annual program is designed to stimulate highly innovative research from young investigators. Three-year grants of up to $450,000 will be awarded in support of creative, paradigm-shifting cancer research that might not be funded through conventional channels. The funds are intended to support expenses related to the research project, which may include salary and benefits of the grant recipient, postdoctoral or clinical research fellows, graduate students (including tuition costs), and research assistants; research/laboratory supplies and equipment; travel applicable to the research project; publication charges for manuscripts that pertain directly to the funded project; and other research expenses and indirect costs. Research projects must represent a highly innovative approach to a major contemporary challenge in cancer research. The research, which can be in any area of basic, translational or clinical science, must have the potential to lead to groundbreaking discoveries in the field and transform our understanding of the tumorigenesis process and/or ability to treat, detect, or prevent cancer. To be eligible, applicants must have a doctoral degree in a related field and not currently be a candidate for a further doctoral degree. In addition, at the start of the grant term on July 1, 2018, applicants must hold a tenure-eligible appointment at the level of assistant professor; have held this appointment for no more than three years; and work at an academic, medical, or research institution anywhere in the world. AACR membership is required.

The FY17 KCRP Concept Award supports highly innovative, untested, potentially groundbreaking novel concepts in kidney cancer. The Concept Award is not intended to support an incremental progression of an already established research project but, instead, allows Principal Investigators (PIs) the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations. Preliminary data are not allowed. This award mechanism supports high-risk studies that have the potential to reveal entirely new avenues for investigation relevant to active duty Service members, Veterans, other military beneficiaries, and the American public. Applications must describe how the new idea will enhance the existing knowledge of kidney cancer or develop an innovative and novel course of investigation. Research completed through a Concept Award may generate sufficient preliminary data to enable the PI to prepare an application for future research. The anticipated direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance for an FY17 KCRP Concept Award will not exceed $75,000. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a nonprofit foundation that has evolved from a young cancer patient's front yard lemonade stand to a national foundation for childhood cancer, awards grants designed to fill critical voids in current pediatric cancer research. Through its Innovation Grants program, the foundation awards two-year grants of up to $250,000 in support of researchers with a novel approach to pediatric oncology investigation. This can include a change in research direction and/or an innovative new idea that moves away from an investigator's prior research but has potential impact for childhood cancers. Innovation Grants will support research proposals to be carried out by investigators who are already established, have a track record of peer-reviewed publications, and can demonstrate evidence of successfully competing for extramural funding. To be eligible, applicants must possess a degree at the MD, MD/PhD or PhD level and hold a faculty appointment at an academic institution.

Founded in 1996, the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research provides funding for multiple efforts, including funding for innovative research pilot studies, scholar grants to up-and-coming investigators to encourage their careers in ovarian cancer research, public early detection screening for ovarian cancer, and nationally and internationally attended research symposia focused on ovarian cancer. To advance this mission, the center has issued a Call for Applications for its 2018 Scientific Scholar Awards. Through the program, the center will award grants of up $120,000 over two years to promising laboratory and clinical scientists interested in pursuing a career as an independent investigator in ovarian cancer research. Funds are for direct costs only; institutional overhead and indirect costs are not covered by the award. Eligible applicants must have an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree with career goals focused on ovarian cancer, and clinicians must have completed their residency. All applicants should be at the postdoc/fellow, instructor, research assistant, or assistant professor level, with no more than three to four years in any of these positions. Established outstanding scientists without prior focus in ovarian cancer but looking to focus in this area are also encouraged to apply.

Established in 2005, the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network is a national community dedicated to increasing public understanding of bladder cancer. To that end, the network provides patients, caregivers, and the medical community with the educational resources and support services they need to navigate their bladder cancer journey and works collaboratively with the medical community to provide funding for research on effective treatments. The organization currently is accepting applications for its Young Investigator Awards program. Through the program, one-year grants of $50,000 will be awarded to two scientists working in any field that lends itself to bladder cancer research, including basic, translational, clinical, epidemiologic, or bioengineering.

