The primary purpose of the ASRM and SREI Research Grant Programs is to provide funds for new investigators to establish independent research programs. New investigators are those who have completed their training within the past three years and have independent faculty appointments at the commencement of the research. In special cases, ASRM will consider applications for bridge funding (i.e., between grant funding periods) for projects that are of benefit to other members of the Society, or for funding of new, highly innovative research projects by established investigators. Both the ASRM Research Grants, which are funded by the ASRM, and the SREI Research Grants, which are funded by SREI, are reviewed by the ASRM Research Committee. Grants in amounts of $10,000 to $50,000 will be considered for funding by the ASRM Board of Directors on an annual basis. A total of $200,000 is available for 2016. The SREI Board of Directors will fund one grant of up to $40,000. Funds are available for project expenses, technical assistance, patient expenses, research supplies and durable laboratory equipment. Up to ten percent (10%) of funds may be used for indirect costs or institutional overhead in circumstances deemed to be extraordinary by the Research Committee. Research grant funds may be expended over a 2-year time interval. If residual funds remain after 2 years, the principal investigator can apply for a no-cost extension. An individual should indicate which grant(s) he/she is applying for though he/she is eligible to receive only one grant.

1) Philip R. Dodge Young Investigator Award: An award for basic science or clinical research by promising young investigators who are members of the Child Neurology Society. Applications will be judged on the basis of originality, scientific merit, succinctness, and relevance. The recipient of the Dodge award will receive a grant-in-aid of $20,000 and will be invited to present their work at the 46th Annual Meeting of the Child Neurology Society in Kansas City, MO on October 6, 2017. 2) Child Neurology Shields Research Grant: The grant supports translational or clinical research by a child neurologist or developmental pediatrician early in his/her academic career. The selected investigator will receive a $100,000 grant of $50,000 per year for two years. 3) Pediatric Epilepsy Research Foundation (PERF) Scientific Research Grant: The grant supports clinical or basic science research by a child neurologist or developmental pediatrician early in his/her academic career. The selected investigator will receive a $100,000 grant of $50,000 per year for two years.

The Glaucoma Foundation offers grants to researchers striving to improve the lives of glaucoma patients through novel innovations and scientific advances. The area of current focus for TGF's Grant Research program is exfoliation syndrome and exfoliation glaucoma.  The next deadline for grant applications is January 1, 2016. Initial grant funding for a one-year period is for up to $40,000; a grantee is permitted to apply for a grant renewal of up to $50,000. A renewal grant is a one year grant based upon research findings from the initial research.

The Science of Science & Innovation Policy (SciSIP) program supports research designed to advance the scientific basis of science and innovation policy. Research funded by the program thus develops, improves and expands models, analytical tools, data and metrics that can be applied in the science policy decision making process. For example, research proposals may develop behavioral and analytical conceptualizations, frameworks or models that have applications across a broad array of SciSIP challenges, including the relationship between broader participation and innovation or creativity. Proposals may also develop methodologies to analyze science and technology data, and to convey the information to a variety of audiences. Researchers are also encouraged to create or improve science and engineering data, metrics and indicators reflecting current discovery, particularly proposals that demonstrate the viability of collecting and analyzing data on knowledge generation and innovation in organizations. Among the many research topics supported are:examinations of the ways in which the contexts, structures and processes of science and engineering research are affected by policy decision, the evaluation of the tangible and intangible returns from investments in science and from investments in research and development, the study of structures and processes that facilitate the development of usable knowledge, theories of creative processes and their transformation into social and economic outcomes, the collection, analysis and visualization of new data describing the scientific and engineering enterprise. The SciSIP program invites the participation of researchers from all of the social, behavioral and economic sciences as well as those working in domain-specific applications such as chemistry, biology, physics, or nanotechnology. The Whitehall Foundation assists scholarly research in the life sciences through its research grants and grants-in-aid programs. It is the foundation's policy to support dynamic areas of basic biological research that are not heavily supported by federal agencies or other foundations with a specialized mission. VentureWell, with the support from the Whitaker International Program, is implementing a new grants program, BME-IDEA International: Developing Global Connections for US-based BME Design Faculty and Students. The BME-IDEA International grants program will support collaborative project opportunities for US-based BME design students and faculty across the BME-IDEA global network and will connect faculty members of the consortium to share resources, best practices, ideas, curriculum, knowledge, challenges, and opportunities around innovation in BME design. The two goals of the BME-IDEA International grants program are to: 1) Build strong partnerships between US-based and global BME design and innovation programs, including exchanges of faculty, students, resources, and best practices. 2) Foster the development of US-trained leaders in BME design and innovation who understand the challenges of teaching and practice in this field around the world, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) in Africa and Latin America. Faculty grants: grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded to US-based faculty for global project explorations and/or experiences to enhance their professional development and knowledge base within the field of biomedical design and innovation.  Student grants: grants of up to $9,000 will be awarded to student teams for the development and implementation of BME projects focused on innovation, design, and entrepreneurship.

