A. Noam Chomsky Global Connections Awards celebrate the power of human connections. The awards recognize distinguished service to the global mission of the STAR Scholars Network. Several individuals with a deep impact on advancing global, social mobility are recognized every year. We live in a time when innovation and creativity in support of humanity are of great importance. The Star Scholars Network recognizes the commitment of concerned people able and willing to make a difference in the lives of others. Nominations for this award are solicited from around the world. The nominee can be from any field. Beginning in 2020, the Star Scholars Network is committed to promoting transnational research, or collaborative research between scholars of two or more countries (e.g., joint publications, research partnerships, etc.). The Global Connections Awards recognize STAR Scholars for their achievements and distinctive contributions to translational research that demonstrates the very best of scholarly collaboration among scholars around the world. In December 2020, the Star Scholars Network will provide awards in three categories: North Star Medal of Lifetime Achievement, Shining Star Achievement in Research Award, Rising Star Emerging Scholar Certificate

The Global Connections program was designed by TCG and is funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. US-based theatre organizations and individual artists may apply to one of the two initiatives of this new program: Global Connections-On the Road: This initiative will award 10 grants of up to $5,000 each to foster new relationships with international colleagues that will inspire each other's work and aesthetics by creating opportunities for cultural exchange. Global Connections-In the Lab: This initiative will award six grants of $10,000 each to further pre-existing international collaborations by supporting residencies that either advance the development of a piece or explore elements leading up to a full production.

The United States Department of State, Embassy in Brasília - Brazil, announces a notification of funding opportunity (NOFO) to support the development and implementation of a program to support the participation of American artists at cultural festivals and other special events in Sao Paulo's consular district with up to US$40,000 in FY2018 for a project period not to exceed two years. The preliminary start date for this activity is October 15, 2018, and one award is anticipated as a result of this NOFO. However, should both parties consider the results of this exchange to be positive - and also subject to availability of funds - we may agree to renew this NOFO for up to two additional years. We are seeking proposals for the development and implementation of a program to support the participation of American artists at cultural festivals and other special events in Sao Paulo's consular district, which comprises the states of Sao Paulo, Parana, Mato Grosso do Sul. By ensuring American representation at cultural events and artistic performances, the program contributes to engage local audiences in understanding U.S. values, as well as to and generate and expand connections between American and Brazilian institutions and individuals.

The Audience Engagement Grant supports photographers to take an existing body of work on a social justice or human rights issue and devise an innovative and effective way of using that work as a tool for social change. We are looking for projects that serve as interventions on pressing problems and provide concrete ways for photographers, organizations, and their target audiences to create a positive impact. We are interested in well-designed projects that: inspire audiences visually and create meaningful interactions with photographic content utilize photography as the basis for programming or tools that move people beyond the act of looking and directly involve them in activities or processes that lead to concrete forms of social change provide deeper, more nuanced understanding of human rights and social justice issues pairs photographers with organizations that are currently working on related issues and connected to the target audience

Each year the Flaherty offers fellowships to graduate students and emerging and mid-career filmmakers and media professionals. The fellowship program is led by an academic who has attended previous Flaherty Seminars and is designed to further your knowledge of cinema through participation in an array of unique activities. Besides interacting with the group at large, Flaherty fellows take part in private meetings and discussions with the featured artists and other special guests in attendance, including programmers, writers, and academics and participate in a mentorship program. The program is rigorous and rewarding; Fellows arrive on campus a day before the Seminar begins to learn about the history of the Seminar, discuss pre-assigned readings relating to the theme, and watch and discuss each other's films, by way of an informal Fellows' film screening. Fellows will be able to return home with creative inspiration, experiences and connections, which will aid them in furthering their own careers and artistic endeavors.

Yale University Press, in partnership with the Terra Foundation for American Art, is offering a new prize for an unpublished manuscript or previously published manuscript in a language other than English written by a non-U.S. author. The manuscript should make a significant contribution to scholarship on the historical visual arts of what is now the geographic United States.   In helping to overcome the language barrier that often divides scholars and deters international research and collaboration, the prize aims to advance and internationalize scholarship on American art and seeks to recognize original and thorough research, sound methodology, and significance in the field. The award is especially intended to encourage authors who take the field of American art history into new historical and interpretive terrain, or who establish connections among the work of scholars within and outside the United States, providing a model of international exchange important to sustaining relevance and academic rigor for the future of the field.

