To promote the use of collections housed at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Department of History and Geography is pleased to announce the Jamie Guilbeau and Thelma Guilbeau UL Lafayette Collections Research Grant in the amount of $2,000 for a researcher who is not a faculty member, staff member, or student at UL Lafayette. Applications should indicate promise of publication or reaching a broad audience in some other form and must require work in the collections of the University Archives and Acadiana Manuscripts Collections (http://library.louisiana.edu/Spec/policy_SAMC.shtml), the Ernest J. Gaines Center (http://library.louisiana.edu/Gaines/), the Cajun and Creole Music Collection (http://library.louisiana.edu/Spec/CCM/index.shtml), the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum (http://www.hilliardmuseum.org), the Center for Louisiana Studies (http://cls.louisiana.edu/Research-Division.shtml), or in other UL Lafayette collections. The grant is intended primarily to defray travel expenses, therefore preference will be given to researchers beyond commuting distance of UL Lafayette. Particular consideration will be given to applications that speak broadly to Louisiana and its history, heritage, cultures, and identities.

The Challenge America Fast-Track category offers support primarily to small and mid-sized organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations -- those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability. Age alone (e.g., youth, seniors) does not qualify a group as underserved; at least one of the underserved characteristics noted above also must be present. Grants are available for professional arts programming and for projects that emphasize the potential of the arts in community development. This category encourages and supports the following two outcomes: *Engagement: Engaging the public with diverse and excellent art. *Livability: The strengthening of communities through the arts. You will be asked to select the outcome that is most relevant to your project (you also will be able to select a secondary outcome). When making selections, you should identify the outcome(s) that reflect the results expected to be achieved by your project. If you receive a grant, you also will be asked to provide evidence of those results. Challenge America Fast-Track grants: *Extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations. *Are limited to the specific types of projects outlined below. *Are for a fixed amount of $10,000 and require a minimum $10,000 match. *Receive an expedited application review. Organizations are notified whether they have been recommended for a grant approximately six months after they apply; projects may start shortly thereafter.

The New Netherland Institute now offers an annual $1000 prize for the best published article relating to the Dutch colonial experience in the Atlantic world, with a special sensitivity to New Netherland or its legacy. A committee of scholars will consider entries in the fields of history, archaeology, literature, language, geography, biography, and the arts. Entries must be based upon original research. Articles must be written in English and be published for the first time no earlier than 2013. Chapters from a monograph, works of fiction, and encyclopedia entries will not be considered. Only one submission per author will be accepted. Both academic and independent scholars are invited to participate.

An organization that applies to the Challenge America category, may not submit another application to the Art Works category. - You may apply to other National Endowment for the Arts funding opportunities, including Our Town, in addition to Challenge America. In each case, the request must be for a distinctly different project or a distinctly different phase of the same project, with a different period of performance and costs. - The Arts Endowment's support of a project may start on or after January 1, 2020. Grants awarded under these guidelines generally may cover a period of performance of up to two years. An organization that has received Challenge America grants in FY 2017, 2018, and 2019 may not apply for a Challenge America grant under these FY 2020 guidelines. That organization may apply for FY 2020 support under other National Endowment for the Arts funding opportunities including Art Works. Through the program, grants of up to $300,000 will be awarded to support the planning and implementation of cultural projects designed to improve relationships between Muslim and non-Muslims across the country. Organizations funded to date represent significant diversity in terms of geography, population, discipline, and mission. Through systematic self-evaluations conducted by prior grantees, the program has observed that strong relationships are built most effectively when audiences are able to immerse themselves in experiential learning and directly interact, collaborate, or communicate with the creative community who design and lead project-related activities.

To advance this mission, the Cincinnati-based organization is accepting applications for the fall cycle of its Catalyzing Impact Grant Program, which aims to encourage a breadth of programming through arts and cultural heritage projects that support the goals of its Blueprint for Collective Action. Through the program, grants of up to $15,000 (or 50 percent of total project expenses) will be awarded in support of new or existing projects that demonstrate impact in a new or expanded geography (e.g., neighborhood, municipality, or county); serve a new or expanded audience (e.g., age or culturally specific); or deepen impact within an existing project (e.g., expanded themes, content, or timeframe).

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is the lead Federal agency managing the U.S. Antarctic Program (USAP), which supports scientific research and education in the Antarctic and the Southern Ocean. The Antarctic Artists and Writers Program was established to facilitate writing and artistic projects designed to increase the public's understanding and appreciation of the Antarctic and human endeavors on the southernmost continent. The Artist and Writers Program gives priority to projects that focus on interpreting and representing the scientific activities being conducted in the unique Antarctic region. Proposed projects must target audiences in the U.S. and be distributed/exhibited in the U.S. The program does not support site installations or performances in Antarctica. The program also does not support short-term projects that are essentially journalistic in nature (See Section IX. Other Information). Artists and Writers Program field teams should consist of no more than one or two people. Larger projects-such as television or documentary film crews-should contact the cognizant AAW Program Officer.
