Founded in 2009, the Autism Science Foundation's mission is to support autism research by providing funding and other assistance to scientists and organizations conducting, facilitating, publicizing, and/or disseminating autism research. The foundation also provides information about autism to the general public and works to increase awareness of autism spectrum disorders and the needs of individuals and families affected by autism.

The purpose of this FOA is to stimulate research on interventions to reduce HIV/AIDS-associated stigma and its impact on the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS and on the quality of life of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH). Specifically, this initiative will support research on a) novel stigma reduction interventions that link to increase in care-seeking behavior and/or decrease in transmission; b) reducing the impact of stigma on adolescent and/or youth health; c) strategies to cope with the complex burden of stigmatization due to HIV and one or more comorbidities/coinfections; d) reducing effects of stigma on and/or by family members or caregivers of PLWH; and e) innovative and improved stigma measurement in the context of implementation of an intervention. The overall goals are to understand how to reduce stigma as a factor in HIV transmission, to eliminate or mitigate the aspects of stigma that limit beneficial health outcomes for the infected and at-risk individuals and communities, and to initiate exploratory studies to determine the feasibility of stigma interventions related to HIV prevention, treatment and/or care in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).

This FOA invites applications that address clinical and translational research gaps in the study of end-of-life care needs in order to improve quality of life at the end of life of people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) and their families. Research that either employs (a) secondary analysis of existing data from longitudinal cohort studies or from administrative records or (b) primary data collection for Stage I behavioral intervention development is particularly encouraged.

The purpose of the NIH Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) is to provide support and "protected time" (three to five years) for an intensive, supervised career development experience in the biomedical, behavioral, or clinical sciences leading to research independence. Although all of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) use this support mechanism to support career development experiences that lead to research independence, some ICs use the K01 award for individuals who propose to train in a new field or for individuals who have had a hiatus in their research career because of illness or pressing family circumstances. Other ICs offer separate K01 FOAs intended to increase research workforce diversity.

This initiative supports research to test the effectiveness of combined strategies to both detect and intervene to reduce the risk of suicide behavior, suicide ideation, and non-suicidal self-harm (NSSI) by youth in contact with the juvenile justice system. Opportunities for detection and prevention start at early points of contact (e.g., police interaction, the intake interview) and continue through many juvenile justice settings (e.g., pre-trial detention, juvenile or family court activities, court disposition, placement and on-going care in either residential or multiple community settings.) This FOA invites intervention strategies that are designed to be delivered in typical service settings using typically available personnel and resources, to enhance the implementation of interventions that prove effective, enhance their future uptake in diverse settings, and thereby reduce risk of suicide and self-harm in this population.

The vision of the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) is for the human-animal bond to be universally embraced as an essential element of human wellness. To that end, HABRI works to establish the vital role of companion animals in the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities. HABRI has issued a Request for Proposals for projects that investigate the health outcomes of pet ownership and/or animal-assisted activity or therapy, both for the people and the animals involved. The organization is interested in projects that involve a variety of companion animals (e.g., small animals, dogs, cats, fish, and horses). Proposals should have a strong theoretical framework and focus on innovative approaches to the study of the health effects of companion animals on humans within the following broad categories: child health and development; healthy aging; and mental health and wellness.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invite R01 applications to support biomedical and behavioral research that will provide scientific data to inform regulation of tobacco products to protect public health. Research Projects must address the research priorities related to the regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). The awards under this FOA will be administered by NIH using funds that have been made available through FDA CTP and the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (P.L. 111-31). Research results from this FOA are expected to generate findings and data that are directly relevant in informing the FDA's regulation of the manufacture, distribution, and marketing of tobacco products to protect public health. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support New Investigators in the biomedical, behavioral, and social sciences who are in the early stages of establishing independent careers in tobacco regulatory research. The R03 grant mechanism supports different types of projects including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology. Applicants are encouraged to conduct projects that ultimately have potential to inform regulations on tobacco product manufacturing, distribution, and marketing. Founded in 1972, the Tourette Association of America (formerly known as the Tourette Syndrome Association) has emerged as the premier national nonprofit organization working to make life better for all people affected by Tourette and tic disorders. The association advances its work by raising public awareness and fostering social acceptance; working to advance scientific understanding, treatment options, and care; educating professionals to better serve the needs of children, adults, and families challenged by Tourette and tic disorders; advocating for public policies and services that promote positive school, work, and social environments; providing help, hope, and a supportive community across the nation; and empowering its community to deal with the complexities of this spectrum of disorders. To that end, grants of up to $150,000 over two years will be awarded for basic and clinical studies on all aspects of Tourette syndrome. To be eligible, investigators are required to have an advanced degree such as a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent or be allied professionals with advanced degrees such as R.N.s, Drs. of O.T., social workers, and related fields. The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this NICHD R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Courses for Skills Development, which are encouraged to include hands-on research experiences. This FOA encourages applications to develop and conduct short-term research education programs to improve the knowledge and research skills of biomedical and behavioral scientists conducting research in areas relevant to the mission of NICHD, including reproductive, developmental, behavioral, social, and rehabilitative processes that determine the health and well-being of newborns, infants, children, adults, families, and populations.

