The Robert M. Scarborough Award for Excellence in Medicinal Chemistry is intended recognize individuals who have had primary, leading roles in the discovery of novel therapeutic agents or who have otherwise made significant scientific discoveries that enhance the field of medicinal chemistry. Candidate selection criteria include scientists under the age of 50 at the time of nomination. Nominees can be employed in industry, academia, government or a private research foundation.

Botswana has both a high prevalence of HIV (25% among persons 15-49 years of age) and a high incidence of TB (455 new cases per 100,000 population per year). Drug resistance is a concern with both diseases. High quality surveillance and monitoring data are needed for effective disease control efforts. This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) has two primary objectives. Both are meant to support ongoing efforts of the Botswana Ministry of Health (MOH). The first objective is to strengthen the capacity of the TB laboratory and surveillance systems focusing on drug resistance and system integration. The second objective is to a) complete the national rollout of PIMS II (Patient Information Management System) to health care facilities and development of the national data warehouse and b) to support development and implementation of an HIV surveillance strategy at national- and district-levels.

The goal of the NSF Section for Arctic Sciences, Division of Polar Programs (PLR), is to gain a better understanding of the Arctic's physical, biological, geological, chemical, social and cultural processes; the interactions of oceanic, terrestrial, atmospheric, biological, social, cultural, and economic systems; and the connections that define the Arctic. The Arctic Sciences and other NSF programs support projects that contribute to the development of the next generation of researchers and scientific literacy for all ages through education, outreach, and broadening participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Program representatives from polar and other non-polar NSF programs that support arctic research coordinate across NSF, including joint review and funding of arctic proposals and mutual support of special projects with high logistical costs.

The BMMB Program supports fundamental research in biomechanics and mechanobiology. An emphasis is placed on multiscale mechanics approaches in the study of organisms that integrate across molecular, cell, tissue, and organ domains. The influence of in vivo mechanical forces on cell and matrix biology in the histomorphogenesis, maintenance, regeneration, and aging of tissues is an important concern. In addition, the relationships between mechanical behavior and extracellular matrix composition and organization are of interest. Funded projects may include theoretical, computational, and experimental approaches. The program encourages the consideration of diverse living tissues as smart materials that are self-designing.

Thanks to Genentech's support, the ARVO Foundation will offer one grant to a researcher working in basic research in the understanding of AMD and another grant to a researcher working in translational AMD research focusing on therapeutics.

The mission of the Gerber Foundation is to enhance the quality of life of infants and young children via nutrition, care, and development. The foundation is accepting concept papers for health and/or nutrition-related research projects designed to make a significant impact on issues affecting infants and young children from birth to three years of age.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support research to develop and pilot test strategies to assist transition-age youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families or caretakers in planning for and smoothly transitioning into adult functioning and adult services.The ultimate goal is to develop models for transition to adult supports and services that effectively prevent lapses in services and supports; enhance functioning in community settings such as educational, social, familial, and other settings; maintain or improve health, safety, and quality of life; and reduce or maintain reductions in ASD-related symptoms.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages innovative research to enhance the quality of measurements of dietary intake and physical activity. The purpose of the RERC program is to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act by conducting advanced engineering research on and development of innovative technologies that are designed to solve particular rehabilitation problems or to remove environmental barriers. RERCs also demonstrate and evaluate such technologies, facilitate service delivery system changes, stimulate the production and distribution of new technologies and equipment in the private sector, and provide training opportunities. RERC on Low Vision and Blindness: NIDILRR seeks to fund an RERC on low vision and blindness to research, develop, and evaluate innovative technologies that will improve the ability of individuals with low vision and blindness to function independently within their schools, communities, and workplaces. This RERC must research and develop technologies that will promote independence for individuals with low vision and blindness of all ages, including those who are deaf-blind and those with multiple disabilities.

The unique high quality and long duration microgravity environment on the ISS National Lab provides an extraordinary research platform for experiments in the biological and medical sciences. Microgravity induces a vast array of changes in individual cells and model organisms ranging from viruses and microorganisms to humans, including global alterations in gene expression and 3-dimensional aggregation of cells into biofilms or tissue-like architectures that recapitulate the structure and function of organs. Moreover, studies of astronauts reveal a variety of space flight-induced health conditions, many of which may serve as accelerated models of ground-based ailments such as aging and trauma. Research into these and other effects of the space environment may advance our fundamental understanding of cell and tissue function, effective disease diagnosis and /or treatment, or improved health care delivery.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage research to develop and validate new screening methods for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) that can be used in infancy (0-12 months of age). This FOA uses the R01 grant mechanism, while RFA-MH-19-121 uses the R21 grant mechanism. Pilot or exploratory projects with minimal preliminary data, or those proposing early-stage feasibility testing, may be most appropriate for the R21 mechanism. Applicants with strong preliminary data proposing validation, refinement or final stages of testing of existing tools or methods may wish to use this FOA (R01 mechanism).

