This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) supports small research projects on cancer that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources. The R03 grant mechanism supports different types of projects including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology.

The research that we fund is vital to our mission of understanding the role of diet, nutrition, body composition and physical activity in reducing cancer risk and improving outcomes for cancer patients and survivors. Our Research Grant Program builds on and is informed by the scientific findings from our Continuous Update Project and Third Expert Report.

The THRIVE grant program is designed to provide seed funding for clinical and translational research and technology-based solutions that enhance our ability to predict when and how adverse effects may occur in patients who have received cancer treatment. Awards are made to investigators for the testing of initial hypotheses and collecting of preliminary data to help secure long-term funding by the National Institutes of Health and/or other major granting institutions.

The American Cancer Society and Pfizer Global Medical Grants are collaborating to offer a new competitive grant opportunity focused on addressing systemic race-related barriers that contribute to disparities in outcomes among Black men and women with cancer.

The Stephen I. Katz Early Stage Investigator Research Project Grant supports an innovative project that represents a change in research direction for an early stage investigator (ESI) and for which no preliminary data exist. Applications submitted to this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) must not include preliminary data. Applications must include a separate attachment describing the change in research direction.

The Fight Colorectal Cancer-AACR Fellowship, in memory of Lisa Dubow represents a joint effort to encourage and support a postdoctoral or clinical research fellow to conduct translational or clinical research that focuses on novel THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES for late-stage metastatic colorectal cancer. This grant will support a project designed to lead to individualized therapeutic options for treatment or the development of promising new cancer therapeutics for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Emphasis will be placed on proposed projects which will translate into clinical applications within a few year period, including those with predictive biomarker studies.

The purpose of this FOA is to seek, identify and support bold and innovative approaches to broaden graduate and postdoctoral training, such that training programs reflect the range of career options that trainees (regardless of funding source) ultimately may pursue and that are required for a robust biomedical, behavioral, social and clinical research enterprise. Collaborations with non-academic partners are encouraged to ensure that experts from a broad spectrum of research and research-related careers contribute to coursework, rotations, internships or other forms of exposure. This program will establish a new paradigm for graduate and postdoctoral training; awardee institutions will work together to define needs and share best practices.

Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy, Inc. (ACGT) funds research aimed at furthering the development of cell and gene therapy approaches to the treatment of cancer. To this end, ACGT offers awards in Clinical Translation of Cell and Gene Therapy for Cancer, to qualified scientists at the assistant professor level and above. This award is specifically for those conducting Cell and Gene Therapy Research for Cancer and is entitled, 2013 Investigator's Award in Clinical Translation of Cell and Gene Therapy for Cancer.

he Idea Development Award promotes new ideas that are still in the early stages of development and have the potential to yield impactful data and new avenues of investigation. This award supports conceptually innovative, high-risk/high-reward research that could lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will accelerate progress toward eradicating deaths from lung cancer. Applications should include a well-formulated, testable hypothesis based on strong scientific rationale.

The PRCRP Idea Award with Special Focus mechanism is intended to support innovative, untested, high-risk/potentially high-reward concepts, theories, paradigms, and/or methods in cancer research that are directly relevant to service members, their families, and other military beneficiaries. The proposed research project should include a well-formulated, testable hypothesis based on strong scientific rationale and study design. The Idea Award with Special Focus is not intended to support a logical progression of an already established research project. The proposed research project should be novel and innovative. Innovative research may introduce a new paradigm, challenge existing paradigms, look at existing problems from new perspectives, or exhibit other uniquely creative qualities. Research that is an incremental advance upon published data is not considered innovative and will not be considered for funding under this award mechanism. Inclusion of preliminary data is discouraged. The outcome of research supported by this award should be the generation of robust preliminary data that can be used as a foundation for future research projects to understand the mechanisms of initiation, or progression of cancer. This award is not intended to support ongoing research in the applicant's laboratory; therefore, inclusion of preliminary data other than serendipitous findings or in very small numbers is not consistent with the exploratory nature of this award.

