The American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation awards grants related to patient breast care and medical education. The foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to improving the standard of care for breast disease patients by providing support for medical and patient education, advancing breast disease research and diagnosis and treatment technologies, and offering programs and services to medical professionals and their patients.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH.The over-arching goal of this NCI R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Courses for Skills Development. Applications are encouraged that propose innovative, state-of-the-art programs that address the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients, in accordance with the overall mission of the NCI.

Scientists and patient advocacy groups often use a series of photos, commissioned by NEI some thirty years ago, when they wish to depict the visual experience of patients suffering from blinding diseases. At the time they were created, these images reflected the field's understanding of visual perception for such patients. But the field has advanced considerably since then, and these static images are considered overly simplistic, inaccurate, and generally unsatisfactory. At the same time, technology has evolved to where it is possible to use video and virtual reality to more authentically demonstrate (or even simulate) the experience of have a blinding disease. As part of the efforts of the NEI 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, the institute seeks the support of experts in blinding diseases, visual psychophysics, and video/virtual reality production to create a scientifically accurate and clinically authentic blindness simulation "experience" that can be used for education, public advocacy, and research purposes and a series of short videos that can be posted online for education and public outreach.

Purpose: This award is named in memory of Dr. Mary Nowotny, an active ONS member and past chair of the ONS Education Committee.  She was a cancer-education advocate throughout her career and a widely published author, writing many articles on the measurement and significance of hope in patients with cancer.  The Mary Nowotny Excellence in Cancer Nursing Education award recognizes and supports excellence in cancer nursing education.

The PFD Research Foundation together with the June Allyson Foundation has awarded over $1.5 million in grants to AUGS members since 1998. The Foundation serves the medical profession by supporting promising, innovative research regarding the causes, prevention, cure and treatment of pelvic floor disorders. Foundation research funds are made available to qualified AUGS members to pursue their research question. Goals of this research grant program are to support the completion of research projects which will lead to publication and presentation at future AUGS Annual Scientific Meetings and to support the development of researchers in the field who will go on to obtain additional funding for future research on pelvic floor disorders. Applicants can submit proposals for the following research awards: PFD Research Foundation Fellow Research Award: A two-year grant awarded to a fellow for clinical/patient-oriented, educational, or lab-based/basic science research. PFD Research Foundation Faculty Research Award: A two-year grant awarded to a junior faculty or affiliate member for clinical/patient-oriented, educational, or lab-based/basic science research. June Allyson Memorial Fund Research Award: A two-year grant awarded to a fellow for lab-based/basic science research. PFD Research Foundation and ICA IC/PBS Research Grant: A one-year grant awarded to a fellow, junior faculty or affiliate member of AUGS and ICA for research related to interstitial cystitis.

A cancer survivor is a person diagnosed with cancer, from the time of diagnosis throughout the person’s lifespan. As of 2008, nearly 12 million cancer survivors were living in the United States; this number is expected to increase to 18 million in 2020. Cancer survivors have long-term adverse physical and psychosocial effects from their diagnosis and treatment, and have a greater risk for additional cancer diagnoses compared with persons without a cancer history. Cancer survivors commonly report negative behavioral, medical, and health care access issues that may contribute to poor long-term medical and psychosocial outcomes. An analysis of over 45,000 U.S. cancer survivors showed that: 1) 15% of cancer survivors continue to use tobacco; 2) 20-25% do not receive recommended cancer screenings; 3) 31% do not engage in any leisure time physical activity; 4) 40 to 50% do not receive flu or pneumonia vaccines; 5) 60% do not have a summary of their cancer treatment; and 6) 25% do not have any instructions (written or oral) for their treatment or follow-up care . CDC’s National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (NCCCP) supports collaborative cancer control and prevention efforts in all states, the District of Columbia, tribal organizations, territories, and Pacific Island jurisdictions to address the cancer burden in their jurisdictions. In 2010, NCCCP developed six priorities areas of focus for the greatest public health impact; one of the six priorities is to address the public health needs of cancer survivors. The purpose of this FOA is to implement a broad set of evidence-based survivorship strategies in a subset of NCCCP grantees that will have the short-term results of increasing knowledge of cancer survivor needs, increasing survivor knowledge of treatment and follow-up care, and increasing provider knowledge of guidelines pertaining to treatment of cancer. The proposed program's purpose is to increase the availability of supportive services for young breast cancer survivors (YBCS), young women with metastatic breast cancer (mBC), and their caregivers and families by supporting organizations and entities that serve this population. The awardees will address strategies relevant to the target audience. These include: the establishment of a network of survivors and caregivers to facilitate policy, system, and environmental change interventions that increases access to lifestyle programs, clinical preventive services, and cancer care among survivors; development and implementation of innovative technological educational opportunities for health care providers on topics relevant to the delivery of appropriate treatment and care of YBCS and mBC; and utilization of patient navigation and community health worker program strategies to reach underserved populations to enhance their access to and utilization of YBCS services and programs. To this end, activities funded by this NOFO, are intended to support organizations in closing the disparity gap needed to support young breast cancer survivors. Specifically, organizations will implement strategies that aim to reduce disparities observed in survival and quality of life due to race, ethnicity, or other social determinants of health. This NOFO will also support organizations in providing support services/programs to YBCS and mBC; and provide resources for health care providers in caring for all YBCS and mBC regardless of race, ethnicity, age, or sexual orientation during the period of performance of 09/30/2019-09/22/2024.

Established in 2005, the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network is a national community dedicated to increasing public understanding of bladder cancer. To that end, the network provides patients, caregivers, and the medical community with the educational resources and support services they need to navigate their bladder cancer journey and works collaboratively with the medical community to provide funding for research on effective treatments. The organization currently is accepting applications for its Young Investigator Awards program. Through the program, one-year grants of $50,000 will be awarded to two scientists working in any field that lends itself to bladder cancer research, including basic, translational, clinical, epidemiologic, or bioengineering.

The mission of the American Society for Hematology, the world's largest professional organization dedicated to the causes and treatment of blood disorders, is to further the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders affecting the blood, bone marrow, and immunologic, hemostatic and vascular systems through the promotion of research, clinical care, education, training, and advocacy in hematology. To that end, ASH is accepting proposals from hematologists whose research would not otherwise be accomplished due to cuts in NIH funding. Established in January 2013, the long-term goal of the program is to help sustain recipients' research and contribute to their retention in hematology investigation. The Bridge Grants program will provide at least thirty one-year awards annually, in the amount of $150,000 each, to ASH members who applied for an NIH R01 grant or equivalent but were denied funding due to budget cuts. Grants will support projects in basic, translational, patient-oriented, or outcomes-based research.

This RFP seeks innovative ideas for high-risk, high-reward projects and/or seed funding necessary to demonstrate proof of concept before applying for larger grants. Projects could address any aspect of radiation oncology that falls within the scope of the priority research topic areas identified in the National Radiation Oncology Research Needs Assessment. Proposals should address the highest impact research questions for the field of radiation oncology. Knowledge derived from these studies should inform policy development or aim to improve outcomes in cancer treatment. The ROI seeks proposals that would lead to important research with practical applications for radiation oncology professionals and their patients. Special consideration will be given to proposals that are not otherwise fundable through traditional sources.
