    The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Head Start (OHS) announces the availability of approximately $7,582,500 to be competitively awarded for the purpose of operating a National Center on Health, Behavioral Health, and Safety (NC HBHS). The NC HBHS will provide training and technical assistance (TTA) that reflects current evidence, is research-informed, and promotes best practices. The NC HBHS will strengthen professional development outcomes for staff and improve outcomes for children and families enrolled in Head Start and/or Early Head Start programs. The NC HBHS TTA efforts will lead to improved health, behavioral health, and safety of children and families. Because of the complex work the NC HBHS will conduct, the recipient will be expected to bring together knowledgeable subrecipients within the fields child nutrition and oral health; physical activity; health (including hearing and vision screening); behavioral health promotion and prevention, including the promotion of mental health, resilience and wellbeing; and the prevention of mental illness and substance use disorders; safety practices; child and adult trauma; child incidents and maltreatment; emergency preparedness, response and recovery; prenatal care; environmental health and safety; and staff wellness.

    The Youth with Sexual Behavior Problems (YSBP) Program provides support to agencies that use a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to provide intervention and supervision services for youth with sexual behavior problems and treatment services for their child victims and families. Award recipients will target services for youth with sexual behavior problems, their child victim(s), and parents/caregivers of the offending youth and child victims. Youth participating in this program must undergo a mental health evaluation to determine if they are amenable to community-based treatment and intervention. Youth targeted for program services should have no prior history of court involvement for sexual offenses. This program solicitation includes 2 categories. Category 1 (program sites) will provide funding to as many as three sites for the purposes described above. Category 2 (support, training, and technical assistance) will fund one awardee to provide support and technical assistance to the program sites selected under Category 1. The successful applicants under Category 1 will develop and implement a comprehensive program for the target population over a 24-month period. OJJDP expects program sites to work closely with the training and technical assistance provider and include their community partners in the collaborative learning process that the training and technical assistance provider will establish. The goals of Category 2 of this solicitation are to develop, design, and deliver training and technical assistance that supports and guides the program sites as they implement their community-based management strategies for youth with sexual behavior problems and their victims and families.

    The American Psychological Association is accepting applications for its Elizabeth Munsterberg Koppitz Fellowship program, which is designed to nurture excellent young scholars for careers in areas of psychology, such as child-clinical, pediatric, school, educational and developmental psychopathology. Through the program, one-year grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded to support graduate research projects and scholarships in child psychology. To be eligible, applicants must have completed doctoral candidacy at the time of application (documentation required) and demonstrated research competence and area commitment. Evaluation of Policies for the Primary Prevention of Multiple Forms of Violence - 0 views

    NCIPC is seeking research proposals focused on rigorously evaluating previously or currently implemented federal, state, local, tribal or organizational policies for impacts on multiple forms of violence, including child abuse and neglect, youth violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence and/or suicide. The proposed research should evaluate the impact of a selected policy on reducing rates of at least two of these violence outcomes. The proposed research must focus on a policy that has not yet been rigorously evaluated. Applicants are encouraged to assess the impact of the policy on as many violence outcomes that is feasible as well as risk and protective factors that are common to multiple forms of violence. The proposed research will add to the limited evidence base regarding the impact of policies on preventing multiple forms of violence by rigorously evaluating federal, state, local, or organizational policy approaches.

    Emotional well-being has been defined as an overall positive state of one's emotions, life satisfaction, sense of meaning and purpose, and ability to pursue self-defined goals (Feller SC, Castillo EG, Greenberg JM, et al. Emotional well-being and public health: proposal for a model national initiative. Public Health Reports. 2018;133(2):136-141). Elements of emotional well-being include a sense of balance in emotion, thoughts, social relationships, and pursuits, or lack thereof. The relative importance of each construct will vary across subpopulations and developmental stages. Currently, fundamental consensus concerning the definition and components of emotional well-being, as well as what interventions promote emotional well-being, either as a mediator of health outcomes or as an end in itself, is lacking. In April 2018, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) and the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR), in collaboration with other NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices (National Institute on Aging (NIA), Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)), sponsored a roundtable discussion with the following goals: (1) to gain a deeper insight into the existing research on the role of emotional well-being in health; (2) to create a trans-NIH research program focused on developing, testing, and implementing intervention strategies to promote emotional well-being.

The overall goal of this grant program is to reduce the gap between the demand for organ transplants and the supply of organs from deceased donors by identifying successful strategies that can serve as model interventions to increase deceased organ donation registration or family consent. Accordingly, this program will support sound applied research efforts to test the effectiveness of strategies that target any of the three program objectives listed below.     The purpose of the APS is to publicize the United States Government's (USG) plan to fund one award through USAID/Washington's Office of Population and Reproductive Health (PRH) to support a broad range of social science and behavioral research and technical assistance on a focused set of family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) issues. The objective of the APS is described below. Funds may support activities that develop and test scalable interventions to achieve social and normative change for FP/RH outcomes; build on existing activities to test evidence-based practices/interventions in new settings; provide technical assistance for replication and scale up of successful interventions; and monitor and evaluate the impact and sustainability of scale up of evidence-based interventions, including evaluation of current or previous activities funded by USAID or other donors. The award under this APS will contribute to PRH's strategic objective of advancing and supporting FP/RH programs worldwide and health objectives of reducing unintended pregnancies, abortion, and improving maternal and child health. This APS will address two cross-cutting issues for PRH, gender and youth, which are also Agency-wide focal areas as highlighted in USAID's Youth in Development Policy and Gender Equality and Female Empowerment Policy.

    Eligible applicants are: 1) State and Territorial governments: Title V Agencies in states that have completed a Project LAUNCH grant, or will complete the grant by September 30, 2015. See Appendix II of the RFA for a listing of eligible applicants. 2) Federally recognized American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) tribes and tribal organizations that have completed a Project LAUNCH grant, or will complete the grant by September 30, 2015. See Appendix II of the RFA for a listing of eligible applicants. Tribal organization means the recognized body of any AI/AN tribe; any legally established organization of American Indians/Alaska Natives which is controlled, sanctioned, or chartered by such governing body or which is democratically elected by the adult members of the Indian community to be served by such organization and which includes the maximum participation of American Indians/Alaska Natives in all phases of its activities. Eligibility is limited to State Title V Agencies, in states who have completed or will complete a Project LAUNCH grant by the end of FY 2015, since these are the agencies that received the initial Project LAUNCH grants. Project LAUNCH Expansion grants will build on the knowledge, expertise and experience acquired in the first Project LAUNCH grant in order to take practices and systems changes to scale by expanding these practices to other communities within the state/tribe (or to additional tribes). The Project LAUNCH Expansion grants will provide states and tribes the opportunity for broader dissemination of these innovative practices and policies that will lead to better outcomes for young children and families. In addition, the Title V agency was the convener of the original LAUNCH Council, and will be well-positioned to continue the work of increasing cross-agency and public-private partnerships through the Expansion grant. State Title V agencies should partner with the lead children's mental health agency as this grant opportunity is focused

    The Collaborative Research on Addiction at the NIH (CRAN) - composed of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and - along with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), and the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) intend to jointly fund the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study Consortium using the cooperative agreement award mechanism.  The objective of the consortium is to establish a national, multisite, longitudinal cohort study to prospectively examine the neurodevelopmental and behavioral effects of substance use from early adolescence (approximately age 9-10) through the period of risk for substance use and substance use disorders.

In addition to planning and testing the feasibility of study designs, awardees will be expected to participate in 2-3 grantee meetings to share lessons learned and to begin to form collaborations needed to establish the network of sites that will conduct this study.