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for P30 Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers. NIA-designated Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers (ADRCs) serve as major sources of discovery into the nature of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementias and into the development of more effective approaches to prevention, diagnosis, care, and therapy. They contribute significantly to the development of shared resources that support dementia-relevant research, and they collaborate and coordinate their research efforts with other NIH-funded programs and investigators.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications specific to sample acquisition, genome wide association studies, whole genome sequencing, quality control checking, variant calling, and data calling that will support the generation of data for the Alzheimer's Disease Sequencing Project Follow-Up Study.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the leading viral cause of lower respiratory tract infection including bronchiolitis and pneumonia in infants and children worldwide. The annual rate of RSV hospitalizations for children less than 2 years of age in the US is 5.2 per 1,000, but substantially higher among Native Americans. There are currently approximately 40 vaccines or antibody products in development designed to prevent RSV infections. With potential licensure of these products on the horizon, it will be important to establish baseline estimates of the burden of RSV infections in high-risk populations, like Native Americans, and to maintain surveillance post-licensure in order to evaluate impact. Native Americans are also at higher risk for severe respiratory infections associated with human metapneumovirus (HMPV) and other viruses, which will also be monitored through this system.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement invites applications for a U24 Telomere Research Network/Collaboratory. This U24 will coordinate activities of a telomere length (TL) methods comparison study involving multiple labs supported under U01 awards made in response to FOA (RFA-AG-19-023) to address the need for cross-validation between protocols and samples for establishing best practices for population-based TL research. The U24 will serve as the central resource for the organization of meetings and other activities of this coordinated program, including support for the methods study, dissemination of its results and resultant recommendations. It will also develop and foster an extended Telomere Research Network (TRN) connecting the broader field through a flexible range of activities that will advance an interdisciplinary research agenda on telomeres and activities directly associated with TL maintenance as sentinels of environmental exposures, psychosocial stress, and disease susceptibility.

This funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages Multiple Principal Investigator (Multi-PD/PI) applications from United States (U.S.) and Indian institution as bilateral collaborations that will advance science and technology important to understanding, preventing, and treating blinding eye diseases, visual disorders, and their complications. Areas of Research Collaboration: Applications are encouraged from organization/institutions that propose to conduct research on the basic biology and/or genetics of ophthalmic diseases through collaborations with Indian investigators on the following: diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, including rare and genetic diseases such as congenital cataracts, as well as other eye conditions such as ocular inflammation/uveitis, refractive error, low vision, and corneal injury. Basic, translational, or epidemiological research maybe proposed. Clinical trials will not be supported under this FOA.

NIDA and the following NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs), NIAAA, NICHD, NIMH, NIMHD, NINDS, OBSSR, and NCI intend to publish a limited competition Collaborative Research on Addiction at NIH (CRAN) funding opportunity announcement to solicit applications for a Coordinating Center in service of a nationwide, multisite, multi-modal, longitudinal cohort study to prospectively examine brain and behavioral development from late childhood (approximately age 9-10) through adolescence into early adulthood. Current primary awardees will be eligible to apply and this new award period will be extended to 7 years in duration.

The purpose of this NOFO is to:Support government of SA in ensuring provision of high-quality, high-volume, cost-efficient VMMC services to males aged 15-34 through implementation of innovative demand creation strategies;Ensure that VMMC services are integrated and implemented as a package of comprehensive HIV prevention;To coordinate the forecasting, procurement, QA, distribution and storage of VMMC surgical kits and commodities; andSupport the transition of direct VMMC service delivery to the NDoH facilities according to guidance provided by PEPFAR in SA.

The objective of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support the development of new and innovative on-demand, event -driven and long-acting systemic and non-systemic multipurpose prevention technologies (MPT). It supports development of MPTs that prevent HIV infection and pregnancy (hormonal and non-hormonal methods); sexually transmitted infections (STI) and pregnancy, and (HIV/STI) and non-HIV STI MPTs in cis and trans males and females of all ages. Applications for MPT development may involve pharmacokinetic (PK), pharmacodynamic (PD), safety and, drug-drug interactions (DDI) studies using drug development and formulation science supported by animal model testing. Also supported are biobehavioral and behavioral/social studies to identify MPT user-desired rheological and biophysical factors (look, feel, effectiveness, safety and duration of action) and other behavioral/social factors that could promote increased MPT adoption and use.
