In today's increasingly networked, distributed, and asynchronous world, cybersecurity involves hardware, software, networks, data, people, and integration with the physical world. Society's overwhelming reliance on this complex cyberspace, however, has exposed its fragility and vulnerabilities that defy existing cyber-defense measures; corporations, agencies, national infrastructure and individuals continue to suffer cyber-attacks. Achieving a truly secure cyberspace requires addressing both challenging scientific and engineering problems involving many components of a system, and vulnerabilities that stem from human behaviors and choices. Examining the fundamentals of security and privacy as a multidisciplinary subject can lead to fundamentally new ways to design, build and operate cyber systems, protect existing infrastructure, and motivate and educate individuals about cybersecurity.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide support for New Investigators from backgrounds nationally underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research to conduct small research projects in the scientific mission areas of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). The R21 is intended to support small research projects that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources and seeks to facilitate the transition to research independence of New Investigators from backgrounds underrepresented in the biomedical and behavioral sciences. The R21 grant mechanism supports different types of projects including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology.

This Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for the Foundational Science Research Unit (FSRU) of the U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences (ARI) solicits new proposals for its fiscal year 2019 program of basic research in behavioral science. It is issued under the provisions of paragraph 6.102(d) (2) and 35.016 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), which provides for the acquisition of basic and applied research and that part of development not related to the development of a specific system or hardware procurement through the competitive selection of proposals and 10 U.S.C. 2358 and 10 U.S.C. 2371. Proposals submitted in response to this BAA and selected for award are considered to be the result of full and open competition and in full compliance with the provisions of Public Law 98- 369, Section 2701, "The Competition in Contracting Act of 1984" and subsequent amendments.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to encourage behavioral intervention development research to test efficacy, conduct clinical trials, examine mechanisms of behavior change, determine dose-response, treatment optimization, and/or ascertain best sequencing of behavioral, combined, sequential, or integrated behavioral and pharmacological (1) drug abuse treatment interventions, including interventions for patients with comorbidities; (2) drug abuse treatment and adherence interventions; (3) drug abuse treatment and adherence interventions that utilize technologies to boost effects and increase implementability and sustainability; (4) interventions to prevent the acquisition or transmission of HIV infection among individuals in drug abuse treatment; (5) interventions to promote adherence to drug abuse treatment, HIV and addiction medications; and (6) interventions to treat substance misuse and chronic pain. Research of interest includes but is not limited to Stage II and Stage III efficacy research.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this NIAAA/NIDA R25 program is to support educational activities that foster a better understanding of biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research on alcohol and other substance use disorders and their implications. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Outreach. Specifically, this FOA will support projects designed to engage practicing health care professionals in education about current and emerging knowledge derived from scientific research on the neurobiology, epidemiology, prevention, and/or treatment of alcohol and other substance use disorders and related health conditions.

The purpose of this FOAs are to encourage mechanistic research to investigate the impact of sleep disturbances on chronic pain. The mechanisms and processes underlying the contribution of sleep disturbances to chronic pain development and maintenance may be very broad. This FOA encourages interdisciplinary collaborations by experts from multiple fieldsneuroscientists, psychologists,endocrinologists, immunologists, geneticists, pharmacologists, chemists, physicists, behavioral scientists, clinicians, caregivers, and others in relevant fields of inquiry.

The purpose of this FOA is to encourage mechanistic research to investigate the impact of sleep disturbances on pain. The mechanisms and processes underlying the contribution of sleep and sleep disturbances to pain perception and the development and maintenance of chronic pain may be very broad. This FOA encourages interdisciplinary research collaborations by experts from multiple fieldsneuroscientists, psychologists, endocrinologists, immunologists, geneticists, pharmacologists, chemists, physicists, behavioral scientists, clinicians, caregivers, and others in relevant fields of inquiry.

The American Psychological Foundation is accepting applications for its Visionary Grants program. Through the program, grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded to programs that use psychology to address social problems in one of four priority areas: violence prevention; understanding the connection between behavior and health (e.g., wellness, diabetes, obesity); understanding and eliminating stigma and prejudice (e.g., race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, and socioeconomic status); and applying psychology to vulnerable, at-risk populations (e.g., serious mental illness, returning military, those who are incarcerated, and the economically disadvantaged). Preference will be given to pilot projects that, if successful, would be strong candidates for support from major federal and foundation funding agencies as well as "demonstration projects" that promise to generalize findings broadly to similar settings. The Sociological Initiatives Foundation was established to support research that advances social change, including language learning and behavior and its intersection with social and policy questions. The foundation supports projects that address institutional rather than individual or behavioral change and seeks to fund research and initiatives that provide insight into sociological and linguistic issues that can be useful to specific groups and/or communities. To that end, grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded in support of research projects focused on social policy; institutional and educational practices; linguistic issues (e.g., literacy, language loss and maintenance, language policy, language and national security, bilingualism, language and gender, language and law, language disabilities, language and health, language and education, different language cultures); and community capacity and the organization of previously unorganized groups. Preference will be given to subjects that tend to be underfunded and projects of a size where an SFI grant can make a difference.

he NIH Research Education Cooperative Agreements Program (UE5) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH.  The overarching goal of this National Cancer Institute (NCI) UE5  program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical cancer research needs. This UE5 funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is a part of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) initiative to establish the "NCI Awardee Skills Development Consortium (NASDC)."  The major objective of this initiative is to provide opportunities for current NCI grantees, especially those who are junior faculty (e.g., assistant professors, instructors, research scientists, or equivalent), to enhance their skills in areas that are critical for establishing and maintaining successful independent academic cancer research careers. To accomplish the stated overarching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Courses for Skills Development.  Such courses should contain innovative, state-of-the-art, evidence-based scientific and/or educational content that is essential to meet the academic career development needs of NCI-funded, junior faculty investigators.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits applications for planning and initial development of a large scale multi-site research study to prospectively examine human brain, cognitive, behavioral, social, and emotional development beginning prenatally through childhood (e.g., age 9-10), and the long-term impacts of pre/postnatal drug (expected oversampling for opioid prenatal exposures) and adverse environmental exposures on brain and behavioral health and risk for substance use and mental disorders. In addition to planning and testing the feasibility of study designs, awardees will be expected to participate in 2-3 grantee meetings to share lessons learned and to begin to form collaborations needed to establish the network of sites that will conduct this study.  

To that end, the society is accepting applications for its Pilot Grant Program, which funds high-risk pilot projects aimed at testing novel ideas with the potential to advance the society's mission of stopping MS progression, restoring function, improving quality of life, and preventing the onset of MS. The program supports fundamental as well as applied studies, non-clinical or clinical in nature, including projects in patient management, care, and rehabilitation.

The Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study is collecting data on health and mental health, cognitive function, substance use, cultural and environmental factors, and brain structure and function from youth starting when they are 9-10 years-old repeatedly for 10 years and makes that data available to the scientific community through the NIMH Data Archive. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage applications proposing the analysis of this public use dataset to increase knowledge of adolescent health and development. The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement is to encourage collaborations between the life and physical sciences that: 1) apply a multidisciplinary bioengineering approach to the solution of a biomedical problem; and 2) integrate, optimize, validate, translate or otherwise accelerate the adoption of promising tools, methods and techniques for a specific research or clinical problem in basic, translational, or clinical science and practice. An application may propose design-directed, developmental, discovery-driven, or hypothesis-driven research and is appropriate for small teams applying an integrative approach to increase our understanding of and solve problems in biological, clinical or translational science.