Applications to the Fiscal Year 2017 (FY17) Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury Research Program (PH/TBIRP) in the area of Applied Behavior Analysis for Autism are being solicited for the Defense Health Agency (DHA) J9, Research and Development Directorate, by the U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA) using delegated authority provided by United States Code, Title 10, Section 2358 (10 USC 2358). As directed by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD[HA]), the DHA manages the Defense Health Program (DHP) Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) appropriation. The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) provides PH/TBIRP execution management support aligned with specific DHP research program areas. The execution management agent for this Program Announcement is the CDMRP, with strategic oversight from the DHA. The PH/TBIRP was established by Congress in FY07 in response to the devastating impact of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and psychological health (PH) issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder, on our deployed Service members in Iraq and Afghanistan. The PH/TBIRP mission is to establish, fund, and integrate both individual and multi-agency research efforts that will lead to improved prevention, detection, and treatment of PH issues and TBI. The vision of the PH/TBIRP is to prevent, mitigate, and treat the effects of traumatic stress and TBI on function, wellness, and overall quality of life for Service members as well as their caregivers and families. The DHA leverages PH/TBIRP funding to complement DHP core research and development funding assigned to study PH and TBI.

The NIA Behavioral and Social Research LEaders in Alzheimers Disease and Its Related Dementias (NIA BSR LEADR) program supports individual scientists of exceptional creativity who propose to use behavioral and social science perspectives and approaches for highly innovative, impactful, and potentially transformative theoretical, empirical, and clinical research addressing the challenges raised by Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD) for individuals, their families, and society. Applications are welcome from individuals with diverse backgrounds. NIA encourages applications on a variety of AD/ADRD topics in which behavioral and social research can contribute, such as dementia care, dementia caregiver research, cognitive and dementia epidemiology, behavioral and social pathways of AD/ADRD, early psychological changes preceding AD/ADRD, prevention of AD/ADRD, and disparities in AD/ADRD or dementia-related outcomes.

In addition to providing information about autism to the general public and supporting the needs of individuals with autism and their families, the Autism Science Foundation provides funding directly to scientists conducting cutting-edge autism research on the causes of autism and better treatments for the disorder. To that end, ASF is accepting applications for its Research Accelerator Grants. Through the program, grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded to enhance, expand, and enrich grants currently funded by other sources (including ASF). Grants awarded through the program are not meant to fully support a project but instead are designed to expand the scope, speed the progress, or improve final product dissemination of active autism research grants

The intent of the FY17 PRARP CSRA is to support efforts to generate research resources, tools, or novel research efforts for researchers and/or practitioners in health sciences related to the PRARP's mission. The FY17 PRARP CSRA is open to Principal Investigators (PIs) at or above the level of Assistant Professor (or equivalent) from any field or discipline. As part of the application, the PI should demonstrate that the study team has experience in both TBI and AD/ADRD research. Preliminary data, while not required, are encouraged. Preliminary data may come from the PI's published work, pilot data, or from peer-reviewed literature.The anticipated direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance for an FY17 PRARP CSRA will not exceed $500,000. The maximum period of performance is 3 years. The research impact is expected to benefit the military, Veteran, and civilian communities. To this end, the PRARP has identified CSRA Overarching Challenges and Focus Areas by which the intent of this mechanism can be facilitated. These should be carefully considered as part of the application process.FY17 PRARP CSRA Overarching Challenges: This FY17 PRARP CSRA funding opportunity requires applications to address one or more of the following FY17 PRARP CSRA Overarching Challenges:* Paucity of Research Resources: The paucity of research resources to examine the interrelationship between TBI and subsequent AD/ADRD for the military, Veteran, and civilian communities.

NCIPC is seeking research proposals focused on rigorously evaluating previously or currently implemented federal, state, local, tribal or organizational policies for impacts on multiple forms of violence, including child abuse and neglect, youth violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence and/or suicide. The proposed research should evaluate the impact of a selected policy on reducing rates of at least two of these violence outcomes. The proposed research must focus on a policy that has not yet been rigorously evaluated. Applicants are encouraged to assess the impact of the policy on as many violence outcomes that is feasible as well as risk and protective factors that are common to multiple forms of violence. The proposed research will add to the limited evidence base regarding the impact of policies on preventing multiple forms of violence by rigorously evaluating federal, state, local, or organizational policy approaches.

The American Psychological Association is accepting applications for its Elizabeth Munsterberg Koppitz Fellowship program, which is designed to nurture excellent young scholars for careers in areas of psychology, such as child-clinical, pediatric, school, educational and developmental psychopathology. Through the program, one-year grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded to support graduate research projects and scholarships in child psychology. To be eligible, applicants must have completed doctoral candidacy at the time of application (documentation required) and demonstrated research competence and area commitment. In addition, IRB approval must be received from their host institution before funding can be awarded if human participants are involved.

The Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood supports creative, innovative projects and programs designed to significantly enhance the development, health, safety, education, and/or quality of life for children from infancy through five years of age. The foundation provides funding in the areas of early childhood welfare, early childhood education and play, and parenting education.
