The Graduate Research Fellowship in the Social and Behavioral Sciences track is open to doctoral students in all social and behavioral science disciplines. The Physical Anthropology Program supports basic research in areas related to human evolution and contemporary human biological variation. Research areas supported by the program include, but are not limited to, human genetic variation, human adaptation, human osteology and bone biology, human and nonhuman primate paleontology, functional anatomy, and primate socioecology. Grants supported in these areas are united by an underlying evolutionary framework, and often a consideration of adaptation as a central theoretical theme. Many proposals also have a biocultural orientation. To implement that policy in ways appropriate to Physical Anthropology and Archaeology, beginning July 1, 2005 these Programs will require that all proposals include a one-page detailed description of the applicant's data access plan in the "Supplementary Documents" section. This page will be in addition to the standard 15-page project description. Applications lacking this statement will not be reviewed. The Programs realize that individual cases may differ widely and recognize that any absolute timeline or rigid set of rule

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages applications to study the ethical, legal and societal issues (ELSI) of human genome research in African populations.  Of particular interest are projects that propose focused bioethical, legal, and social science analyses of new or emerging issues. 

The DHC Visiting Fellow program is generally a sabbatical/leave-based position as there is no large stipend associated with this position. However, apart from the mutual benefits of being engaged with our vibrant local intellectual community in the heart of Lincoln Park in Chicago, Visiting Fellows will be given an office in the Center (with computer), staff support, library privileges, and an honorarium of up to $1,000 per quarter to support the public presentation of Fellows' work (with at least one public lecture supported and expected of all Visiting Fellows) and for participation in other DHC programming.

The BLM is interested in partnering with a recipient to expand collections facilities and complete tasks necessary with DOI regulations and standards of best practice to become a federal repository for archaeological material.

Because the National Science Foundation's mandate is to support basic research, the NSF Cultural Anthropology Program does not fund research that takes as its primary goal improved clinical practice or applied policy. A proposal that uses anthropological methods to understand a social problem but does not propose to make a theory-testing and/or theory expanding contribution to anthropology will be returned without review.

The Society for Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology (SLACA), a section of the American Anthropological Association, announces the opening of its annual book prize competition. The prize aims to recognize distinguished anthropological work that advances the understanding of the Americas in innovative and potentially transformative ways. The winner is announced at the annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association. A cash prize accompanies the award.

The Archaeology Program supports anthropologically relevant archaeological research. This means that the value of the proposed research can be justified within an anthropological context. The Program sets no priorities by either geographic region or time period. It also has no priorities in regard to theoretical orientation or question and it is the responsibility of the applicant to explain convincingly why these are significant and have the potential to contribute to anthropological knowledge. While the Program, in order to encourage innovative research, neither limits nor defines specific categories of research type, most applications either request funds for field research and/or the analysis of archaeological material through multiple approaches. The Program also supports methodological projects which develop analytic techniques of potential archaeological value.

This Annual Program Statement solicits proposals for projects that further the Public Affairs Section's public diplomacy goals of expanding media engagement, strengthening people-to-people ties between Pakistan and the United States, and building and strengthening local partners, through the specific priority program objectives listed in the solicitation. Grant budgets will vary between $10,000 and $50,000, with a project duration of up to one year. Grant activities shall take place only in the following Administrative Divisions of Punjab Province: Lahore, Faisalabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Multan, Sargodha, and Gujranwal.

Whether a REG or REU supplement request, the student's research should be his/her own research project; supplements are not intended to support clerical or research assistants to the PI. Supplements are also not intended to support language training except in the context of a research project. REG supplements are not intended to support dissertation fieldwork, nor will they be granted to support preliminary dissertation site visits in the absence of an independent research project. This NIH Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), supported by funds from the NIH Common Fund (Common Fund) and participating NIH Institute(s) and Center(s), invites applications from foreign Institutions in African countries.  The purpose of this FOA is to call for applications for investigator-initiated H3Africa Research Projects.  An H3Africa Research Project is a discrete, specified, circumscribed research project, conducted by a single investigator or multiple investigators, that employs state-of-the-art genomics approaches and relates to the study of genetic and/or environmental contributors to specific health condition(s) or disease(s) relevant to African populations.  

This NIH Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), supported by funds from the NIH Common Fund (Common Fund) and participating NIH Institute(s) and Center(s), invites applications from foreign Institutions in African countries to submit applications for H3Africa Collaborative Centers.  These awards will support 3-5 collaborating research projects at three or more African institutions working together as a partnership to accomplish more than each project could accomplish on its own.  An H3Africa Collaborative Center should employ state of the art genomics approaches to study genetic and environmental contributors to specific health condition(s) or disease(s) relevant to African populations.

The purpose of this FOA is to both expand existing, as well as  develop novel, capabilities for capacity building and implementation related to genomic research on the African continent by providing support for an Informatics Network for the Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3Africa) Consortium.

The purpose of this FOA is to solicit applications from foreign institutions in African countries to provide an Administrative Coordinating Center for the H3Africa Consortium.  H3Africa research projects employ state of the art genomics approaches to study genetic and environmental contributors to specific health condition(s) or disease(s) relevant to African populations. The H3Africa Administrative Coordinating Center will provide the organizational framework for the management, direction, and overall coordination of all common H3Africa activities (i.e. Consortium activities).