Through its Innovation grants program, the foundation awards two-year grants of up to $250,000 to researchers with a novel approach to pediatric oncology scientific investigation. One of the most critical aspects of myocarditis research is encouraging promising physician-scientists to devote their talents to this important work. To do so, the Myocarditis Foundation Research Grant supports the training and career development of those who are dedicated to the study of myocarditis. Research Grants are intended to offer seed funding to support the early stages of long-term research, from the investigation of an initial hypothesis to the collection of preliminary data. Grant recipients will receive a $40,000 stipend payable over the course of one year. This amount does not include additional funding for benefits, travel and/or other costs associated with research. At the end of the grant period, recipients should be well-prepared to seek long-term funding from the National Institute of Health (NIH) or other major granting institution.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages Research Education Grant (R25) applications from institutions that propose to enhance the pool of masters degree students from underrepresented backgrounds who are trained and available to participate in NIH-funded research. This initiative promotes partnerships/consortia between colleges or universities granting a terminal masters degree with institutions that offer the doctorate degree. The program expects that the joint efforts of doctorate degree-granting and masters degree-granting institutions will foster the development of a well-integrated institutional program that will provide students with the necessary academic preparation and skills to enable their transition and successful completion of the Ph.D. degree in biomedical and behavioral sciences.

The Annual Midwestern Conference of Parasitologists (AMCOP) is a regional affiliate of the American Society of Parasitologists. Our annual conference provides for a gathering of parasitologists and students of parasitology to provide informal discussion of research and teaching in parasitology and the advancement of the best interests of parasitology. This conference is open to all interested persons, regardless of place of work, residence, or affiliation in other recognized societies. The AMCOP Student Grants Program was initiated at AMCOP 63 in 2011. At that meeting the membership decided to establish a mini-grant program, run it for 3 years and then evaluate it for its effectiveness. A committee was established to lay out the ground rules of the program and the committee's members stayed on to evaluate the first two rounds of proposals. While AMCOP is a regional meeting, the student Grants are open to those outside the geographic region typically covered by the society. Applicants for the funds may be students or faculty. The project, program, or entrepreneurial idea must be created by, led by or benefit women. Grants are awarded in values of $2500 to $20,000. While we prefer the base grant to be $5,000, we are considering a limited number of $2500 which will be required to show high impact. These applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The Grants must be submitted online via the link below and must include a 2-minute video. Applicants will be narrowed to a pool of 10-15 finalists by our M.I.A.M.I. WOMEN Grants Committee. This committee will review applications; contact applicants if additional information is required, and present the finalists to the M.I.A.M.I. WOMEN Steering Committee and Development Staff. Grant deadline for this year is Feb. 9, 2018. These finalists will perform in a fast-pitch style Hawk Tank event on April 11, 2018. Finalists will be offered fast-pitch training courtesy of the Farmers School of Business - school of Entrepreneurship, and will receive coaching and support. They will then pitch their idea in 5 minutes or less on April 11, 2018 at the event. Giving Circle members are the voters who will determine winners. Absentee voters will be given the option to vote online. Winners will be announced that night or the next day at the Symposium, to be determined.

The Barth Syndrome Foundation, Inc. (BSF) and its international affiliates are pleased to announce the availability of funding for basic science and clinical research on the natural history, biochemical basis, and treatment of Barth syndrome. Starting in 2013, there will be two types of grant awards: IDEA grants for 1-2 years and DEVELOPMENT grants for 2-3 years with budgetary maximums of US $50,000 or $100,000, respectively over the full period. BSF's Research Grant Program allows young, non-tenured investigators to include in their submitted budget up to 75% of the direct costs amount as PI salary (10% for established investigators). In addition, for those clinical applications where volunteers must travel to a clinical research site, these travel expenses will be handled separately and will not be included in the application budget limitation. We encourage all investigators at every professional level to submit their best ideas for advancing the state of knowledge about Barth syndrome so that progress can be made in finding a specific treatment or a cure for this unusual mitochondrial disease. There are no geographical limitations to this funding.

The Collaborative Research Travel Grant (CRTG) program provides up to $15,000 in support for researchers from degree-granting institutions to travel either domestically or internationally to a laboratory to acquire a new research technique or to facilitate a collaboration. To capitalize on what appears to be an opportunity to provide relatively unrestricted travel funds to academic scientists and trainees and to provide a stimulus for those working or contemplating working at the interface of science, this program provides travel grants that can be used both internationally and domestically to acquire new research techniques, and to promote collaborations. 

Mentored Research Training Grants help anesthesiologists develop the skills, preliminary data for subsequent grant applications and research publications needed to become independent investigators. The MRTG is a two-year, $175,000 award that provides funding to faculty members who have completed their core anesthesiology residency training within the past 10 years. Year one is funded up to $75,000, and year two is funded up to $100,000. The MRTG requires 75 percent protected non-clinical time for research. The proposed project must be in basic science, clinical or translational, or health services research. Mentored Research Training Grant - Basic Science Studies pertaining to any of the fundamental questions broadly related to anesthesiology. Typically laboratory experiments with cells or animals.