Founded in 1999 by a group of forty-one survivors and family members impacted by colorectal cancer, the Colorectal Cancer Alliance is a network of eight hundred thousand patients, family members, caregivers, and survivors dedicated to the prevention of colorectal cancer. In support of that mission, the alliance is accepting applications to its Chris4Life Research Program. Through the program, the alliance will award a single grant of $150,000 over two years to an innovative project with substantial potential to advance the prevention of colorectal cancer. The focus of eligible projects may include but are not limited to high-risk populations, specific risk factors, effective screening and early diagnosis, and biomarkers. Funds may support research-related expenses, including supplies, the purchase of software and equipment, and publication directly related to the project. Research scientists working at any academic or nonprofit institution are eligible to apply; however, all research must be conducted in the United States. Founded in 2009 by two sisters from Brooklyn, the Tell Every Amazing Lady (T.E.A.L.) About Ovarian Cancer Louisa M. McGregor Ovarian Cancer Foundation works to drive medical research, provide survivor support, and promote public awareness and education of the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of ovarian cancer. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for its 2019 Medical Research Program. Through the program, grants of up to $40,000 will be awarded to investigators working to advance research on ovarian cancer. To be eligible, applicants must be affiliated with a nonprofit institution in the United States.

Tobacco use remains the leading preventable cause of disease and death in the United States. More than half of smokers attempt to quit each year, but fewer than one in ten succeed. Evidence-based cessation treatments, including individual, group, and telephone counseling and seven FDA-approved cessation medications, exist, but are underutilized. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Office on Smoking and Health is announcing the opportunity to apply for funds for a competitive, non-research cooperative agreement to provide technical assistance to state tobacco control programs and other partners to translate the science of tobacco control cessation into public health action in order to further increase the rate of cessation among tobacco users in the United States. The funded organizations will accomplish this by providing technical assistance to state tobacco control programs and other partners to 1) Implement health systems change initiatives that seek to integrate tobacco dependence treatment into routine clinical care, including care of persons with behavioral health conditions; and 2) Improve state quitlines' infrastructure, operations, and services to further enhance their effectiveness and efficiency, increase state quitlines' reach, especially among populations experiencing tobacco-related disparities, broaden the range of cessation services offered by state quitlines, and enhance quitline sustainability.

The OCRP Pilot Award supports the exploration of innovative concepts or theories in ovarian cancer that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will drive the field forward. The proposed research must demonstrate a clear focus on ovarian cancer (e.g., using tissues, cell lines, datasets, or appropriate animal models). The proposed research should include a testable hypothesis based on strong scientific rationale and serve as a catalyst to expand or modify current thinking about and/or approaches in ovarian cancer. The proposed research must be relevant to active duty Service members, Veterans, military beneficiaries, and/or the American public. Inclusion of preliminary data is not required, but allowed. The strength of the application should be based on sound scientific rationale and logical reasoning. The outcome of research supported by this award should be the generation of robust preliminary data that can be used as a foundation for future research projects. Clinical trials will not be supported by this award mechanism.

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking a Data Coordinating Center (DCC) for biospecimen and consent related activities for the Sudden Death in the Young (SDY) Case Registry. SDY is a tragic event with longstanding impact on families and communities. Although the causes of SDY are myriad, sudden unexpected infant death (SUID), sudden cardiac death and sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) are three examples that have inspired public health efforts at prevention. Yet fundamental gaps in knowledge about incidence, mechanisms, and risk factors for SDY limit the identification of effective prevention efforts. This acquisition is for one contract for a SDY Data Coordinating Center with subcontracts and/or other mechanisms as needed to accomplish all necessary work described in the Statement of Work.

The NIH Research Evaluation and Commercialization Hub (REACH) program is envisioned as a partnership program between NIH and the qualifying research institutions to accelerate the creation of small businesses and the transition of discoveries originating from academic research into products that improve health. REACH Hubs will foster the advancement of therapeutics, preventatives, diagnostics, devices, and tools in a manner consistent with business case development, that address the needs of patients and public health.

Since its founding in 1979, the Skin Cancer Foundation has set the standard for educating the public and the medical community about skin cancer. The foundation is committed to reducing the incidence and mortality of the world's most common cancer, which is now occurring at epidemic levels. As part of this mission, the foundation is accepting proposals for its 2019 Research Grants Awards program. Two grants of $50,000 and one grant of $25,000 will be awarded to support one-year pilot research projects related to the disease. Researchers are invited to submit applications for projects to be conducted within the dermatology departments of medical institutions in the United States and Canada. The program is open to dermatology residents, fellows, and junior investigators.
