This FOA also allows the inclusion of behavioral and social science research projects to inform on contraceptive use and non-use of marketed products or products in clinical development. The Centers will serve as a national resource for development of early stage investigators electing to pursue careers in contraceptive research.

The primary purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to support and facilitate multidisciplinary approaches towards the development of new and/or improved contraceptive methods for both men and women through the formation of a Contraceptive Research Development Center. This FOA also allows the inclusion of translational studies to facilitate the pre-clinical to clinical transition and increase the likelihood of clinical success. Additionally, it allows for behavioral and social science research projects to study contraceptive use and non-use of marketed products or products in clinical development. The Center will serve as a national resource for development of early stage investigators electing to pursue careers in contraceptive research.

The project funded under this proposed announcement seeks applications from public and private nonprofit entities for one cooperative agreement for family planning research. The purpose of this family planning research cooperative agreement is to collect and analyze data on issues of interest to the family planning field. This cooperative agreement will fund a project to provide research in the biomedical, contraceptive development, behavioral and program implementation fields related to family planning and population. Analysis and research may include, but not limited to the following: the current services provided by family planning centers across the U. S.; trends on how service delivery and access to family planning and reproductive health services; levels of knowledge regarding family planning, reproductive health and related preventive services; and trends on contraceptive use.

This year, as part of our impact initiative, we will be asking applicants to consider impact from the onset. SFPRF defines impact as the demonstrable contribution that family planning research makes to society. This includes impact on clinical practice, public policy, health services, programs, or culture. Research projects should have the potential to exert influence through policies or practices that enhance family planning, including contraception and abortion. When addressing impact, consider who could potentially benefit from your work, as well as ways to increase the chances that those potential benefits will reach the target audience.