This FOA emphasizes the importance of coordination and collaboration across agencies, partners, and organizations to improve standardized electronic reporting of laboratory data to central cancer registries for use in cancer surveillance. Specifically, this opportunity will; *facilitate development of standards for electronic reporting to central cancer registries from clinical and anatomic laboratories, *identify and document the barriers and solutions to accurately capture data contained in biomarker/molecular tests *Promote expansion of electronic reporting from laboratories to central cancer registries.

The Postdoctoral Fellowship Award supports exceptionally talented recent doctoral or medical graduates in pursuit of innovative, high-impact breast cancer research during their postdoctoral training and allows them to obtain the necessary experience for an independent career at the forefront of breast cancer research. Those individuals should be exceptionally talented scientists who have demonstrated that they are the "best and brightest" of their peers. Applicants for this award must exhibit a strong desire to pursue a career in breast cancer research. Under this award mechanism, the postdoctoral fellow is considered the Principal Investigator (PI) and, as such, should write the project narrative, training plan, and other application components with appropriate guidance from the mentor. While the PI is not required to have previous experience in breast cancer research, the proposed project and training must focus on breast cancer.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage applications for projects that bridge biological mechanism to population level scales. By incorporating insights and data from one end of the cancer research spectrum into the framework of the other, projects should be able to cross-validate data gathered at different scales, and explore links between basic biology, population science, and potential health applications in treatment, prevention, diagnosis, and/or screening. Proposed projects should pose a challenging cancer research question that can be addressed by connecting these two ends of the research spectrum that would be difficult to address or explain through biological or epidemiological investigation alone. Only a single cohesive project integrating aspects from these two areas is allowed in each application.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage new research into integrative cancer biology by fostering collaborations between investigators currently supported through the Integrative Cancer Biology Program (ICBP) and those currently unaffiliated with the ICBP. These collaborative projects should leverage the existing expertise and resources from within the ICBP research community and combine those with new approaches, technologies or methods to address compelling cancer questions. Therefore, the proposed research projects must involve partnerships between investigators currently supported by ICBP and investigators currently unaffiliated with the program. Applications that focus on projects which neither involve integrative cancer biology research, nor expand individual ICBP investigators' research by adding additional expertise, resources, or approaches, or without affiliation to existing ICBP personnel, are not appropriate to this FOA.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), issued by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), is to encourage research projects which focus on the interactions of carcinogenic pathogens with the human microbiome and the host for the detection of pathogen-induced cancer (DPIC). This FOA encourages research to assess molecular signatures associated with risk and early detection of pathogen-induced cancer and chronic inflammation associated with progression to invasive cancer.

his Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites research project (R01) applications that combine imaging and biomarkers. The overall objective of this FOA is to facilitate collaborative imaging and biomarker research to improve cancer screening, early cancer detection and diagnosis by integrating multi modality imaging strategies and multiplexed biomarker methodologies.

The HERA Women's Cancer Foundation provides funds for a project focused on the cause, early detection, treatment, and/or understanding of ovarian cancer. This annual award provides $50,000 for a cross-disciplinary project that is collaborative in nature.  The application must identify two (or more) scientists with different yet complementary skills and explain how these skills will be synergistic in addressing the ovarian cancer problem.  Applications are now being accepted for the 2013 award.

The OCRP Teal Innovator Award supports a visionary individual from any field principally outside of, but not exclusive of, ovarian cancer to focus his/her creativity, innovation, and leadership on ovarian cancer research. The Teal Innovator Award will provide the Principal Investigator (PI) with the funding and freedom to pursue his/her most novel, visionary, high-risk ideas that could significantly impact the field of ovarian cancer research or patient care. The proposed Teal Innovator must be highly recognized in his/her field and present evidence of this recognition. Examples include, but are not limited to, recognition at the level of endowed chair; membership in the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, or Institute of Medicine; Chairmanship of the American Association for Cancer Research; or other national or international recognition.
