The mission of the Hearing Health Foundation is to prevent and cure hearing loss and tinnitus through groundbreaking research and promote hearing health. HHF envisions a world where people can enjoy life without hearing loss and tinnitus. To advance this mission, the foundation has issued a Call for Applications for its 2018 Emerging Research Grants program for projects designed to explore new avenues in specified topic areas of hearing and balance science. For the 2018 ERG cycle, grants of up to $30,000 will be awarded for research in seven priority areas, including general hearing health, central auditory processing disorders, hearing loss in children, hyperacusis, Ménière's disease, tinnitus, and Usher's syndrome.

The Naval Facilities Command, through the Living Marine Resources applied science program (LMR), is soliciting pre-proposals for efforts related to any one of the six (6) themes listed below.  1. Data and Tools for the Assessment and Mitigation of Effects from Construction Noise (LMR N-0001-13).  2. Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) Technology Demonstrations (LMR N-0006-13). 3. Behavioral Responses to Navy Sound Sources (LMR N-0011-13).  4. Hearing and Auditory System Information for Hearing-Based Risk Criteria (N-0012-13).  5. Demonstration and Evaluation of Platform-Independent Improvements to Automated Signal Processing of Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) Data (LMR N0020-13).  6. Capability Development for Hearing Data Collection (LMR N0029-13).

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invite applications that elucidate the mechanisms and/or behavioral outcomes of multisensory processing, the integration or processing of at least two distinct types of sensory input as defined by distinct receptor-type transduction, neural pathways and cognate perceptual quality. Specifically, multiple sensory inputs may include the major traditional modalities of hearing, vision, taste, smell, balance, and touch.

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Head Start (OHS) announces the availability of approximately $7,582,500 to be competitively awarded for the purpose of operating a National Center on Health, Behavioral Health, and Safety (NC HBHS). The NC HBHS will provide training and technical assistance (TTA) that reflects current evidence, is research-informed, and promotes best practices. The NC HBHS will strengthen professional development outcomes for staff and improve outcomes for children and families enrolled in Head Start and/or Early Head Start programs. The NC HBHS TTA efforts will lead to improved health, behavioral health, and safety of children and families. Because of the complex work the NC HBHS will conduct, the recipient will be expected to bring together knowledgeable subrecipients within the fields child nutrition and oral health; physical activity; health (including hearing and vision screening); behavioral health promotion and prevention, including the promotion of mental health, resilience and wellbeing; and the prevention of mental illness and substance use disorders; safety practices; child and adult trauma; child incidents and maltreatment; emergency preparedness, response and recovery; prenatal care; environmental health and safety; and staff wellness.

The objectives of this research are to 1. Define and quantify the health and safety issues facing public transit workers. These include, but are not limited to, behaviors that affect health and safety (sleep, exercise, diet, smoking, seat belt use, alcohol use), chronic diseases (diabetes, cardio-vascular disease, hearing loss), communicable diseases, labor environment, organizational issues (safety climate, organizational programs, policies and procedures, support at work), organization of work (shiftwork, job discretion, job demands), and access to health-promoting activities and healthcare; 2. Using existing information resources, estimate the costs associated with employee health issues; and characterize to the degree possible how these costs are distributed to individuals, transit agencies, and society; 3. Identify and describe scalable and sustainable strategies successfully implemented in transit agencies; and 4. Identify and evaluate potential methods for measuring cost-benefits and cost-effectiveness of these programs to individuals, transit agencies, and society.

Under the OVC FY 2017 Action Partnerships for National Membership, Professional Affiliation, and Community Service Organizations: Post-Conviction Services to Victims of Crime solicitation, applicants will be asked to address one or a combination of the following areas: Victim services throughout post-conviction involvement in criminal cases through appeal, parole, and psychiatric review hearings, etc.Unique issues in serving victims involved with cold cases (it is understood there may not be an actual conviction in these instances), capital cases, and/or wrongful conviction cases.Emerging issues such as retroactive legislation making necessary protocols for victim notification and other services and support.Provision of victim services through facilitated dialogue processes such as victim driven voluntary restorative justice programs and/or diversion programs or tribal peacemaking programs in lieu of conviction.Field-generated ideas or other issues related to post-conviction services not addressed above where applicants can effectively demonstrate a need or gap.

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) invites applications for Clinical Research Center Grants designed to advance the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and amelioration of human communication disorders.  For this announcement, Clinical Research is defined as research involving individuals with communication disorders or data/tissues from individuals with a communication disorder. Examples of such research include but are not limited to, studies of the prevention, pathogenesis, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, management or epidemiology of a disease or disorder of hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech, or language.