Founded in 1981, the Ucross Foundation in Sheridan, Wyoming, provides uninterrupted time, work space, and living accommodations to competitively selected visual artists, writers, and composers from all over the world. The foundation currently is accepting applications for its 2019 Fall Residency program, which runs from August to December. Residencies vary in length from two weeks to six weeks. At any one time, there are up to nine individuals in residence - a mix of visual artists, writers, and composers.  In most cases, studios are separate from living quarters. Lunch and dinners are prepared Monday to Friday by a professional chef with ample provisions on hand for breakfasts and weekends. In addition, there is cell phone service on the property and several wireless Internet connection sites are available for resident use. Residents are responsible for providing their own working materials and for their travel to Sheridan. While there is a $40 nonrefundable application fee, there is no charge for a residency. Artists, writers, and composers from around the United States and the world, in any stage of their professional career, are invited to apply to work on an individual or collaborative project. OPERA America's Innovation Grants support the implementation of innovative projects in opera's most important areas of practice, including artistic vitality, audience experience, organizational effectiveness, and community connections. The program enables companies to increase their investment in experimentation and innovation and contribute to field-wide learning. Grants are intended to support projects that (a) represent  an effort new to the field; (b) adaptations or applications of strategies that have been implemented elsewhere but are new to the applicant company or its community; and (c) refinements or enhancements to proven organizational strategies that merit continued development. OPERA America will assist with evaluation and documentation and help disseminate lessons learned from the projects.

The Center for Craft, Creativity, & Design Artist Fellowship is one of four hubs that make up the Craft Research Fund, which was created to encourage, expand, and support scholarly craft research in the United States To advance this mission, the center is inviting applications for its Artist Fellows program. Through the program, two grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded to advance, expand, and support the creation of new research and knowledge through craft practice. Proposals are welcome from mid-career artists, artisans, designers, makers, sculptors, and others who identify their practice within the field of craft. The center, and by extension this grant, recognizes craft to be a particular approach to making with a strong connection to materials, skill, and process. Examples of craft research identified by the center include but are not limited to archive and museum-based research; material innovations and experimentation; process-oriented research/innovation; historical research; collaborations among artists and/or with other disciplines and/or institutions; and other projects that have the potential to transform questions that are being asked in an academic context. To be eligible, applicants must be 21 or older, eligible to receive taxable income in the United States, and have been living and working in the U.S. for the last two years and for the duration of the fellowship period. With the help of tens of thousands of donors, ArtsWave supports the work of more than a hundred arts organizations making an impact in the greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky metro region. To advance this mission, ArtsWave is accepting applications to its Neighborhood Arts and Festivals Grant Program, which supports recurring neighborhood-based arts events that increase the variety and frequency of arts experiences in neighborhoods throughout the region and create an environment where all members of the neighborhood feel welcome. The program provides funding for recurring neighborhood-based arts or cultural heritage events. Neighborhoods are defined as places that people feel related to and where they have relationships with each other. Recurring events are defined as a specific, connected set of planned activities that are held on a regular or semi-regular basis. Recurring events with multiple components must show that there is a cohesive theme that ties the components together.

With the help of tens of thousands of donors, ArtsWave supports the work of more than a hundred arts organizations making an impact in the greater Cincinnati/northern Kentucky metro region. As part of that mission, ArtsWave is accepting application for its Catalyzing Impact Grant Program, which encourages arts and cultural heritage projects that support the goals of the organization's Blueprint for Collective Action. Introduced in 2015, the blueprint aims to leverage the power of the arts to help build a vibrant economy and more connected community in the greater Cincinnati/northern Kentucky metro region. To that end, it sets out five goals for the arts sector that build on the sector's resources and address the broader needs of the region. ArtsWave believes the arts can help put Cincinnati on the map; help bridge cultural divides; enliven neighborhoods; and fuel creativity and learning. Grants of up to $15,000 will be awarded for one-time or first-time arts or cultural heritage projects that support one of the goals of the Blueprint for Collective Action. The grant program requires a one-to-one match by the applicant. Up to 25 percent of matching dollars can come from in-kind contributions.

Administered by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, the USArtists International program supports performances by American artists at important cultural festivals and arts marketplaces around the globe. USAI encourages and promotes the vibrant diversity of American artists and creative expression in the performing arts by expanding opportunity and exposure to international audiences, encouraging international cultural exchange, and enhancing the creative and professional development of U.S. based artists by providing connections with presenters, curators, and artists around the world. Grants of up to $15,000 will be awarded to American dance, music, and theater ensembles and solo performers that have been invited to perform at international festivals and/or for performance engagements that represent extraordinary career opportunities anywhere in the world outside the U.S.

Art works by enhancing the value of individuals and communities, by connecting us to each other and to something greater than ourselves, and by empowering creativity and innovation in our society and economy. The arts exist for beauty itself, but they also are an inexhaustible source of meaning and inspiration.
